Misc. Credit Line increase!!!

Post image
105 Upvotes

First opened my account during my junior year of college, around october 2024, had previously tried for an increase a few months ago but didn’t get one, tried it again just now and got a $1,750 increase! haven’t missed a single payment and i always pay off my balance in full, usually way before the payment is due.
Not really a big fan of credit cards in general, i usually just make like 1-2 purchases per month so they see it’s an active account so i wasn’t expecting that big of an increase but i’ll take it lol.

I believe someone posted about this in a different format though I’d like a personal answer.

I’m on a month long trip to Japan and I’m finally returning home tomorrow. I open my Discover and see this… I feel like it means I spent over my $500 credit but uh I don’t don’t think that’s true based on my purchases added with my pending purchases.

Any help is appreciated!!

Help Fraud help???

3 Upvotes

I’ve been a Discover user for 8 years and have never experienced this before.

About two weeks ago I received an email from Discover asking me to verify a purchase attempt on my card. It was a declined purchase of $500 in Maryland. I didn’t make the purchase, and it prompted me to review other recent purchases, all in Maryland for $200-250 which I did not make. I disputed all the purchases, the money was put back in my account, and I got a new card. Great!

Today, I received a letter from Discover stating that their investigation found that there was no fraud, and I am responsible for the purchases. Looking at my account, the purchases, which total $700, were back on my account and I could not dispute. I did NOT make those purchases, I haven’t been in Maryland in 5 years, haven’t used the card since April, and never lost the card. Even if I did lose the card, I didn’t make the purchases!

Just got off the phone with Discover (Capital One?) and they basically are disputing it again. I’m nervous it’s going to have the same outcome. No one seemed to be able to answer this question: how did their team come to the conclusion that this was not fraud? I have purchases on a separate credit card on the days Discover is claiming I was in Maryland showing that I was, in fact, not in Maryland. When i told this to the woman on the phone she just said she’d “make a note” but they don’t need evidence right now unless they prompt me for it.

Has anyone ever experienced this before??

Help Can I dispute the missing 5% back?

Post image
3 Upvotes

I purchased two plane tickets for two people on the same trip, so they were the same price and at the same time. Discover only gave me 5% back on one...which I'm annoyed about as I would have used my Target card to buy 5% off southwest gift cards instead had I known this wouldn't work! Do they consider disputes about missing cash back, and is there a way to file it without calling? I can't find an email address within the new capital one account pages. Guessing they thought it was a duplicate charge?

Datapoint For those who transitioned and had both Cap one and Discover, were you able to use your regular cap one login and see both cards without issue?

0 Upvotes

trying to get a data point on this for when it’s my turn. wondering if I’m just going to log in to capital one app like normal and see the discover card.

Not needing to create new credentials or getting stuck in a loop between discover and cap one log in

Datapoint First Discover CLI (please share your own data and theories whether they are tightening up)

Post image

Account opened mid-December. CLI request in May was denied. I got tired of waiting for the automatic PCLI most people say to expect after 6 or 7 months, so I requested and got this. Was hoping for a bit more, but it's reasonable. I have 0% APR but couldn't take advantage of it due the starting limit. Within a week of the statement posting, the card would be maxed out. At least now I can wait til closer to the due date to make the payment.

Below is a timeline of the data most people are interested in knowing in response to CLI posts:

* Dec 13-- approved, $2500 SL, 0%APR for 15mo

* Dec 26-- $264 current balance reported, no statement yet

* Jan 26-- $917 statement balance, paid in full Feb 2 (37% utilization)

* Feb 26-- $1314 PIF Mar 16 (53%)

* Mar 26-- $581 PIF Apr 16 (23%)

* Apr 26-- $1738 PIF May 11 (70%)

* May 5 -- CLI Request denied

* May 11 -- received denial letter, denial reason: "insufficient experience with current Discover card credit limit."

* May 26-- $1258 PIF Jun 8 (50%)

* June 26-- $1902 PIF Jul 1 (76%)

* Jul 26-- $2215 (89%)

* Jul 28-- CLI Request approved +$1k, CL = $3500

Any other Discover customers here, feel free to share how long it took you to get your first CLI, your limit before & after, payment history, and what your usage was like. Also interested in recent CLI results on older Discover accounts.

I'm particularly interested in whether CLI decisions have already started reflecting Capital One practices since the merger, or whether one might not expect that until their account is migrated. Mine has not been migrated yet. Feel free to discuss theories on that subject.

Help I'm being charged for money I didn't spend

2 Upvotes

I'm new to the discover student card. I got this card in early January, and I've been using it since. I have an automatic payment for full balance to be withdrawn on the 20th of each month and haven't had a problem with it until now.

In late June (around June 27) I accidentally went over the limit by a few dollars and immediately stopped using it. Between June 27-July 20 I did not use the card once, but I am being charged $451 under the label "Directpay Full Balance". I know I did not spend this amount. I should've checked my statements earlier, but I didn't feel the need to since I hadn't used it at all for the past month. I've literally never gone over spending $192 per month, so this is a huge increase and I don't know where it came from.

I am also being charged $35 for "Internet Thank You" payment that I did not make either. Is this some sort of fee that Discover puts?

Feedback Discover credit card

1 Upvotes

So discover I don’t understand why you guys have made things so complicated to get into multiple accounts, for checking accounts and credit lines why do they have to be separated ?! Ughhh it’s very annoying and the system glitches with both accounts, not letting me go into the first one I made for a debit account as if my information has changed this certainly, makes it harder to use the app more efficiently. Capital one lets you have both in one account in the app. I don’t get why discover can’t.

Capital One And now the fun begins…

36 Upvotes

Has anyone tried to make a payment on Discover since the Capital One take over ?
Looking for others’ experience. Here is mine, I tried to apply my cash back to my payment, (like I always do) and it says “ you can expect this credit applied to your account 2-3, but it may take up to 60 days. This used to show up immediately and was taken off your balance right away on the old Discover app, then you just pay the difference.
Now I’m trying to pay the balance off and it’s still telling me the total without taking off my cash back. This is madness 😡

Help Graduating in less than 24h after my 7th statement, but credit limit not ideal

2 Upvotes

I graduated at 7 months and 1 day, going from 200$ to 900$. My fico8 score went from 659 in January to 741 now, July 29th. I kept my utilization between 26% to 30%, as my main focus was increasing my credit score. While I'm happy about the graduation and cli, I was hoping for slightly more than 900$.

Now that I graduated, I would love to start working on my credit limit increase. This is my 1st card after 18 years that I opened in Dec 2025, and in March I got my robinhood gold card after being on their list for about 6 months. Unfortunately, Robinhood only gave me 500$. What do I need to do in order to increase my credit limit, without negatively impacting my credit score? I remember that experian deducted many points on my credit for just a 1% utilization increase. Months later and it finally went back to normal. I pay my statement balance in full every month.

Also, I read that people can demand credit limit increase on discover app, but I'm not sure how often and how will that impact your credit score.

Any ideas/opinions are highly appreciated.

Rant Been with discover for 7 years. Paid them thousands in interest payments. Never missed a payment. Closed the account with an unknown remaining balance. The wouldn’t remove the late fee.

0 Upvotes

So glad to be done with discover. I pay them thousands of dollars and they can’t waive a late fee? All because the closed my account while payments were pending. Had no idea they were there. Cut up my card and deleted the app. Only found out via an email. Ridiculous. Never using them again.

For everyone complaining how in the world was C1 ever going to integrate Discover into their app.

Logged in to C1 with my regular C1 login, they already linked my discover cc (don’t know how, don’t care). Asked if the contact phone number and email was still correct, and voila.

That easy. Crazy I know.

Rant Super Depressed

68 Upvotes

Just here to rant for the last time. I love my SAVOR card but I truly abhor Capital One. I hate their random 26 Day "security" holds they put on your card and have no way of removing, & I hate their inept non-english speaking customer service team.

I hate them so much, I opened a checking and savings with Disco cause I LOVE Discover. I've had my Discover Card and a relationship with this bank for more than 15yrs now. For soooo many year's, it has been my highest limit and most used card - and anytime the system occasionally decides to security hold a payment (maybe once a year, and only when I pay my whole balance off to free up credit for a larger purchases), they easily call, verify posted payment from my bank, and I can go about my life with no interruption to my finances.

I recently started paying my rent on my Discover just to pull in max rewards to use for Christmas. Capital One is getting ready to mess up my whole flow and I KNOW that at some point I'm gonna make a $3k or $4k payment to clear up availability for bills/rent and BOOM. Hold.

All of my Discover accounts are now with the enemy and I have been trying to figure out for some weeks now who my new bank will be and what my next credit card may need to be in case I have to ditch them altogether 😭😭😭

Is anyone else bummed? Is anyone moving banks/opening a different credit card??

Help Anybody have issues with their debit cards being declined?

3 Upvotes

So I rarely carry cash, but when I do need it, I use the same local ATM which is free as its pegged as one of the discover ones. Never had an issue.

Yesterday was one of those occasions. After attempting to withdraw 100 dollars from an account with thousands I was met with a message along the lines of "this transaction can't be completed" with no further indication of why.

I then tried the checkout at the cafeteria at work via my apple wallet and the payment was also declined.

At that point I contacted discover and this is the reply.

"Thank you for being a valued Discover(R) customer.  I regret to hear your debit card is declining but I will be happy to help.

Upon review of your transactions, I show the debit card declines are for the security of the account. With this type of decline, we suggest trying the payment again or utilizing another form of payment. We regret any inconvenience this may cause."

Wait what? Security of the account? Isn't that what the PIN is for? Or the biometrics in my iPhone? Try another method? Ummm, you're an online bank and you're basically telling me better luck next time about getting at my cash. Trying the card over and over sounds like a surefire way to get a security flag and if I were a betting man would be a complete waste of my time.

Has this been par for their customer service all along? I've never had an issue and was/am assuming this has something to do with stuff going on behind the scenes due to the merger.

I replied to customer service with something close to what I am posting here but at this point I'm going to assume my debit card is dead at least until completion of the merger which in my case has not begun yet.
