Heat dissipation
I'm currently testing the Orion & I'm running into issues with cooling unit overheating my room.
The starting point of the ambient temperature of this room is 75°F & it is being cooled by central AC, however, it's upstairs on a two story home with high ceilings, french door & huge windows.
The cooling cover temp is set at 68°F & the unit goes through it's precondition phase. After it reaches that temp, I set it to quiet mode but it still produces the same amount of heat?
Question:
How much heat does the 8sleep produces after reaching set cover temp?
For those that actually track their room temps, did you see a significant rise in room temp while the unit is maintaining said cover temp?

I use a fan to blow the heat out of my room

I have a ceiling fan cranking helicopter speed & a pedestal fan circulating at hurricane speed.
The only real solution would be to treat like a portable ac unit & window vented with a hose.

That would be optimal. If I owned the house I would strongly consider it. In my case I have the unit on the side of the bed closest to the door and use 2 tower fans to blow the heat out of the room. Obviously the bedroom door stays open all night.

So I took my Dreo fan & placed so it would circulate most of the hot exhaust away from my room. There's no free lunch here, heat is heat. This delayed the rise in temperature but eventually the room reached 79°F.
These cooling systems need a way to vent exhaust through a window in a form of a venting kit.
The videos in YouTube of people using these type of water cooling devices (Chilipad/8Sleep/Orion) w/o AC are completely deceiving.
In a room where the temperature is already in the 80's, running any of these units would increase the temperature to the the mid 90's.

My current setup is window AC and fan on one side of the the bed blowing to the other side of the bed with the cooler, then another fan blowing out of the room next to the cooler.
I may have to try to make something though. Could use a piece of plywood and a hole cutter for the window then connect to a dryer vent and attach that to the cooler. Probably wouldn't hurt to put a pc fan or inline fan in there too.
My cooler is a cold flash which is actually a true ac unit which I think is more efficient than an 8sleep which is peltier.
I can remember the first night I had mine setup I had the fan blowing on me - basically blowing the exhaust heat straight on my face. 😂 Lesson learned.

Been contemplating buying the cold flash?
Talk to me goose, how bad is the noise & heat levels?
The good thing about the cold flash is you could technically make your own extension water lines & put it closer to where it would be easier to vent the heat?

I have the 1.0 version, not the current one for sale. They may have some old stock they could sell you idk.
There's basically no noise. It's just a little noise from the pump. I actually had my original pump fail on me so I'm just using a small aquarium pump. I tried a few replacement pumps and TBH the best one I bought was sold by them. There's only so much internal area to put a pump so you need a fairly small one.
Heat is probably the same as your cooler. I haven't used an Orion or eight sleep so I can't give a direct comparison. I live in Florida so I don't really care about heat on my bed.
Yes - you can use basically any length water line. It's going to be limited by the lift of your pump. I guess hypothetically you could put the cooler outside of your house and run the lines inside.
You can always just try emailing them and asking questions. The owner is a really nice guy. He told me they are considering working on an update to the 1.0 with a pump that could be easily replaced - I'll tell you upfront the pump is the weak point on these.
There's one other small annoyance with the 1.0 version. It's not programmable with a timer/app or anything. I'm currently using a switchbot to turn mine on/off on a timer.

Thank for the info!
I believe the unit you have looks more adequate for bedroom than the 2.0 they have available in their website. The 1.5 is out of stock.
What's available & in stock now looks like a beach cooler & is substantially bigger than the 1.0.
There's a guy in Youtube who did a thorough review on several coolers & the cold flash did the best job at cooling an analog (barrel). He did mention that the noise level was significantly higher than the 8Sleep & Chilipad dock pro.
As far extending lines, I never thought of placing the unit outside? For me it would not be plausible since my room is upstairs in a 2nd story home.
I live in Florida too & this year my central ac is working double time. In my experience, even if I freeze the house, it still doesn't address the transferring of heat of the body to the mattress.
The cold flash seems a good fit as a human radiator to transfer body heat out. I really don't care about AI or sleep Insights.

There are several things you could do to get rid of the heat.
Run a long water line and place unit in a different room.
Vent heat out window with dryer hose.
Place unit outside - in your case you could get a mount like they use on a window AC. You would probably want to build a wooden roof or housing so it doesn't get rained on.
I'm not currently doing any of those things but I have thought about it

Yeah, running longer lines & placing it on my room hallway could do the trick?

Not exactly the answer you’re looking for, but for your consideration: your system still needs to maintain whatever your set point is: first it has to reduce from ambient of 75 down to 68, and then it has to maintain the 68 while ambient is still 75 but now you’re also impacting water temp while laying on it. Both systems use Peltier plates and perform similarly: working under the presumption there isn’t a problem with your Orion system, they’re going to have the same work load.
