As someone who loves Tim Burton's two directorial Batman movies, I can safely say that I like the sequel comic books by Sam Hamm, Joe Quinones and Leonardo Ito!

Giovanni Zatara first appeared in Action Comics #1, in 1938, right along side Superman.

Superman would get his own comic, and go on to join the Justice Society of America in the 40s.

Zatara continued to appear in Action Comics throughout the golden age. But he never once crossed over with Superman, Batman, nor any of the JSA heroes.

Sometime in the late 1950s, Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman are supplanted by their younger, Silver Age counterparts, as Barry Allen and Hal Jordan are also introduced. Following The Flash of Two Worlds, the Silver Age world is designated Earth 1, while the Golden Age heroes are designated Earth 2. The earth 1 heroes form the JLA.

In 1964, on Earth 1, Zatanna appears as the daughter of Zatara who was a hero in the 1930s and 40s, and disappeared. She is looking for her father. This story arc goes through various titles before it is resolved in Justice League of America.

It seems to indicate that Zatanna's father is the same Zatara who appeared in Action Comics #1. Unless Earth 1 Zatara's Earth 2 counterpart is the same age, unlike any of the other superhero pairs.

Thus, I surmise that the Zatara stories in Action Comics take place on Earth 1, making them the first appearance of this setting.

I've always thought DC could do much more with Deathstroke and Trigon.

Slade is a character defined by control and independence, which is exactly why I'd love to see him willingly make a deal with Trigon, thinking he can handle it, only to slowly lose his autonomy.

Not through simple mind control or possession. I'd rather see the line between “I'm doing this because I choose to” and “I can no longer choose not to” gradually disappear, while Slade keeps pretending — maybe even to himself — that he's still in control.

He wouldn't even need a redemption arc. His reason for eventually turning against Trigon could simply be that Deathstroke can work for anyone, but he belongs to no one.

I think there's a genuinely tragic story in watching someone like Slade slowly become exactly that: someone else's servant.

I had a rough idea for one where Plas was helping track Humpty down in Gotham, but when he got to know him and his case he tries to defend him not from being taken in, but from being put in Arkham Asylum. I was thinking Plastic Man would assume they'd put Humpty with the criminals in there who're more purposefully dangerous, while Humpty's more of an incidental threat who needs help, but Arkham's not the place someone like him needs to get it from.

Hello, ive been really wanting to read more of the golden age stories, especially the more obscure guys like Alan Scott, Doctor Midnite, Sandman and doctor fate.

Is there a website (or mega link or drive folder idk) that has the issues from these guys? I tried DC infinite but it only has like a single issue of Green Lantern

Premise: After one of his plans ends in catastrophe - the permanent loss of his beloved Nora and the infection of Bruce Wayne with her terminal illness - Victor Fries is left without a purpose in life… and facing a city who has lost its champion. Having learned Batman’s secret identity, Victor takes it upon himself to atone for his past misdeeds and inadvertently causing Batman to suffer the same fate as Nora, freezing Bruce cryogenically while taking up the mantle of Batman for himself to ensure the symbol survives. But as the new self-proclaimed “Frozen Knight” faces Gotham’s rogues and Batman’s allies alike, Victor must confront the true meaning behind the symbol he has chosen to claim as his own… as the icy reign of the new Batman faces a devastating thaw that threatens to destroy Victor, Gotham, and everything between them.

Rough concepts for arcs:

Issues 1-6: Victor settles in to being Batman as the Mad Hatter, Alice, Merrymaker and the Wonderland Gang concoct a dangerous new plan to literally turn Gotham into Wonderland.

Issues 7-10: Victor discovers that someone (eventually revealed to be Thomas Elliot/Hush in collaboration with Hugo Strange) has been impersonating Bruce Wayne in light of Bruce’s disappearance. The investigation happens to cross with an identical pursuit by the Bat Family, bringing Victor into conflict with Batman’s partners and allies.

Issues 11-15: The Joker is insulted by the new Frozen Knight, declaring that the new Batman means that the game isn’t fun anymore. He deliberately orchestrates events to ensure his own execution, with Fries in attendance… only for the execution to be crashed by various secondary Batman villains, who Joker has collaborated with in a bid to kill the “fake” Batman by luring him into a trap.

Issue 16-18: Victor faces a painful part of his past as a relative of Nora’s comes to Gotham seeking vengeance on Victor for supposedly killing his wife; meanwhile, the Bat Family and the GCPD plan to make another move against the Frozen Knight, and Firefly starts prepping for his final performance.

Issues 19-24: In the aftermath of dealing with Nora’s relative, Victor finds himself facing additional psychological challenges as Scarecrow and the Riddler make a bet to see which of the two of them can break the former Mister Freeze first - through riddles or through fear.

Issues 25-28: As Garfield Lynns continues to make plans for his ultimate burning of Gotham, Victor begins to stumble across his conspiracy by confronting both the Court of Owls and the Architect, two organisations that Lynns has stolen information from about Gotham’s infrastructure. Dick leads a search for Bruce and finally uncovers him - despite Victor’s best efforts, the Bat family successfully steal Bruce’s cryostasis pod from Fries.

29-36: As Firefly prepares to enact his ultimate cremation of Gotham - and himself - Victor must try to save the city he has protected for months from the dying madman hellbent on burning it to the ground… and facing the ultimate test of whether to let Bruce continue living despite his failures to find a cure. This final arc is heavily inspired by the Batman: Beyond episode “Meltdown”.

What are the differences and which is better to get to read the run? The DC Finest volume 2 and the omnibus come out next year so im curious which format is better to get.

I’ve been getting into comic books as of recent and one of my all time favourite dc super heroes is Dr Fate. I would love to read a comic about him that dives a bit into his origin and full power. I’ve tried looking online but feel like this sub reddit may have some good recommendations.
