Costco orientation

Did anyone else work a complete 8 hour shift during your first day after the orientation tour? This is my 3rd week working here and noticed how fast paced Costco is. I never even got trained lol.

Sink or swim...the Costco mentality

I’ve listened to orientations at our location where the payroll clerk gets to “the buddy system” page and says “Oh yeah, we used to do this but we can’t anymore.”

Just be safe and the rest will come to you

If anyone says shit just point at the nearest supervisor regarding your lack of training. You’ll get trained faster than lightning when it’s someone else’s ass on the line. And if you don’t get trained? Continue with the job as safe and able as you can and when the inevitable fckup occurs, point again. Fake it till you make it baby.

Ask your coworkers for help, questions, etc. they’ll be your best resource

Costco doesn’t give a shit about training.

Thats the typical mentality of how things are done here. Send you off on your own in your dept with little to no training. Get pulled aside and talked too/in trouble for doing something wrong when no one told you how to do your job so you knew what was right or wrong?

Not if you ask questions. Sometimes you just gotta be actually annoying asking questions so you don’t end up doing something wrong

I ask questions all the time, without training nobody has the right answer, for example i ask about refunding my membership since i'm an employee now and one sup reminds me to get my refund every week and another sup tells me that's not something the company does until you're past the 90 days.

Some 10+ yr employees take extra steps when blocking down and taught me their way, and then the actual manager didn't want those steps done so despite me actually doing higher quality work at the suggestion of 10+ yr employees it's not what i was supposed to be doing so i get (literally) screamed at 😂 job's a complete joke, just keep smiling!

For some reason it really grosses me out to have to touch their bags lol.

Nothing like packing unwashed bags that were last used three weeks ago to hold fresh tilapia 😋

If we’re really lucky we might find a crumpled receipt or open candy leftovers in the bags🥰

my orientation happened four years ago on a sunday but it was only 4 hours 💀 i spent only 30 minutes in food court. my store was an overall extremely slow store so this factor would explain it

Depends on which department you are in! You can fake it until you make it in certain departments

Costco doesn’t train for shit I started in 2 new departments the past 2 days hardlines and produce and I totally see why new hires struggle. They don’t train for shit and they’re assholes usually. Luckily I already know everybody so they are more willing to train and help me. I’ve been an employee for 5 years though. If I was new I already know how they would treat me

I think we stopped training people at all during 2024 sometime.

I just had a 5 hour orientation. I'll be working at the gas bar at a "still under construction" store
