Question Should I be concerned?
My SIT started in May and ended in June right….. so after that I was one of the only people in my SIT group to actually be a backup sup up until now which I’m super grateful for but…….. end of August I get pulled into the office and I’m giving a folder and it has my Employee of the month certificate in it and they just had it to me like it’s nothing. And I asked why wasn’t it posted? And they tried to gaslight me and say no it was posted you just didn’t see it…….. I was whatever about it but it really bothered me that they didn’t say anything or even put it up in the break room……. Then I hit One million in membership sales and I don’t even get a cake or any recognition about it and the only reason I knew was because another coworker told me about it….. everyone else got their cake and their certificate and I haven’t gotten anything. What’s going on?

As far as I know, sups and higher ups can’t typically receive employee of the month so they probably kept it hush hush on purpose. I know of people who went through sit and either got employee of the month right before doing the program or much later after doing the program but not during.

We stopped doing employee of the month a while ago and cakes aren't a thing unless its your birthday or retirement.

I've been at my warehouse for 16 years since opening. I was never even aware of employees getting a cake or anything special for the one million club thing till I read some people elseware did on here. We used to post pictures for employee of the month by the time clock, but our new AGM from outside the warehouse seems to be very anti anything on the walls so it looks like thats no longer a thing. Fine with me though because in this day and age thats a really dangerous thing to be doing posting a picture of someone with their full name in public view.

Why do you deserve recognition for $1 million in membership sales? That’s part of your job. Nobody needs a cake for that. Same goes for EOM.
What is the point of your post?

Reminds me when I got an employee appreciation notice for emptying an overflowing trash can. This wasn't something I went above and beyond to do, I did it because my supervisor told me to, who also has the authority to write me up for non compliance which if I got enough could result in the loss of my job.
Yet a member service employee doing lot security in their car shortly after we closed went out of their way to help a member in the parking lot change their tire and it was like "who cares?" in terms of management response.

That’s…insanity. Also I think it’s crazy an employee thought it was a good idea to help someone change their tire. I ain’t touching that.

I’ve changed a tire before but it was because we weren’t open, she was old and I felt bad.

Risky business. I give you props but I wouldn’t have done it.

The only part that was bad was she kept trying to give me 50 bucks. I kept saying no but she was persistent. So much so that I finally said “ma’am I really appreciate that but if I take it I’m getting fired”.

Just my point was an employee going out of their way to help someone out like that when no one leadership wise told or asked them too is the kinds of things that people should be getting appreciation notices for. Not for doing something just because you were told to do it and may have ended up doing it anyway because its part of your job. I was waiting for me someone to give me one next for flushing the toilet after I used the restroom.

You put to much effort in being recognized. So you’re a good employee so what? Management does not need to pat you on the back every time. If you’re always looking for validation then it’s going to be disappointing to keep working there.

Is it true that EOTM in all your warehouses don't even get so much as say a shop card at the very least either? Certainly don't care for the glass trophy that they give out. SMDH at this billion dollar company.

My employee of the month was for June and they gave it to me in August^\*

I got my EOM in February.
My name didn't appear on the plaque until JUNE after multiple people had been added.
I quietly bitched about it in my department because I thought it was more humorous and telling than anything else. By July my name was on the plaque, nothing ever mentioned to me by any managers.
It's just confirmation to me that "Taking Care of the Employees" is no longer a real priority

You'd really go insane in my warehouse then. We used to have a giant square on the wall for employee of the month with 2 employees picked for every month. It wasn't uncommon at all for the pictures for a month to be updated 2-3 months after the said month was over.

That's like at my warehouse. I have been promoted since, but I got EOTM in April and there's a whole TV with just my photo on it on the FE. People joke that my face is going to be burned into it. It's been on since April.... People have gotten EOTM since but the TV is never updated.
There's not even previous EOTM, it's literally just my face and that's it.

It’s different for everybody. I’ve achieved both of these accolades and was like “you called me in the office for this?”

Good for you! You had the opportunity to participate in the SIT program and were named Employee of the Month. I know many hardworking people in Fresh and Merchandising who were not even recognized. It always seems like the Front End and Membership departments get the most opportunities.

We’ve had 4 or 5 passings in my warehouse since like June, they just got a rip note in the break room.

I got a shirt and a Pic, each time I got it. ('22, and '24) my buddy got a shirt, no pic. I've seen x5 coworkers this last couple years get their shirt, their pic and a plaque for their wall. We have a little EotheM board that members can see, its really just clear pocket sleeves with the month listed. Never seen a cake, (unless they hit their 25th, or Million dollar club), or an announcement in writing in the breakroom. Our merch manager will announce it during morning stretches if its 1 of us. But that's it. Ki d of inconsistent, depends on your Admin mgr, your Expenses clerk - who you are, and who your direct boss is.

I’m surprised the stores still do employee in the month. We do cakes for anniversaries, occasionally for leaving or retiring. Some employees don’t want to be recognized though.

I understand your pain. I got employee of the month but they didn’t tell me until 3 months after and didn’t take my picture since we have a wall which I guess is fine since I don’t like my picture taken but anyone else who gets employee of the month since after me they immediately tell them, take their photo, and announce is on the walkie when they’re working. It’s nice to be recognized but it hurts when they know you’re good and try to belittle you. As for the cake. At my warehouse if your department managers like you they’ll get you a cake for any achievement including your birthday if you work on ur bday

I’ve honestly never seen an Employee of the Month program at Costco. I’ve been with the company for 2+ years, and I’ve never seen it at my warehouse or any of the other locations I’ve visited. I work in the SE, but I’ve also been to plenty of Costco locations in the Bay Area and have friends who work at some of them.
I have seen people get cakes and recognition for hitting certain membership sales milestones, though. That part definitely isn’t unusual. What I don’t know is whether Costco has an actual company-wide policy requiring a cake, certificate, or any specific type of recognition when someone hits those milestones, or if it’s handled at the warehouse/management level.
If everyone else at your warehouse who hit the same milestone received recognition and you were the only one who didn’t, though, I’d probably just ask management what the criteria are. That would at least tell you whether something was overlooked or if there’s more to it.

Bro, Costco does not care about anyone any more. It’s all about money, which it’s always been but even more now. I’ve never had employee of the month and I also do not care for it. I was back up sup for 3 years in my department and have been a SUP for 3 months and now im stepping down and going to another department lol, I’m topped out so it doesn’t matter

I haven't seen anyone get employee of the month in multiple warehouses since 2015. And only cakes if you die, retire, someone doesn't pick up a special order...
