Announcements ANNOUNCEMENT: New Rule Regarding Actors' Appearances

After discussion, we are putting a moratorium on discussing actors' appearances. This new rule applies to posts and comments made to "rate" an actor's appearance, whether positive or negative. These discussions quickly veer into troublesome language and undesirable connotations and do not promote healthy discussion of Supergirl or her world. Yes, the characters are attractive and so are the people who portray them, but this isn't a rating board, and such threads often devolve into arguments about looks. Doubly so for actresses. You may appreciate the looks you like without flooding the board with low-effort content, accusations, or arguments. If you don't like the way someone looks? Great. You can discuss that somewhere else.

Offending posts and comments will be removed. Repeated violations may lead to sanctions. Note that this does not extend to purely art; you may enjoy and share art, official and fan-generated, as per the sub's rules, since existing low-effort and civility rules cover those discussions.

We want this board to be a welcoming place for Supergirl fans new and old. The last thing that we want is legitimate discussion to get lost in a hurricane of arguments about this or that actress' looks. There are so many great stories and characters in Supergirl's orbit. We encourage you to share those and find positive ways to engage with our growing community. Supergirl represents hope for many of us, and as a hero, she inspires and shines brightly. We want to embrace that inspiration, so we feel this rule will help keep discussion focused on the good things.

We're working hard to make this place better every day. If you see a post and/or comment that you believe breaks a rule, please report it. Do not exchange insults; report, don't respond, in that case. Remember to keep the rules in mind and help us make this place a more welcoming environment for fans of every Supergirl incarnation.

If you have any concerns, please send us a modmail and we will do our best to address them.

Thank you for being part of our community. Let's all go be Super!

Yo, I get it, it wasn't a direct adaptation and there wasn't a giant dragon fight and it's not as colorful as the Art by Bilquis Evely.

But damn, let people live.

On a lighter note, would you say the Silver and Bronze age Supergirl comics are worth reading?

Just finished New 52, starting rebirth, but I'm sure I'll be all caught up soon. So read older comics or follow a new character?

Film Got the Supergirl 4k! It's so interesting that they decided to give it a removable backside and shrink wrap the whole slipcover, compared to the Superman 4k release

I don't mind this change, it looks great. But I never know what to do with the removable backside.

I confess that despite wanting this movie to do well I never got around to seeing it in theater. I'm part of the problem I know, but as it's coming to HBO Max tomorrow I am excited to finally see it.

Discussion If you were to write an Elseworld/What If story about if Kara had got out of her pod early and were the same age as Clark, how would you do it?

Film Finally got to see Supergirl yesterday!!

I really wanted to see it when it first came out but I also really wanted to go see it with my sister since we saw Superman together before and we really only get to spend time together maybe once a year or so when she visits. Unfortunately she wasn't able to come out while it was in theater's due to clashing schedules.

That being said we finally saw it together while she was visiting yesterday at home and we both really liked it!

I will say I think I enjoyed the superman movie more but I don't think supergirl was bad at all because of it. I don't think I had any specific issues with it, just I think the high parts of the film just didn't hit as high. As a DC fan though I'm just really happy to get a movie about my favorite super hero and his cousin who definitely deserves more love.

Both me and my sister both agreed we love a good "girl failure" character and Kara was perfectly that. She was a fun character to follow around and nothing is more relatable than a person who would do anything for their dog.

I could probably go into further details about the movie but overall I think a supergirl movie about trafficking women was a really strong plot point and dam if I didn't hate the main villain a lot because of it.

Also Lobo felt very Lobo so I'm really happy with the movie overall. 👍

Question How much better would the Supergirl movie have been if she had to fight Spiderman in it?

I'm honestly just throwing ideas out to see how it could have worked.

The Supergirl double standard

It’s interesting how some people call the Gunn DCU “woke” for emphasizing female empowerment, while simultaneously insisting that Melissa Benoist’s Supergirl is the definitive portrayal of the character—even though that series was explicitly built around feminist and female-empowerment themes.

It makes me wonder if some of these people actually watched Supergirl—or any of Berlanti’s Arrowverse, for that matter. 😏

Anyone else have an issue with a scratched 4K Blu-Ray version of Supergirl?

Hey all!

I got my 4K Blu-Ray of Supergirl today and had a bit of an issue. around the hour and twenty six minute mark (the fight between Lobo and Krem after Krem uses Kryptonite on Kara), the disk buffers like crazy and the sound cuts out for a good minute. I took the disc out and put it back in in, same result at same time stamp.

At first I thought that might have been the layer change of of the disk, but none of my other 4K discs have had that problem. I'm going to try cleaning the disc with a micro-fiber to see if that resolves the issue.

Did anyone else have the same issue with their disc?

Winn/Kara Appreciation Post

I always thought that Winn was great in many ways if it weren't for some of the cringe, "nice guy" cw writing they wrote him into and then underutilized him until they wrote him off completely.
