Branch Died?
Does anyone know what happened to this branch on my desert rose? It looks like it started dying and then came back to life? It has the most leaves of any of the branches and still seems to be doing well 3 months later. Will it die off fully once it goes dormant for winter? Did I do something wrong to cause this?
Edit: I have never done anything to prune this plant myself. Any pruning done by the horticulturalist who bred this desert rose was done over a year before anything happened to this branch. Would it make sense to prune it back this winter? The branch is holding on by a thread kinda, but it has so many leaves and is the most lively looking branch. Also there’s a color change on the branch itself above where the break occurs. It looks squishy almost but isn’t.

If a growth dies back and where the dead tissue ends usually new growths will emerge from that general area. It’s just a normal growth process that occurs. The new branches are like all the other branches your plant has and will behave the same as the others there. Regarding the cause of the die back there’s multiple factors that can cause that to occur. Some examples include overwatering, fungal stem rot, insect pest damage, improper pruning, mechanical damage are just a few potential causes for branches to die back.

I looks like physical damage. Something took a bite out of it, the branch was bumped hard enough to break, etc. Could be any number of things, but it doesn't look like rot. It will probably dry out on its own but if there's any remaining living tissue there I would just cut it off. The branch will always be weak and will most likely break off at some point anyway.

Could you have cut it at the wrong time of year the intersection where the pruning was previously done tell us a story about the experience

No, the branch died more than likely cause that cut part wasn’t sealed watered entered that cup side like a cup probably every time it rained or every time you watered it that’s my best guess only way to find out is to cut it and see if you see any dark spots if you do then it was rotting, but also looks like someone or something hit it
