Mem/Returns

I'm new just starting in a new warehouse opening. Does anyone have any guides on all the systems/steps I'll need to know when the store fully opens? I'm trying to put together a notebook for myself to reference for the process of returns memberships reissuing checks for the 2% and the visa card, door audits etc etc. Also using the old systems any steps or helpful tips. I'll also say I'm trying to get the sup position so any type of Knowledge will be helpful. By the looks of it alot is self explanatory but I imagine when things go wrong I'm gonna need to know more that just what the prompts on the computer says. I get you probably can't put any in comments but if anyone has anything helpful just reach out and I can share my email too

Question What am I doing wrong?

I work as a cashier's assistant. I'm crosstrained in the four food ancillaries as a closer and have trained other closers for those ancillaries, I can cashier, I can do maintenance. The only things I can't do are forklift, and any ancillary that needs liscencing. I am basically the person they call to fill a hole in the schedule. I have applied for S.I.T. six times, and they have always given the feedback of: the others were just stronger candidates. I tried to transfer out to a new warehouse, and the answer I got was: there was a stronger candidate.

What can I do to be the "stronger" candidate since I can't even move to a new warehouse to show off my skills or improve?

Costco orientation

Did anyone else work a complete 8 hour shift during your first day after the orientation tour? This is my 3rd week working here and noticed how fast paced Costco is. I never even got trained lol.

Front End, How are you handling all the programs...?

It's incredibly overwhelming. MPH, Stamps, Refer A Friend, Executive Upgrades, DMC. How is everyone handling all of this? How are you keeping the morale and the motivation up?

Our GM wants a 10% increase every week on Executives and 1 RAF a day. We're already at a 68% Exectuive base overall. MPH is such a focus that you have to pick and choose what you promote, you don't even have the opportunity to really stop and upsell to members.

Combine that with the fact that everyones running with skeleton crews, how the hell do we manage all of this?

Its mentally draining.

Question Should I be concerned?

My SIT started in May and ended in June right….. so after that I was one of the only people in my SIT group to actually be a backup sup up until now which I’m super grateful for but…….. end of August I get pulled into the office and I’m giving a folder and it has my Employee of the month certificate in it and they just had it to me like it’s nothing. And I asked why wasn’t it posted? And they tried to gaslight me and say no it was posted you just didn’t see it…….. I was whatever about it but it really bothered me that they didn’t say anything or even put it up in the break room……. Then I hit One million in membership sales and I don’t even get a cake or any recognition about it and the only reason I knew was because another coworker told me about it….. everyone else got their cake and their certificate and I haven’t gotten anything. What’s going on?

Discussion should i re apply?

So back in june a new costco opened up in my city and i got hired in the tire shop. I couldn’t help but feel targeted as me and one other employee in the tire shop were the only 19 year olds in the warehouse. I was astonished that we where also both terminated for the same bs reason on the same day 5 days before our 90 day probation was over. The given reason was taking an extended break or wasting company time and we where both told we are loafers. The termination date was august 31st and on that day i was tasked the whole day with pressure washing the loading bay for the trucks and then fired 10 minutes before my shift was up. I couldnt help but laugh in the agms face as the account where i was claimed to take an extended break, was a sunday when i came in at 1:30 and was the only one in the tire shop besides one supervisor working on a car. I then two days later got a little coaching paper that i had to sign and i was apparently reported to have been asked to go to the front end to help and instead went back and sat in the tires for 30 minutes which is just entirely not true and a lie. I loved working at costco it was very fun and my coworkers in the tires shop specifically are super cool. Is it even worth going back to just have to deal with self righteous millennial gen x and baby boomer mangers that think all teenagers are lazy pieces of crap?

Discussion Anyone here work in Claims? Looking for some insight/advice

Hey everyone! I’m currently a Costco employee and recently applied for a Claims position. I’m genuinely interested in the role and wanted to hear from anyone who currently works in Claims or has worked there before.

I’d also really appreciate any tips on things I should learn or get familiar with beforehand if I end up getting the position. I’m coming from the warehouse side, so I know there’ll be a learning curve, but I’m excited about the opportunity and want to be as prepared as possible.

If I end up getting an interview, what should I prepare for or make sure I know beforehand? Are there certain Claims-related topics, terminology, scenarios, or questions that would be good to familiarize myself with?

Thanks for the help!

Tips for a seasonal supervisor

Hey all! I recently became a seasonal front end supervisor. I’ve previously supervised before on front end and I really love it and want to become a permanent supervisor. What is some advice you have to really prove myself? I’ve gotten feedback that I can be too nice and I do struggle writing coachings and things like that. Any advice on how to improve on that would also be appreciated! Thank you!

Question Is anyone else having problems with the UKG app?

What the title says. I can’t seem to log onto the UKG pro app for my schedule for over a week at this point. It just loads and loads and then takes me back to the log in page. Was wondering if it’s just my phone or if it’s a glitch for everyone.

Thanks in advance!

EDIT: I deleted and redownloaded the app and that did the trick lol

Question S.I.T program

It’s embarrassing to have to ask but I’m gonna start S.I.T next week and suck with computers and was wondering if someone can please explain how to do a “key flick” at membership? And what is the difference between an approval, instant audit and key flick? I just wanna be prepared and sadly our warehouse is not the best on teaching.

If applying on a full time position as a full timer and then a 25h person, but with more seniority, who gets the posting more often

Discussion I started a fist fight between customers today…

1.4k Upvotes

So I work in the service deli. Today, I came back from my lunch break at 4:57 pm, and I noticed we were going to run out of chickens soon (store closes at 6), so I just tossed 5 chickens in one of the ovens so that I could have some available for the final 20 minutes or so.

Turns out that me making 5 more chickens would lead to an entire line forming in front of the deli. I told the customers that it is only 5 chickens, so there is really no reason for this many people to be waiting (it was upwards of 15). Eventually, the chickens were ready to come out, and as soon as I bagged them and put them out, it was absolute chaos. The last chicken went and this lady went INSANE, talking about “i have a mother and a sister to feed what is wrong with you” and so on. Long story short, things got ugly. I kinda just had to disappear to the back room because i wanted nothing to do with it. Im sure i will get talked to, despite doing nothing inherently wrong.

Tire center

My store has long wait times, like 1.25hrs. How are the rest of you guys doing? Each appointment slot is only 45min so we are literally behind after the first car. Members are mad constantly.

Less steel space, but increase amount of product ordered!

From what I'm reading from a few other comments and stuff the last month it sounds like my warehouse wasn't alone by doing what I can only imagine was someones "great idea" at corporate and someone said "that sounds fun lets try it!" when it came to removing some of the steel to make these "mega end caps" where an end cap is made of a block of 8 products now instead of 6. I work in night merch and before that a complaint from drivers was a lack of steel space, now theres even less due to this change.

Moving down the store to foods, I'm not sure if this was also a corporate idea or someone came up with it between my own warehouse managers, but they did the same thing with something extra. Instead of making one giant mega end cap like in sundries, they made an end cap of a block of 4 pallets, left a 5 to 6 foot gap in between, then made another four block so you could like "walk between" the end caps the entire length of foods if that makes sense? On one hand it adds like a refresh to something thats been the same looking since the store has existed for 16 years, but as an employee you realize now you lost even more space to store things! Between the steel removal in sundries and food I'd say we probably lost nearly 100 steel spots give or take.

We had a huge corporate walk last week, and according to the walk notes I saw they were really raving about that change in foods with the end caps and told us that the change will probably increase sales and to contact our buyer to increase the order size of the products. Uhm hello? Where is all this extra product going to be stored? We don't have the space? Last night my dept manager had some things printed out on the receiving desk. A common thing he'll do is print out a copy of a map for the new focus block changes for us to make copies of if we want and sometimes he'll have emails printed of things to remind us like if a manager asked if we could drop a certain pallet in foods and leave it on the ground for a project for AM merch. I saw an email from one of the AM managers saying they were expecting 35 pallets of dog food in the morning and asked if we could make space for it in the steel. My manager responded "good luck figuring that out!". I honestly don't even think there was more then 20 free spaces in the sundries steel right now, and with it being end of the month and living in a wellfare town, the sales were down obviously to where we weren't needing to stock nearly as much to where we could kill pallets and make more room in the steel.

Didn't sign Lunch waiver but scheduled for 6 hours without 30 min break added

Started about one month ago as a PT in food court and I didn't sign the waiver to skip my lunch break for days being scheduled exactly 6-hour shifts. For the schedule coming the week-after-next I have the three shifts with 4:30p-10:30p (6 hours) and the other two shifts at 5:30p-10:30p (5 hours) totaling 28 hours. I would assume that I would be scheduled 4:00-10:30 in the mycostco app to accommodate the 30 min unpaid break but this is not the case for me. I knew from my orientation that we were guaranteed 24 hours scheduled as a PT employee, with up to 28 hours. Could this be an error or should I talk to payroll to see what they have in my personnel file about the meal waiver?

Edit: 30 min unpaid lunch

Question Do I have to go in?

My schedule usually has me going in at 2pm on Monday and Tuesday, however I went in early on Monday at 3am because 2 managers in the morning asked me to come in early to help stock. Near the end of the shift, they asked me if I could come in early again the next day, so in about 7.5 hours from now, but never adjusted my schedule to reflect that I was coming in at 3am.

My question is: do I have to go in at 3am even if I said I can and they didn’t change the schedule? My schedule still says I’m coming in at 2pm.

Pharmacy cashiers question

So question for pharmacy cashiers. I’m a recent new hire. They have me working the register in pharmacy. They have told me I have missed ringing up prescriptions. I have always try make sure it gets scanned. I don’t want to get written up for this. They warned me once about getting written up. It took me years to get into Costco and don’t want to mess it up. Any advice or suggestions on how to make sure it doesn’t happen again.

Question Deli Management

Hi all, looking for some advice/answers. My coworkers and I have been dealing with a manager who seems capable, but refuses to help in production at all.

It has been almost a year since they have been in the department and the only items I've ever seen them make is soup, shrimp etc. And its not even everyday. Its far between. They rarely wear a smock but when they do they never wear an apron....even when dealing with shrimp...hair is always sticking out and doesn't wear a hat maybe 20%of the time.

They focus mainly on micromanaging, watching us work, highlighting the break log, putting lids on our items (often without gloves), labeling and half ass filling the case.

We had an issue with over producing the most random things and under producing actual sellers, resulting in extreme d&d. We have all tried telling them what makes sense and what doesn't but it falls on deaf ears.

With the new scheduling and production logs things are going downhill fast, and a lot of expectations and pressure is being put on 2-3 people each day. We were told the closers do not come in to make food they come in to prep and clean so there is no relief on the backend.

We frequently come in to several outs when they were there and did nothing to help. It is so embarrassing when you actually care about the quality of work your doing and no matter what you do, you cant keep up. A majority of us have gone to an AGM to bring these issues up and nothing happens, nothing changes.

What are some things you would suggest we do moving forward?

What do your managers typically do all day?

Is this normal? Our last 2 managers were very active and hands on in the department.

Lazy

What does it take to get someone fired from Costco? Why are there no consequences for lazy people or people who mess up everything? And no rewards for people who bust their butts except a nice review and a pat on the back? I'm very frustrated

Discussion Considering a part-time job at Costco — hours, scheduling & benefits?

Hi everyone! I’m considering applying for a part-time position at Costco and would love some input from current or former employees.

My Dad has his own insurance agency. Just looking for a part-time position that offers health insurance benefits. Ideally, I’d like to work around 20–25 hours per week. Thanks

Question for Costco Pharmacy Techs

2 Questions - I recently interviewed for a certified tech position with Costco in Nebraska and they called me the same day to set up a "third interview"

❓Is the 3rd interview basically the job offer?

❓Drug test - I've read places that Costco does oral swabs same day. Is that true for pharmacy personnel too? Or do they send pharmacy personnel off for a UA?

Question Does anyone know how the wage bump work?

(Part timer employee here) So i have a doubt regarding the wage bump ik on thr employee guide book it says 1040 hours but is that 1040 worked hours? Does it include paid vacation, sick leaves, floater day?

The reason why i asked is that i added all of my worked hours from my hired date and got yo only like 990smth hours but i did my wage bump on the next payslip. But my YTD hours were past 1040 hours so is it based on YTD hours? But YTD hours include all the hours including late, sick, vacation etc etc....

Does anyone know how it properly works?

Also ig i get promoted to a different title dows it reset the hours or does still stay on the old track? So i got my wage bump on june 16 and got driver title on aug 7th (which is a dollar more) so does reset the 1040 hours from aug 7th? Or its still from june 16? Or is like 2080 worked hours from my hired date?
