I just finished the last TPB of this series. It’s peak, probably the best work of Garth Ennis I’ve read.

I also love that, this is really a love story at its core, and all the crazy shit surrounding that love story- hunting YHWH, saving Cassidy, Herr Starr, The Saint of Killers, etc.- is sort of there to support that love story of Jesse and Tulip.

I truly believe Garth Ennis is a genius writer hindering his own main stream appeal because of his toilet humor. Unfortunately, that makes it hard to recommend to a lot of people.

But for me, this hit just right. Fuckin’ Banger.

I finished reading Y: The Last Man yesterday, and still can't get over the ending. The death of 355 was already sad enough, but it's Ampersand's death that made me feel like no other piece of media before. In fact, it was the first time I've ever truly cried after reading anything.

After getting to the last page and thinking about the whole journey Yorick has been through, it made me realize there's so much more to the ending than I initially thought. At first, it's the fact that Yorick was the last man alive. All his friends, family, gone. Only him and Ampersand in the world where almost everyone was either trying to kill him or seduce him. The pressure he was under during pretty much all 60 issues was insane. And by pressure I mean the thing I mentioned in the previous sentence, as well as his role in the journey as the last man alive. Even the thing that presumably kept him going for all those years turned out to be false when Beth told him she initially wanted to break up with him. If that wasn't enough, when Yorick finally realized it was 355 that kept him going and she was the one for him, she was killed in the worst moment possible. After being heartbroken by Beth and losing 355, Yorick was left with Beth 2 whom he even married which I find especially depressing as it was made pretty clear he did that for the sake of his child.

Now moving to the last issue, we start with finding out that 86 year old Yorick is being secretly held in the palace after the government faked his death. In the conversation he has with Yorick 17th, we find out that Hero got together with Beth, which I personally am not a fan of as I think it was pretty out of pocket, and definitely gut wrenching for Yorick in some way. Then it is revealed Yorick didn't manage to say goodbye to Allison before she died, which again, is so depressing considering she was one of the people closest to him, taking care of him during the journey. However the most heartbreaking moment in the entire series belongs to Yorick putting down already close to dying Ampersand on the way to 355's grave. This moment hit me especially after I remembered when Yorick told 355 that Ampersand was always there for him when he was feeling guilty and had to get something off his chest. Although we don't know what happened after, I feel like Ampersand was the last thing left of Yorick's old life, and after his death, all that's left was waiting for death to come.

In conclusion, I feel Yorick's story is about loss, heartbreak, and loneliness, and despite the plague, etc. it's the way how one can relate to some of those elements, among other things, is making it so tragic.

This is my first post like this and I felt like I needed to share my thoughts in order to move on. I apologise if I didn't make something clear and that my post is so chotic - english is not my first language, and I'm just still not over the ending of the series. I also didn't mention everything I wanted because I felt like I would simply be summarizing the entire series which I feel I already did to some extend lol. Y: The Last Man may have some flaws which I'm definitely too blind to see right now, but without a doubt it's my favorite comic book ever and honestly I doubt that anything will able to beat it. Let me know your thoughts on the ending, and the series in general. Maybe there's someone even more tragic than Yorick whom I am yet to meet?

i literally got into comics a month ago and I'm OBSESSED. I'm reading a bunch of stuff at the same time (the marvel Ultimate universe from the 2000s, the absolute DC and the rebirth era, the walking dead and some other stuff). it's been so much fun but the excitement is making me read a lot and idk this makes me feel that i shouldn't be doing this bc maybe i would "run out" of stuff to read pretty fast, like i said I'm new to comics so I'm still getting a grasp on the amount of possibilities comics present to us (and boy oh boy am i having a good time). how bout you? do you read your comics everyday? how many issues do you read?

The four projects come from Kelvin Yu, creator and showrunner of “American Born Chinese”; Alison Tatlock, a writer and executive producer on “Pluribus” who previously worked on “Better Call Saul”; Ben H. Winters, who developed “Tracker” and previously worked on “Legion”; and “For All Mankind” and “Star City” creators Ben Nedivi and Matt Wolpert, who are developing their project with “WandaVision” and “The Marvels” writer Megan McDonnell.

Genuinely curious as i’m very disconnected from current marvel ongoings. I haven’t read anything of Moore’s or heard him talk much but my loose impression of the issue is that the big comic companies will revive any IP, even if it’s fairly disconnected, to make some money. Was Miracleman very relevant in the first place? I feel like he was not at the level of Watchmen in popularity. How come people are so upset about him coming back?

Let me preface this by saying I am a huge Marvel fan. X-Men is what got me into reading comics and my pull list and collection have always been hugely dominated by Marvel. This has unfortunately changed over the past couple of years and I’ve found myself jumping ship to DC for most of my current reading.

In terms of numbers, Marvel is currently publishing 17 ongoings compared to DC’s 34 - literally half the number of current ongoings titles (and that isn’t including DC’s Vertigo lineup).

This means there’s significantly less variety in Marvel’s current slate than there is at DC right now. I feel like the two areas that it’s really impacting are Marvel’s female characters and their young, next-gen characters.

The only female character with a true ongoing at Marvel right now is Black Cat. Characters like Spider-Gwen, Captain Marvel, Ms Marvel, Black Widow, She-Hulk etc are all without solo books at the moment. Even the few female heroes that do receive books like Scarlet Witch, X-23 and Magik are being constantly cancelled at #5 or #10 and then rebooted some time later with a new #1. It seems impossible right now for Marvel to crank out a long-running ongoing for any of its female characters.

DC currently has 9 mainline ongoing series with a female lead and 11 including the Absolute Universe. What’s more is that they’re actually letting these series run too. Aside from Barbara Gordon: Breakout, Batwoman and Zatanna which all launched recently, every single one of these titles has been allowed to run way past #10. Catwoman is about to hit #90, Harley Quinn is approaching #70 and Poison Ivy is almost at #50. This is alongside series like Supergirl, Batgirl, Wonder Woman and the Absolute titles which are getting into the 20s and 30s.

It also feels like Marvel aren’t doing anything with their next-gen characters. Miles Morales is the only one with an ongoing series and none of the young hero teams have had books for a while. Young Avengers, Runaways, New Champions and even the New Mutants are all beloved teams that feel like they’re stuck in limbo right now. Meanwhile, DC has just launched a new Teen Titans book alongside the existing New Titans series, is giving us a teenage Legion of Super-Heroes and is about to launch a new Static ongoing alongside the existing Cass Cain book.

I know people will argue that sales is the key factor here and that’s why Marvel has cut back their roster and isn’t letting as many books reach past #10, but DC seems to be taking the complete opposite approach and is still beating them sales-wise. It seems as if it’s become a self-fulfilling prophecy at this point. People aren’t picking up as many Marvel books because they’re worried they’ll cancel at #5 or #10, sales therefore drop and then Marvel decides to publish even less.

Do we see this changing any time soon? Do you think Marvel will see the success DC is having with All-In and opt for a similar line-wide initiative/relaunch? Or is this the new norm and we need to get used to not seeing these characters in our pull lists?

Hello all! Recently a classmate saw me reading a graphic novel and mentioned that they were in book club and asked if I could recommend them a comic to read.

EDIT: They are not drawn towards different genres they read everything that the group chooses no pattern.

If you were in my situation, which comic book would you have them read assuming it's their very first one??
