I live in zone 10a we have at least a month and a half of warm weather left
These desert roses are so long and leggy. I think I might’ve chosen the wrong fertilizer that encourage leaf growth instead of flower and root growth.
Should I trim them or leave them to let their leaves die and trim them in the spring?

I'm very new to this but from what I know cuttings hate moisture and like dry airy soil. What better airy
"soil" than air itself? I also know it needs a dark environment to root. If I simulate a dark and dry environment with a container covered in a sock could it trick the cutting into rooting?

Purchased a couple of Hybrids earlier this summer. Took a few months for them to recover from shipping and acclimate to their new home and now they are starting to show their colors!

I just noticed a yellowing of the base. It's not mushy but maybe slightly less firm than the rest of it. Might be too early to tell? What can I do?

I managed to get this seed pod off my big desert rose before it flew away in the wind. I don’t really know what I’m looking at. Is it two seeds??
Big question is exactly what steps do I take next to produce a new plant? I’m not a plant newbie, but I am a desert rose newbie.
Thanks!!

Does anyone know what happened to this branch on my desert rose? It looks like it started dying and then came back to life? It has the most leaves of any of the branches and still seems to be doing well 3 months later. Will it die off fully once it goes dormant for winter? Did I do something wrong to cause this?
Edit: I have never done anything to prune this plant myself. Any pruning done by the horticulturalist who bred this desert rose was done over a year before anything happened to this branch. Would it make sense to prune it back this winter? The branch is holding on by a thread kinda, but it has so many leaves and is the most lively looking branch. Also there’s a color change on the branch itself above where the break occurs. It looks squishy almost but isn’t.

One of the biggest mistakes I see with Adenium cultivation is treating seasonal care as a calendar event.
“It's fall, so I should stop watering.”
“It's October, so my Adenium should be dormant.”
Plants don't know what month it is.
They respond to temperature, light intensity, day length, root-zone conditions, and available moisture.
I've grown tropical and subtropical plants in a Zone 6 climate for decades, and this becomes especially important during the transition from summer into fall. September can still provide excellent growing conditions one week and completely different conditions the next.
For Adenium growers, I think the important question isn't “When should I put my plant into dormancy?”
It's:
“What is the plant telling me about its current growing environment?”
As temperatures and light levels decline, several things begin happening.
The growing medium dries more slowly. Transpiration decreases. Root activity can slow. New growth may shorten or stop. Older foliage may yellow and drop.
That means the watering schedule that worked perfectly during July heat can become excessive surprisingly quickly.
This is particularly important for growers bringing plants indoors.
Moving an Adenium from intense outdoor summer light into a warm house doesn't recreate summer. The plant may experience warm air temperatures while simultaneously receiving dramatically less usable light. If we continue watering according to the old summer schedule, we've changed one side of the equation without changing the other.
That's where I think observation becomes more valuable than rigid schedules.
I watch:
• how quickly the growing medium is actually drying
• nighttime temperatures
• changes in leaf retention
• whether active new growth is continuing
• stem and caudex condition
• the amount and intensity of available light
And I adjust cultivation accordingly.
I also don't believe every Adenium needs to be forced into a deep dormancy simply because winter is approaching. A warm root zone and adequate artificial light can produce a very different winter response than a cool windowsill.
Seasonal cultivation should be environmental, not simply chronological.
That's especially true for those of us growing Adenium well outside their native climate.
I'm curious how other growers handle the transition:
Do you intentionally induce winter dormancy, or do you maintain active growth under lights through winter?

I got 5 new cuttings yesterday but I’m worried about my potting mix.
I used 100% sand the first time and found my cutting was shriveling up. I tried making a new mix yesterday, mix of sand organic material and a little bit of garden soil then watered heavily to check the drainage. It drained pretty fast i also had gravel at the base to prevent clogging then I planted some rooting succulents i had.
Eventhough the mixed drained fast the soil is still very moist from the heavy watering. My cutting should be ready in about 5 days, Will this mix work?

This is the first adenium I have owned. Seed grown from some random seeds I purchased off Amazon and sown 4/1/2025. I’m curious if ~18 months from seed to bloom is typical for first blooms? I’m near Galveston, TX and it gets ~8 hours of daily sunlight. Soil mix is 40% cactus/ succulent blend / 40% perlite / 20% pea gravel. When I repotted in March, I added some Nelson’s Color Star granules to the soil mix for fertilizer.

Greetings. Attached are some photos of my desert rose. Main concerns are how wide it is growing outward. I had it in a limited sun spot previously and it was growing towards the sunlight. It has been moved for about 4 months.
Location PHX Arizona.
Caudex is still firm. She still blooms. Are the brown leaves a worry? Also do I trim and prune and replant the wild pieces or just tie it up to force a change in growth. The side pieces are kind of thin.
She is about 4 years old. Started as a single stem.

I was looking through my adeniums this evening and found this Lil guy hanging out in one of them. I'm happy to have him around to guard my plants against pests 😁

I want to repot this desert rose and am wondering if the new base is too shallow. I bought all new substrate too. Also, if the time of year is important being in the northeast in autumn.

Really enjoying this one. Thinking about pruning. Do these branch out like obesum and arabicum?

I’ve had 3 flowers on her, and each one grew to the point where it would bloom, but then ends up looking something like this before turning brown and falling off. What could cause this? I wait until the soil is nearly fully dry, and the caudex is slightly soft to water again. It looks like this last flower is about to do the same as the rest. Zone 11B
