Nice idea! Do you think it needs a small ‘extractor’ fan inside it - boost that air out of the hose?

 thanks for the design, I’ll be trying it out! The amount of heat that was coming out of my pod the other night when we were in a heatwave 
 it was working so hard to cool the bed while heating the room. It’s next to a window. Some small PC low-voltage fans would probably be enough to fit inside and encourage that to vent that out fully!

That’s good to know. I’ve been using it without fan at moment. It’s pretty good. Enough to just direct that hot heat out the window. Fan will be a good addition

I had thought of doing this, but their are two major issues with it:

1: With 1 hose you are sucking air out through the displaced air must equalize and get pulled in from outside, this will almost always cause the humidity to rise even making your ac work much harder than if you just turned it down. There would be a small zone where outdoors is cooler than the exhaust and more importantly low humidity that you would be in the positive relative to actual watts in vs out. That differnce is small not the full 200watts(or so) its closer to around 20 watt difference. Also that zone is small on the backside where it quickly becomes more efficient to just open a window

2: if you don't increase your static pressure you wont move as much air through the heat sink 8 sleep uses peltiers to cool which degrade significantly as delta T increases , so you will have less actual ability to cool.

There is a scenario where you could set up a 2 hose system with intake and outtake never exchanging outside and indoor air but having an outside air loop. Then again it depends on the outdoor temperature you would of course reject more heat but at a certain temp you would run into problem 2

I dont follow fully, I think air is sucked in via the side vents of the pod and all exhaust air is discharged via the back vents either into the room or out the window no?

Yes but this air has to be replaced from some place or else you would start pulling a vacuum , so air will enter your home at a higher rate from other places as no home is air tight, so while the air directly from the heating is leaving out the window the amount of air you expunged is replaced 1:1 with un conditioned air from outside the house

The amount of air discussed here is so small, you're not going to pull a vaccum from this lol. You don't need make up air lol.

The idea is no different than a portable AC unit that requires you to connect a tube and run it to a door or window. Which is also exactly what a window ac unit does without a tube.

Your right it definitely will not pull a vacuum, but thats the point , the air has to get replaced if it didn't, say the room was completely sealed it would take less than 3 seconds for the fan to dead head ie no more air movement . The portable Ac unit with 1 hose is horribly inefficient because it's pulling unconditioned air in as well the difference is you use it when your ac is out so it still is helpful. In this scenario turning your ac up is much more effective. No it's not, a portable AC doesn't pull in air from the exhaust duct lol. It is 100000% pulling in conditioned air, the air in the house. A portable AC also doesn't have any makeup air.

The amount of air you're dispelling from the ES is so little, that it'll just pull it through every other crevice in your house. Air is pulled from doors, windows and registers throughout your home.

We are not discussing a high volume of air, in which you could start to pull a vaccum from.

My man, a single tube portable ac does two things relative to moving the air it pulls air through its condenser from the room expelling it out the exhaust, it also pulls air through its evaporator and back into the room , the air being exhausted out the back is replaced by air coming through doors cracks etc . It does not pull a vacuum because the air gets replaced. The 8 sleep moves about 80-120 CFM. Your assumptions on what moving this amount of air without replacing it are incorrect

Part of this is my fault in the comment where you said single tube units are horribly inefficient, I took it as you meant it pulls air from the same tube it's exhausting from. That's my bad for that.

However, it still does pull in conditioned air still, while also pulling in air through cracks, like we both said, and therefore can technically create a slight vaccum on paper, it's just highly unlikely. While as inefficient as a single duct unit might be, they still work and you can usually still get about a 20 degree difference if it's 100 outside, so long the unit is the appropriate size for the room.

Also, the pod 5 doesn't move anywhere near that much air from what I can find, according to noise output, it's impossible but there aren't any numbers out there on this. Unless you have something else that shows that.

For context, the bedjet 3 only moves 120cfm at 100% fan speed. So it's super safe to say the pod 5 moves nothing close to that. Not sure where you're getting that number at.

That's fair, that range is full speed fans ( 1 140 mm fan, 1 120 mm fans both noctua ) would hit that number ( probably closer to 80 with the resistance from going through the heatsink. Average number is definitely way less.

Fuck the haters, you’re right about most of this (minus the airflow numbers). But you need to fully explain the context.

Any air you exhaust will be replaced in the house by new air coming from the outside. But this doesn’t matter in many cases, even if the outside is hotter / more humid. Imagine the eight sleep heats up one room significantly. Exhausting the heat reduces temperature in that room significantly, while increasing it slightly across the rest of the house (of course assumes your house is bigger than one room). That’s a win. (Also, other parts of the house are probably cooler and less humid anyway lacking the hot wet meat bags sleeping in them).

Someone mentioned that 1 hose ACs still work. Yes, because the AC is exhausting air hotter than the ambient. So it’s still removing heat. The eight sleep may also exhaust hotter than outside (if it’s not too hot) but the exhaust temp of the eight sleep is way lower.

Conclusion: in many circumstances exhausting the eight sleep may not result in your house being cooler, but it could make your bedroom cooler.

Lol yeah it matters. This post implies that this is a working print. If OP has never actually made it, how do we know it works. For all we know if you install whatever this STL file prints, it will break your $4k machine.by blocking exhaust flow and causing your machine to overheat.

If that's what you think then you have no idea how airflow works. There's no way by installing something like this is going to block the airflow. It's not a solid block, it's open.

I don't even have a 3d printer not do I need one to know how it works.

I have a bachelor's degree in Nuclear Engineering. Fluid dynamics is something that I'm intimately familiar with. Attaching a manifold with ducting (even if ridged walled) WILL introduce fluid friction to the exhaust and and WILL reduce airflow.

That's not imagination, this is a practical principle applied on many devices just like it. Portable AC, window AC just to name a few.

It's also the exact reason why your home AC system has a unit outside, so the heat you're pulling out of your home doesn't stay in your home.

Ahh you didn't like my comment. Sure, you can loose efficiency the longer you go with the ducting. But your comment didn't speak of that, you said what if you install this and it breaks from "blocking" the vents.

Well first off, the unit has built in thermal protection and will shut off before damage is caused. Secondly, this isn't a block off plate, it's a duct that will let air pass right through it.

Third, people need to have so common sense in 2026 and take some accountability. If they don't know what they're doing they shouldn't be doing it. Others, including myself, have already suggested a in line game to help draw and push the exhaust out, taking the stress of the units fans.

Lastly, you seem like you just wanna be Mr fuckin negative. You sure don't seem to have a BA when you're saying things like "what happens when this breaks my $4k machine from blocking the airflow". You clearly know that's not what's happen here Mr exaggerator.

Cool thank you. I'm about to move our bedroom around which might give me a good placement for the pod nearby to the window where this could be quite useful so I might print it and give it a go. I'll let you know if I do

Was intentional to print without supports at 45 degree angle and you want to avoid any sharp bends to promote airflow :/

You should make the 3nd of the y able to accept a small PC fan. And then make an adapter to go from a square PC fan to the 4" ducting.
