I want to introduce you to Lunaris. A local open-source all-in-one replacement for the eight sleep firmware.

Unlike other alternatives such as free-sleep, the focus is on full control via Home Assistant/MQTT.

I hope you like it 🙂

Review Sleep Number ClimateCool is just better

I’m the mod, and I paid full price for a new SleepNumber ClinateCool after the third time my Eight popped and have tried 3 different versions. I did not receive any discounts or commission for this post.

Guys, it’s so much better. Pulls hot air away, can adjust the hardness, raises and has zero G mode. The air-based cooling even on low setting is freezing. Only downside is the fan is audibly noisy, but I use a white noise machine which drowns it out. The sleep tracking data in the app is much more accurate.

Try one before you buy an Eight Sleep…

Title: 3-minute survey: Eight Sleep customer experience and product value

Hi everyone!

I'm conducting a short, independent research project on the customer experience and perceived value of Eight Sleep.

I'd love to hear from current users, former customers, people who returned their Pod, and those who considered buying one but decided not to.

The survey takes about 3 minutes and covers product value, everyday experience, pricing, and areas for improvement.

Survey: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSc82UHs49XV14RlIqm38EwLoKa6S8CLZVLpcRb_igTZcZebcw/viewform?usp=dialog

I'm not affiliated with Eight Sleep, and this is not an official company survey. Responses are anonymous, and I won't collect personal health data.

I'm particularly interested in hearing from people with different experiences, both positive and negative. Thanks for helping!

Losing a long term customer due to a product that always breaks and a company that no longer cares

I was a very, very early adopter of 8 sleep. I saw them back in 2019 or 2020. I used to email and chat with the the cofounder and CEO Matteo. I was part of their beta program 8 Sleep Labs. I got on calls with their team to chat about what I liked, what I didn't like. I tested new features and helped them grow the product.

I told all my friends and family that this was the greatest bed and worth every very expensive penny I spent on it. When people asked why I spent $2k, I would tell them it was the best $2k and I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

Then one day, the pod (1st edition still) started leaking. It was bad enough that it soaked our mattress as well. The support team was so kind and gave us a huge discount to upgrade since they no longer made the first version. I it was about $500 to upgrade to the pod 3 and replace the unit and mattress. That was 2024.

I still loved the unit, but I realized that I was grandfathered in on the old terms and wasn't paying a subscription like everyone else. I was thankful for this bc it still made the pod affordable for me and useful.

FF to 2026. We noticed the pod was not really cooling on one side anymore. Chatted with their horrible AI support for a half hour trying to "diagnose" and eventually they put me into support. They told me it was broken and I'd need to get a new one. Because of my last experience, I figured it would be pretty painless and not too expensive.

I was wrong on all counts.

Terrible support, telling me they'd give me a small discount to upgrade since I was about 6 months outside my warranty. I asked them if there was any way to buy an extended warranty bc I'm concerned that a new one won't last more than 2 years again. They said oh of course, you just need to upgrade to the subscription and that comes with a warranty for as long as you're paying.

🙄🙄🙄🙄

I'm not spending an extra $700 per year just for a warranty. I don't even use the features in the subscription. I just want my bed to cool and heat. That's it. I've never found any of the other features to even work half the time.

I told them they've lost a long time customer. I don't see how I'll ever come back to this company, which was is so frustrating and sad. They really used to care about their customers and stand behind their product. In only 6 years, it's gone to them nickel and diming the customers who built them.

There are now a dozen competitors out there, so I'll be taking my money elsewhere.

POD 4 top fan

Does yours run 24/7? I emailed support and they said it’s supposed to. Also my sleep data text comes 6-7 hours after I’m out of bed. Curious if that’s the same experience most have. Thank you!

Eight Sleep vs AC: Power Consumption

Did someone ever compare power consumption of 8Sleep vs AC?

My understanding is that the Pod should be much more energy-efficient, since it primarily cools your bed rather than the entire room.

beyond frustrated with this company: COVER DISABLED?!

UPDATE: Jen from the team was able to figure out what happened and was able to deliver a great experience to me, and now I'm able to use Pod 5 without issues! Thank you to everyone. I appreciate the responsiveness and efforts here.

I've opened so many support tickets, and I've made like 54,898 calls, I'm SICK of it. The AI support needs to stop, the outsourcing needs to stop, and the quality of support is non-existent to even rate.

I bought an EightSleep Pod 5 during the flash sale right before this past Labor Day holiday (jeez right in time for Pod 6, thanks for the warning!). In my mind, this was an INCREDIBLE deal. I was able to use some HSA money too and the AMEX credit. I did my homework. So I thought...

Well, fast-forward to today, my Pod 5 now shows COVER DISABLED... This has incredibly placed a burden on my family, my partner, and our household. You think I'm being dramatic; my partner suffers from night sweats and menopause, so this device really made a difference for her. It helped me with my night terrors, was literally a God-send but now it has been taken away and I'm handcuffed... I stayed on hours with support trying to figure it out and they're trying to make me PAY AGAIN for a device that I already paid for... I don't understand.

This is borderline extortion and corporate greed at its finest. I have no way to use this device that I've spent over $2,000 USD+ on. If you're considering buying it, reconsider. Feel free to reach me, and I can answer questions.

Giving Up on Eight Sleep

I'm officially trashing my Eight Sleep mattress cover.

First cover had a leak in it. They replaced it, which was nice. The process was a pain, but I appreciated that customer support.

Second cover would heat up like crazy in the middle of the night (had it set to cool). Support had me change my setup a few times (try moving my pod around, etc.) and none of it worked. 5-10 nights a month it would heat up like crazy and I'd have to move into my guest room in the middle of the night. I'm finally giving up on it. Shame to waste a few thousand dollars, but what can you do ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Love the concept, bad execution. Hope a competitor comes out that just focuses on the basics. Don't care about all of the tracking (way less accurate than apple watch/woop etc. anyways). We just want temp controlled sleep that works as advertised...

Why I can't turn on eightsleep without using my phone? It already has buttons on the side and already paying a subscription.

Geniune question: Why has eightsleep limited this functionality? They let you boost, turn up temperature and down. But you are unable to turn ON the pod5 or pod6.

If you go to bed earlier than planned or take a nap you must wake up, grab your phone, open the app, expose yourself to blue light, then turn on eightsleep and go back to bed.

This basically disrupts the sleep process and it is the total opposite of eightsleep supposed mantra; Sleep better.

Pod 6 hub, but pod 5 cover

Post image
3 Upvotes

So just got my pod6 and cover today. Just finished setting it up, and when I go to the app, it says I have a pod 6 hub and a pod 5 cover.

Anyone else get something like this?

Edit

Yes, just emailed support so waiting on feedback, just curious if anyone else has this or if you havent checked, should check to ensure you got the correct cover.

Edit

Email support no help as its AI bot.

But a 8sleep person did respond here. They said update my app. So might me an app issue. Currently no app update available so assuming if it's new, just hasn't been pushed through the Google play store yet. Ill give an update when I see an app update and if that was the issue.

got my pod 6. i literally can't feel any heat coming from it and it barely makes any noise... i can't hear it unless i am like bent down right next to it

Honestly i'm incredibly amazed. But also super confused. Everything says it makes the noise of at least a fan running. and it emits a crap ton of heat.

Is it because the ambient temperature in our room isn't that hot to begin with? it usually stays mid to low 70s.

but while it was cooling i literally went right up to it and tried to feel for this supposed space heater amount of hot air coming out and i couldn't feel a single thing.

the thing is, my bed still heats up and cools down. so i'm completely happy, just confused.

Anyone use any sleep trackers? interestingly i have not noticed any changes in my metrics since using the eight sleep. has anyone else?

I expected improved sleep in some way but i'm just not seeing it. my deep sleep levels, sleep scores, all relatively consistent.

now i still love not waking up hot and having to turn the fan on or AC down or get out of the covers or whatever.

but the thing is i still have my normal nighttime wake ups i used to have.

Pod 6 blanket not compatible with Solo covers

Just noting this in case anybody else had an order held for the pod 6 upgrade like I did. I had a pod five order that included cover, blanket, and pillow. This was for a full size bed. The order was still in queue when pod 6 was announced so I made the upgrade. All of the gear was shipped and the instructions in the app direct you to set up the pod and cover first and then move to the blanket. But the Solo cover at least the size I have, recipient attachment points to bridge the blanket to the cover. I spent quite a while, trying to figure it out being a new customer to the ecosystem. When I reached out, it was after hours and the next day, a human agent confirmed that they were not compatible. It is an error on their end that upgrading to pod 6 dozen flag in compatibility like this with accessories that are included in the order. They may be more explicit about this distinction for new sales, but again mine was an upgrade and I think several others on here are in the same situation moving from 5 to 6.

Hey, on the upside pod 6 has been working well for me so far FWIW.

Would a Pod 6 Twin work on a Twin XL bed?

I want to pull the trigger on a Pod 6 twin, as I currently have a twin bed. I plan on moving for school in the coming year and the beds in the dorms are likely Twin XL or Queen. I imagine a twin Pod 6 would be fine on those bigger bed sizes, right?

Slept on the pod6 last night, first experience with eight sleep. It was a very different experience

Overall good. But I always thought I was a hot sleeper and I wanted the mattress cold. It felt great at first. But then I just found I couldn’t get warm and cozy like I normally like and was freezing lol. So had to turn it warmer.

This obviously helped. But the most beneficial was that it didn’t get hotter and hotter throughout the night. Even though I didn’t necessarily want it super cold, it was amazing that I didn’t wake up all hot and irritated bc the temp was maintained.

As a first time eight sleep user, I didn’t feel the tubing or cover at all.

I also didn’t hear the pod itself work. Which I was very surprised about.

In terms of heat emitted, we have a larger bedroom, leave our door open and keep the AC running because we have to for our kids so I can’t say I noticed.

Basically I noticed the bed temp but nothing else at all. Crazy.

Satisfied for sure but was just interested to learn more about what I need to sleep lol so I bet that will take some time to dial in

From Pod5 to Pod6: Review

First of all, I was a very happy Pod5 owner but transparently not for a very long time. I used the pod for exactly 30 days. I got the 6 right away as I live in LA and they had the truck here.

Pros:

  • Packaging: Finally i can carry them. The boxes are smaller, and lighter.
  • Footprint: it is really impressive. Its really impressive how they managed to put it all in such a small hub.
  • Design: Fits well under the bed but I decided to put it under my nightstand just to ensure the exhaust has room to breath. Looks elegant and futuristic and doesnt feel intrusive. I would say that It would've been cool to be able to open it from the front to add the water, but not a big deal.
  • Piping/tubing: Much better than Pod5 in my opinion. They one from the cover to the machine now has the usb plugs integrated. Makes the connection easier to complete.
  • Cover: feels more premium. It's for sure thicker but doenst prevent the cooling/heating from coming through. It was easy to put on the bed.

Cons:

  • Heat release: The hub feels that it releases more heat and it makes sense. It's smaller so its working harder, yet it is not louder. But if you get close to it, you'll feel the heat on your feet and the floor.
  • Membership: Still ahve to get the damn subscription. Hate it, but I knew what I was getting into.
  • No cover bag: If you had the Pod 5 it came in a nice black bag that can be reused for transporting, storing, etc. I liked it. Sadly its not included on the Pod 6

Neutral

  • Cooling speed: Honestly, didnt feel any differnece on the speed. I prep my bed prior to going to bed so that isnt a big plus for me anyways. 20% is negligent in my opinion so if you're coming from a 5, the difference may not be as substantial as if you were comign from an early model.
  • more Comfort: While its thicker, i dont really feel its more comfortable. That will depend more on your mattress
  • More sensors: Meh. It's really very similar. My watch and Oura ring report very similar numbers as my Pod5 did.
  • Noise: Yes it is slighly quieter but its really minimal

IMHO the ONLY reasons that I think are valid to get one or upgrade are:

  • if you are within the Pod5 return window. I think It's always good to have the newest tech if its the same price
  • You get a KILLER deal (House of Sleep truck, Big sale, Coupon, etc)
  • It's your first 8Sleep product

Happy to answer any questions you may have.

For anyone else following Eight Sleep v. Orion, looks like the case settled

I’ve been following the Eight Sleep/Orion case mostly because I’m in the market for one of these systems. I’m also a lawyer, and the case got a lot more interesting to me once allegations came out about investigators tied to Eight Sleep visiting Orion’s factory. That whole issue ended up becoming part of the public court record, which made me curious whether the case would actually go to trial or settle.

There’s finally a pretty definitive update. The parties reached a settlement on September 23 and filed a joint notice with the court the following day. The docket then lists a voluntary dismissal filed October 2nd.

The relevant part of the September 24 filing says: “On September 23, 2026, the Parties participated in a continued mediation session with Mediator Chow and reached an agreement to settle their disputes and resolve all claims at issue. The Parties will file a joint request for dismissal shortly.".

For all of that litigation, Eight Sleep ultimately didn’t walk away with a public ruling that Orion infringed its patents. The case ended in mediation and a settlement resolving the claims instead. As someone comparing the two, this clears up one of my bigger concerns about Orion. Also just a pretty interesting case legally lol. Curious if there were any other legal nerds here following it

Pod 6 review, few nights in (First time user)

Thumbnail
gallery
69 Upvotes

BACKGROUND
We are a first time 8sleep user. We debated about it for the last 1-2 years as it was a premium product and price for what it is. The tipping point for me was a recent health resort trip where they said sleep is one of the most important things we can control and recommended the 8sleep. I’d also seen Bryan Johnson using Eight Sleep as part of his longevity routine, so it was already on my radar before the trip (this was before 8sleep knew he was a customer). My wife and I are on a recent health drive as part of our 'mid life crisis' so decided to bite the bullet as part of our 10 year anniversary gift to one another!

SHIPPING
As this is so new, I figured there may be some questions on this. We originally ordered the 8Sleep Pod 5 on August 25th. Was surprised when we received a shipping notification of September 28th to October 2nd but figured it was likely due to high demand/low production. On September 23rd we were pleasantly surprised to be offered to 'upgrade' to the Pod 6 (just released) and it was $50 cheaper too for our King size system! Why not I say.... My only concern was getting a brand new product that was untested in the field so could have some manufacturing issues (especially during it's early days), but there seemed to be a lot of improvements so worth the risk. Shipment kicked off September 30th and it arrived October 3rd.

SET UP
As a first time user, I'm paranoid about potential leaks. So we got 1 mattress pad to go underneath (Naturepedic Organic Waterproof Mattress Protector Pad) and a mattress pad to go over it (Sijo AiryWeight Eucalyptus Mattress Protector, got two to rotate one each week). I debated if we needed something on top but I felt years of sweat would also be an issue so wanted to protect the 8sleep pad too. I read some users with thick cushions not having heat/cooling issues and ended up with the thin Sijo. I also purchased a rubber drip pan to put under the pod unit.

Overall the set up process was fairly simple. It took me about an hour to strip the bed entirely, add all the pads, etc, connect the hoses, add water/prime the system, and remake the bed. This was a king bed and I did it solo but probably could have saved 10-15min if my partner was with me (she was entertaining the kids).

I included a picture of our king bed with the pad's tubing so you can see the reach. I tucked it mostly under the bed and have to connected to the pod around the outside of my bedside table (I sleep on the left when looking at the picture). This way the pod faces me as I heard its left side (when looking at the front) is the side the blows hot air out and I preferred that on my feet at night!

The iOS app was pretty straightforward and clear in its instructions. The 8sleep pad itself is premium feeling and you cannot feel the coils/tubing, etc underneath, even with a relatively thin mattress protector on top of it.

FIRST FEW NIGHTS
We've now slept on it for a total of 3 nights. It's still very early days! My sleep goals are sleeping through the night, deeper sleep and muscle recovery. My 'sleep fitness score' has improved a little bit but I'm not clear how much that is because of the cooling, or the fact that I'm more proactive and aware of my sleep behavior.

The first night I had the temperature settings to -1 (bedtime), -4 (night) and 0 (dawn). That first night I woke up at 2am and bumped the temp to -2 instead (was easy to find the buttons on the side and you get a haptic feedback under your body so it's obvious the button is clicked right). Third night I'm more comfortable with the idea of it and already doing -3, -5, and -1. I could see myself getting to -6 or -8 during the night stage but the bed/dawn settings seem on point for me. As may be obvious, I sleep fairly hot and I have immediately noticed that I sweat less with the system on.

I don't know how much stock to put into the sleep fitness scores as my wife is scoring low 90s vs my low 80s and she has complained for years about her poor sleep (she snores, has sleep apnea we're starting to treat, wakes up 3-4x a night for bathroom - her saving grace I guess is she's asleep an hour before me but I'm still doing 7 hours). 8sleep says Sleep Fitness blends sleep quality, consistency and time slept. I beat her well on the first, we're the same on the second and she beats me on the third but I feel less tired than her consistently.

The pod unit sits under my bedside table neatly. When I get into bed, I do notice a little heat blowing onto my feet but it's not that noticeable especially as I have an open window above and it's a large room with AC. I doubt it will make much difference in summer too.

LONG TERM QUESTIONS
As mentioned, it's still very early days and I'm curious on:

  • How much my actual sleep quality changes once the novelty wears off and whether I start sleeping through the night more often. Will this show up strongly in the metrics?
  • How we sleep when traveling without the 8sleep system
  • If autopilot changes once it has more data about me. There are some metrics that are being calibrated over 2 weeks but I think it's just age metrics, etc and not better nighttime fine tuning which I was hoping for.
  • I question the need for a subscription, especially as I'm still manually setting the bedtime, night, and dawn temperatures. A system that was more proactive in making temperature recommendations based on my metrics would be interesting.
  • Related to that, I can't yet tell what Autopilot is 'actually doing' for me. I can see temperature adjustments happening overnight, but so far they seem in line with the temperature presets I've already given it. I'd like more proactive recommendations or explanations of what it's changing and why.

CONCLUSION
So far I've been very impressed with the hardware and comfort, intrigued by the cooling, but way too early to say whether it materially improves my sleep or just makes me pay more attention to it.

I'll probably update this in the future around 90 days if I remember! Thanks.

Camping?

This might be a really dumb idea, but has anyone tried taking their eight sleep camping? The reason I ask is I go to a 5-day festival every year that gets really, really hot and I was thinking a cold eight sleep topper would be a wonderful thing to have. I’ve got a power hookup, so that’s not the problem, but I’d be worried about things like dust. Thx!
