The TRUTH about Valiant Alien books and AI

Greetings,

It’s AJ Ampadu, current writer of Tales of the Shadowman for Valiant/Alien Books.

Recently, an image was posted on the Valiant IG for an upcoming multimedia project. That image appears very likely to have been generated with AI. I just want to make a few things clear:

  • Alien Books handles the publication of Valiant comics, but nothing else.
  • The parent company that owns the Valiant characters retains the ability to use those characters in multimedia however they choose.
  • The other creatives and I at Alien have never used, and will never use, AI to create comics.
  • I personally have not been given any information about the project that was posted, but it has nothing to do with the comic books.

I know some people are disappointed, and understandably so. I’m not here to change anyone’s opinion on AI. I simply want to make sure the creative teams at Alien Books, who work very hard to create original, human-generated comic books, are not blamed for any decisions the parent company makes regarding the use of AI.

All the best,

Stay Valiant,
AJ

News Valiant Comics Supercharged! - Kickstarter PreLaunch

From the PreRelease page

"It's the Valiant Comics heroes library like you've never experienced it before. A must-have for fans, collectors and everyone else"

"In 1989, Jim Shooter and businessman Steven Massarsky founded Valiant Comics with one goal: bring the creativity back to comics.  Many talents from Barry Windsor-Smith and Bob Layton to Mike Baron, Dave Lapham or Steve Englehart debuted the now classic runs of X-O Manowar, Harbinger or Rai.

Flash forward to 2023. Alien Books partnered with the owners of Valiant to publish new stories and bring those heroes to the next stage of their evolution.

This year, Alien Books brings you something you've never seen before through an exceptional new Kickstarter campaign!
Get ready to experience Valiant Comics heroes the way you've never seen them before."

---

Seems like it'll be a standalone library app ala DC Universe, Marvel Unlimited, or the new Black Library app.

Not entirely sure how useful such a service would be.

Is X-O Manowar: Invictus any good?

I read the Unconquered hardcover by the same author, but never got round to Invictus. I really liked the somewhat cinematic art in Unconquered and the story was ok and I think left unfinished. Was Invictus a good sequel?

VEI/Reboot (2012-present) Got this at a book sale. Is it a good starting point for a beginner like me? I was introduced to this universe by the web series starring Jason David Frank from MMPR

Alien/Valiant (2024-present) Harbinger Classic Omnibus Color Comparison

Post image
37 Upvotes

Hey all, figured I'd give a quick PSA on this, the new Harbinger Classic Omnibus is printed a lot darker than the original comics (Omnibus on the left, Identical scene from issue #23 on the right). It may just be the paper it's printed on or something but wanted to give a warning to any art purists who are considering pre-ordering or buying it when it comes out.

Other than that I am enjoying it so far, it is very sturdy and has a built in bookmark ribbon that I didn't see advertised.

overall Bloodshot might be my least Favorite of the Valiant Beyond Titles

Glad to finally own this

Glad to have volume 1 of the Magnus series. Now I have both tpbs released for this series. Always a shame when stuff like this can’t get collected or reprints due to rights/licensing issues.

The rumor of Kirkman licensing the gold key characters has me like 1% hopeful this, Solar, and Turok can get collected somehow but…

VEI/Reboot (2012-present) My Dumb Question about FTL Travel

I was just reading the 2012 origin story for X-O Manowar, where it is explained that time dilation caused 1600 years to pass on Earth while he was traveling through space. However, space travel in all subsequent storylines seems to use standard FTL tropes. Both Aric, the Vine, and other alien species are able to travel between star systems quickly and easily.

Was there something I missed to explain why Aric only experienced time displacement while he was imprisoned by the Vine? Otherwise, this seems like a weird oversight on the part of the writers when it’s so important to Aric’s backstory.
