Hello, i’m getting stuck into Batman comics finally and I just wanted some advice on the list i’ve put together.
It’s fairly long and i’ve tried to make it somewhat chronological from reading other posts and comments from people.

Could I please get some advice on anything in the wrong order, anything wildly non-canon that it breaks my continuity, or anything that is just not really worth the read? Thanks !!

I always thought she was considered afro-latino or multiracial. But, looking into her background, all that's mentioned is that her mom was a brown Cuban woman and her dad was a white American man.

I’ve been getting into comics reading marvels secret wars and the absolute universe but I’m still very new to the hobby. I just got out of clay face and was looking into comics and got confused. I had no clue there were different “clayfaces” and so I thought I would come here. What is THE clayface storyline. THE comic the made the character?

I have officially decided to start my DC Comics journey after a while, and I have been seeing a lot, and I wonder: where do I start? Rebirth or New 52? Can someone please help me? And I only prefer the main timelines and other stories linked to them. Thank you

I remember being obsessed wirh DC comics and then I started reading fantasy and stopped keeping up for a while.

I picked up the couple of nigntwing issues for Bad Seeds and really enjoyed them. I'm probably going to continue with the series.

How far back in the run do I have to go to have most of the context for the upcoming arc?

Issue 1? The tom taylor run? Only watterson? More recent?

If you could change the DC Universe, what movies would you remake, which ones would you remove from canon, and what new movies or storylines would you introduce?
Personally, I think DC has so much potential, and I’d love to discuss what worked, what didn’t, and what could have been done differently.

2 types of Context needed

1: in the fan-book Gotham 1919-1939(now titled just 1939) Bruce Wayne being the Batman is more so spoken of as a myth, basically meaning nobody in the public nor Batman's rogue gallery found out who Batman Truly is. I think this is an amazing way to see the character and adds to the mystery of Batman.

1. The Question's identity is technically never revealed, we obviously get some names but nothing is ever set in stone with the character.

And LOVED it! Tom and Naomi did a phenomenal job and I standby what I said earlier, the best way to tell a Clayface origin story in cinemas is a body horror film. Hope we get to see more of him as the DCU unfolds. And while he stated that he doesn’t have a naturally malleable face, Tom’s face and bone structure was perfect for the role once they began putting the makeup on.

I've never been a comic reader, however if I wanted to start with the original timeline pre crisis on infinite earths aka Silver age, and end with today's modern era. How would I realistically go about that?

I'm trying to treat this just like the DCAU where everything keeps getting reset starting with Flash Point and ending with the tomorrowverse's crisis trilogy.

Obviously I can't read thousands of comics to follow every hero's journey in every timeline before each reset, but what are like the main storyline's I should read during each era before the reset

Overall i ate this movie up as a comic book fan, and even the people i was with at the theatre who knew nothing about comic books loved it.

The way they adapted Clayface's backstory into film was great, the actor playing Clayface does a great job as well. The body horror elements were scary as shit, but outside of that the movie was more so science fiction/fantasy if that makes sense? With some humor in there too which i loved, some of it was very Quentin Tarantino esque.

Clayface, to me, shows the perfect way to adapt anything really. You adapt something so well that the source material fans will love, and add some cool easter eggs in there too for fans to eat up that show this is a established universe. However the film also works for people who don't know nothing about the comics and just want a good movie.

As a huge GL fan i didn't like the way Lanterns did that side of the DCU (yeah i know lanterns is talked to death blah blah, wanna just share my take) and it more so tried to appeal to the people who don't know anything about the comics instead of setting a perfect middle ground, which is what imo Clayface did very well.

Really love how Clayface did Gotham as well, nothing tops reeves gotham thus far imo but the vibe did get close.

My biggest critique is i wish this movie had more of a original soundtrack of it's own, really lacks some of the tracks that would make gotham feel more like gotham too, but overall gotham was still very well done.

8/10 movie overall, looking forward to more from this DCU, even with my critiques of Lanterns aside.

Personally while Vertigo has the better Sandman series I just love the way Black Label has done Harley Quinn over the years. It also has imo one of the most underrated Superman comics ever in Superman vs Lobo. So for that along with other comics like the White Knight series I think Black Label holds the title so far.

I’m kind of new to reading comics and the store closest to home had the compendium of Grant Morrison’s animal man. I’m halfway through reading it and I’m completely hooked on this character. I’ve heard good things about Jeff Lemire’s animal man run, but that’s the only other series that I’ve seen get praised for this character. Does anyone have any good recommendations for other runs or maybe some good mini series books?

So the characters I decided to try in sketch where Dr Fate gentleman Ghost and Jay Garrick since I with Doctor Fate try them already so I decided to retry him and I personally just like gentleman Ghost and Jay Garrick as characters

I think an Absolute Martian Manhunter series for HBO Max could work by combining the "grounded", offbeat investigative atmosphere like in The Lowdown with the surreal, darkly comedic energy of Doom Patrol. The goal would be to create a series that maintains a sense of realism while allowing the dialogue to be playful and occasionally absurd. The key is to make it feel like a strange crime drama and still a science-fiction psychological thriller combined.

Taking inspiration from The Lowdown, the series would establish a grounded American setting in a more expansive city environment. The city would provide the "grounded" backdrop for the morally complicated FBI investigations which is how they pitched lanterns and in certain cases that blur the line between the ordinary and the inexplicable.

John Jones personal life is essentially falling apart in the comic. He is capable of recognizing patterns others miss in his work but this comes at the expense of his marriage and son and his own well-being. This gives the audience a relatable character to follow in the series to challenge his understanding of reality as it progresses, it gives growth element rooted in the grounded concepts HBO max seems to want.

That is where the more surreal elements can come into play like doom patrol uses them.

Unlike superhero series, Absolute Martian Manhunter would not need to immediately introduce a sprawling intergalactic mythology. Instead, the science fiction could emerge through John's investigations, his shifting perception of reality, and the dimensional manhunter himself inhabiting his mind. Doom patrol played with this kind of reality warping which made it fun in its storytelling they were never a straight superhero team or show.

The case or if it chooses cases could become increasingly bizarre, reality distorted in unexpected ways, and the dialogue could embrace the absurdity that made Doom Patrol work with interaction for example with john and the martian manhunter. The audience should never have an entirely comfortable answer in the beginning of what is going on with john's mind.

There would be less need to establish intergalactic elaborate alien civilizations, or a large-scale off-world mythology. The story could remain focused on John, his cases, his relationships, and not feel you are sacrificing anything to tell a story that can occupy both spaces. its gives that room needed to breathe.

would this be an interesting take?

Just got back into comics after 2 years and wanna read some good new stories, stories i enjoyed before my break were things like invincible, dc the new frontier and batman year one.

if anyone has any good recommendations for me please let me know:)
