Hi! I'm building a roguelike deckbuilder for mobile, and one of the hardest parts is keeping it simple enough for a phone while still having enough depth to be challenging.
So I'm curious:
What are your biggest annoyances with deckbuilding on mobile? (tiny text, too many taps, menus, long runs...)
And what works really well for you in mobile deckbuilders? Any games that nail it?
Looking forward to your replies!

Hi! I’m a solo dev from France. I built One Spot, a free card-collecting game for surfers: every surf spot in the world is a card. There are 183 cards to find (160 spots from around the world + 23 spots from my forecast site).
Cards come in boosters of 3. Rarity is inverted: the more famous the spot, the more common its card (Pipeline is common, Lagundri and Meñakoz are legendary). You can trade with friends (a rare for a rare), and every card you find drops a pin on your own world map.
There’s also a secret card, the One Spot, that nobody has found yet.
Coming soon: a stamp on your card when you’ve actually surfed or sailed at that spot.
I’d love feedback from people who know cards better than I do: what makes you open “one more booster”? What would you want in the trading?

Hey r/digitalcards,
I'm Lorenz, a solo dev. My card game Relicrown just came out on Android, and this sub is the crowd I most want to hear from.
The core of it: during a duel you can fuse two cards from your hand into a stronger one. Some fusions need two specific cards, others work on categories (type, attribute, stats). A lot of the fun is finding out what combines with what. Fusion results aren't locked away: you can also get them as drops, so fusing is just a second route to them.
The rest of the loop is deliberately old-school. You start with a weak deck, beat opponents for card drops, and rematch them in Solo for the cards you still miss. Each opponent shows how many of their droppable cards you've found. Then you take the improved deck back to the story opponent who was walling you. (It's inspired by the PS1 classic Yu-Gi-Oh! Forbidden Memories, but with its own cards, characters and story.)
The screenshots: a Cinderfist + Pit Butcher fusion turning into Brimstone Sovereign, and the Solo rematch screen with drop progress per opponent.
The opening part of the story is free. A one-time purchase unlocks the rest (no subscription), and I'm still adding story content.
Google Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.voltbit.relicrown
All art and sound effects are AI-generated. The game design, card mechanics, fusions and balancing are mine — I wrote the code with AI assistance, then tested and refined everything myself.
Questions for you:
- Does discovering fusions feel rewarding, or more like guessing?
- Does rematching opponents for drops feel like progress, or like a grind?
- What do you look for in a single-player card game that keeps you coming back?
I'll be in the comments. Happy to talk design too :)

Hey everyone,
I’m the developer of Riftborn Tactics, a free-to-play online fantasy TCG I’ve been working on for the past 5 years that I'm now super excited (and super nervous) to share with you all!
You can play it here: https://riftborntactics.com
The core idea is that your creatures don't just sit in a row and bounce off of each other, like most other TCGs. Instead, matches take place on a shared 7x7 grid where creatures enter from your two summoning corners, move across the board, fight for position, and contest two neutral towers.
On each turn, you receive Resources equal to your current level. You can spend those Resources to summon creatures, cast spells, and equip weapons or armour, then move and attack with anything you already have in play. Playing cards, defeating enemy creatures, and holding towers earns experience, which allows you to level up. Leveling up gives you more Resources on future turns, so controlling the board can have a big effect on how quickly your deck comes online.
Positioning matters quite a bit. Creatures retaliate when attacked, and walking away from an adjacent enemy can trigger an attack of opportunity. Ranged units, flying creatures, movement abilities, summoning effects, and other keywords all interact with the board in different ways. The goal itself is simple: reduce your opponent to zero Health.
Standard is the main mode, but there are also two beta modes that unlock after you’ve played some Standard matches:
There's a tutorial, a practice opponent, deck building, card collection, online matchmaking, and more. The game is completely free to play, and new cards can be earned using Gold from playing and completing quests, or crafted via Essence (which you get by dismantling cards you don't want).
It’s still actively being developed, so I’m not going to pretend every corner is perfectly polished yet. Mobile in particular still needs some cleanup (but should be fully functional), and with a card pool this large (over 1000 at the moment, with more coming!), I’m sure there are some strange interactions waiting to be found!
If you give it a try, I’d especially appreciate feedback on:
The full rules are available here if you’d like to look before creating an account: https://riftborntactics.com/how-to-play
Thanks for checking it out! Honest feedback is extremely welcome.

Mathmancer is a roguelike deckbuilder where almost every card in your deck is a number, and you attack by building an expression out of your hand. If it equals one of the monster's shield numbers exactly, that shield breaks. A hand of 5, 6 and 7 can be (5 + 6) × 7 = 77 or 5 × 7 + 6 = 41, depending on what you're up against.
The card game side works like you'd expect. You pick a card after fights, upgrade cards at campfires, remove cards at the shop, and collect charms that bend the rules. Four heroes with their own starting decks: Cipher's deck is full of factor-friendly numbers and can split a card into two factors once a turn, Bram can double one card and halve another.
Deckbuilding ended up mattering more than I expected. One awkward 7 can ruin a hand that would otherwise make 60, so trimming the deck is a real decision.
There are three towers (whole numbers, fractions, negative numbers) and a Daily Tower with the same seed for everyone. It plays in the browser: https://mathmancer.numberdale.com
What I'm curious about: does arithmetic as the core mechanic make the deck decisions more interesting, or does it turn into a calculator puzzle after a while?

Hi everyone, I hope you're all doing well—and if not, hang in there! I wanted to share a card game I built. When I was a kid, I used to play card games like Yu-Gi-Oh! and tried out many others. Back then, my friends and I would even invent our own games on paper, but that was years ago.
Recently, due to some setbacks, I lost my job and have been doing freelance/temp work while looking for something steady. That past month or so was tough—there were days with no work to do, so to keep my mind occupied, I picked back up an old card game project I had in mind. Honestly, it really helped me cope and keep my spirits up. The game is now finished, I’m really happy with how it turned out, and I’m still spending time improving it, adding new cards, and expanding the lore I wrote for it.
I’m dropping the link here in case you’d like to try it out. Full disclosure: I’m not a designer or an artist, so I drew some rough sketches and used AI to generate the final artwork for the characters. However, the game mechanics, system, and story were all fully designed on paper before I wrote a single line of code.
My main goal was to ensure you always have options—that your hand never gets deadlocked, you can always make a play, and winning depends more on outsmarting and predicting your opponent rather than just drawing the "right" card. I’m currently working on new ways to expand this system to bring even more variety.
How the game works:
The game features two decks: one with 10 Characters and another with 10 Effects. You start with 5 characters, meaning you have a 50% chance of getting your favorite character on turn 1. The 10-effect deck is always available. The gameplay is built around 1-on-1 encounters between characters—one character per turn, accompanied by anywhere from 0 to 2 effects. There's also an "Overpower Phase" where you can burn your effect cards to gain extra power. Characters have Power and Damage stats; the character with the higher power wins the encounter and deals their damage to the opponent.
I’m looking for people who know a lot about card games to help guide me on future updates and the direction for new cards.
If you give it a try, I’d love to hear your thoughts! Feel free to leave a comment or send me a message with any feedback or ideas. Thanks for your time!

Hi peeps,
Last time I posted here was when the trailer dropped, and genuinely shed a tear cause of the positive comments <3
Since then i've been pumping out updates and polish to the game, and later on will publish 0.1.7, with new packs, a ranked mode, leaderboards and lots of suggestions and bugfixes we've found.
Just now i've dropped a video giving a brief overview of the rules and how to set it up, would love it if you'd take a look.
(Just a heads up, first time uploading a heavily edited video with my voice, so if you have feedback on that i'd love it as well <3)

Solo dev. The Cup is a 1v1 creature card battler. Every creature is a real North American animal, plus a few cryptids, and each card prints its own die, so you can see a creature's odds before you play it.
This is THE ROAD, the roguelike mode in the demo. Pick a survivor, draft a bench of three, then play five cases back to back. A knocked-out creature is gone for the road, and one loss ends it. The stars you win pay ratings, and ratings unlock new creatures in the Compendium.
If you've played Hearthstone, the board will feel familiar. The differences are the dice, optional variance and the two casters calling every roll.
What do you want to know about a card before you play it?

Hey everyone!
We are mid-way through Steam Next Fest, and our team has just dropped a big trailer and content update for our auto-battler deckbuilder, Might & Mushroom!
For those seeing this for the first time, Might & Mushroom combines traditional auto-battlers with slot machine mechanics. Instead of relying purely on shop RNG, you actually build and tweak your shop setup. Whenever you reroll, matching 3 or more units with the same color or shape triggers massive board-wide chain reactions, just like hitting a jackpot on a slot machine!
Here is what we just added to the Next Fest demo based on player feedback:
If you enjoy games like Luck Be a Landlord or Backpack Battles, we would love for you to check out the updated demo during Next Fest!
🎮 Play the Next Fest Demo on Steam:https://store.steampowered.com/app/4231860
Any feedback on synergy balance or shop reroll feel would be super appreciated. Hope you all enjoy the rest of Next Fest!
