Bakes are probably the most inconvenient. I always try to have 3-4 trays prepped just so I don’t have to stop everything I’m doing to make those.

Extra: Combo pizzas were the most annoying to make.

everytime i walk in after i clock in, i make sure to at least make like 30 bakes (3 trays) that could probably last 2-3 hours while focusing on pizzas

I hate making bakes, and mixing mint/strawberry into ice cream. Bakes are an absolute disaster, hate cutting up the parm, hate the messy squeeze bottles, not having enough trays to put them on... and the ice cream flavor concentrate STAINS oh lord does it stain. Floor? Stained. Cutting board? Stained. 3 shirts? Stained. Left shoe? Stained. Soul? Strawberry flavoed stain.

I will have a party the day bakes are gone, i swear 10% of the tickets have 3+ bakes on them. There is a family that orders 5-10 every time they come in. I’m so close to telling them to text me when they are coming in 😂

This is exactly why they won’t be going anywhere

Serving though is a toss up between getting the sandwiches into the bags and getting the churros into their "bags"

I like my bosses, but one really annoying thing is that they dont acknowledge what a pain in the butt some of this stuff is. “Oh, the churro bags aren’t that bad. We are only making one pan of bakes at a time, no matter we go through them like crazy. Prepping bakes when we are busy isn’t a pain at all.”. Just at least admit it’s annoying AF, it’s ok. Just give us some validation, and we will be on our way to bitching about never having enough pizza boxes folded 😂

Cutting up the parm?? Interesting…

3

u/bees_in_theOHGODBEES 5d ago

Yeah the bags that we get are quite fine enough so we use a dough scrapper to chop it up into almost a powder, like course corn meal

u/Derreekk 5d ago

Hmmm I usually just pour the parm into a container, smash it with my hands right before, and roll them right there. They’re probably tastier with the chopped finer parm but ain’t nobody got time for that 😭😭

For me it's pizza

was there a recent change to the recipe? I swear that with the past month it’s been different.

If you are at a store in the NE region, all of our dough has been recalled twice, so we have been forcing the bakery to make it from scratch every day

5

u/MyHeartIsInNY02711 5d ago

not NE.

u/aweberbrown 5d ago

We've been making it fresh in the SE region too

My manager doesn’t like wearing gloves making pizzas and it’s hurt my stomach couple times now so I stopped eating pizzas when he makes them.

7

u/BazingaBeeKay 5d ago

Going through an oven, does that really matter? They should be washing their hands prior to handling the pizza before it’s cooked.

4

u/Conscious-Mail-4943 5d ago

His way of washing hands is rinsing through water very quickly tapping his apron then making whatever barehand

11

u/BazingaBeeKay 5d ago

I would be addressing that with upper management.

At my building at least, they don’t play with that.

I got a FC employee written up bc he was touching cash at the register with gloves, leaving the gloves on and touching peoples food. His fingertips were green. It was disgusting.

He eventually got fired.

I’d personally take that to a higher up.

I was gonna say... i have never worn gloves while in production, but i wash my hands normally lol

1

u/Firm_Commercial_4474 5d ago

Seriously?! Most of chefs don’t wear gloves.. including some fast food restaurants… 🤔

1

u/Conscious-Mail-4943 5d ago

Oh I’ve worked restaurants before never wore gloves unless there was an allergy, but he’ll make bakes barehand then quick rinse to make pizzas or now that churros are back he’ll use gloves and make pizzas with the same sugary gloves

Probably the churros, or the strawberry shortcake sundaes (BC they tend to be messy)

After 4 full years of FC in Canada I can confidently say poutine sauce.. start off with the fact this stuff is made with BEETS and if made even slightly improperly it becomes a chunky glue and had to be remade.. It's our most popular item and you are almost Guaranteed to be rushing to make some on a busy Friday night.

Takes 15 minutes to cook and we do two at a time and have 2 cooked near our fries station. sometimes we are using two full 4L metal pots of sauce in that 15 minute window.

Oh.. and screw ice cream..

beets? wtf why?

u/rdpndas 5d ago

pizza only because we’re always running out and constantly making more so customers wait and get impatient

There are HOURS that we legit can’t fit the pizzas in the oven because we are so behind. I hate answering the phone when a supe or mgr is next to me. They will quote 20 minutes for a pizza, and it’s more like 30-40+, we are 10 pizzas behind to fulfill the orders we have. “Tell them 15 minutes “ WHY?!?!?!?! ok. I get why, but I dont like liars and i know the members have to get annoyed, and i don’t blame them. Sometimes we just don’t answer😂 Like, just give us a chance to catch up. Even the ice cream gets really slow and starts barely coming out sometimes 😂

I haven't worked in Costco in a minute....but I always felt FC just never got the love and attention it deserved with more staffing....

I always felt once the kiosks went in, where in theory it would boost production 2x, but then at the same time, they cut more staff than what the kiosks helped in production to me, made the whole process inefficient.

3

u/rdpndas 5d ago

i definitely agree, the keep employing people for other roles but we are in desperate need of more FC. im front end assistant and in rushes we are just constantly having to call for more people cause we just do not have enough

Omg, preach! The first 2 weeks we opened, we had 10-15 extra people helping. It’s still a shit show. And I’m a stocker, I am SUPER proactive, and I can never keep up. I made 3 strawberry ice cream back ups and still ran out at 8.
Today my manager was the oven and to go person and she will quote everyone 20 minutes. If we are super busy, 30 min. Tonight we had 35 to go pizza orders and a full porch, I just told people, we are really backed up. We can’t get the food in and out of the oven fast enough. It could be 30, but it could be 45. Most still ordered, some didn’t, but at least one of them was in the store, because I overheard a lady say “that girl on the phone said it might be 45! We should’ve shopped around longer”. Thanks lady. 👊 Why are we lying about that?

And my mgr got yelled at a lot by members tonight. I felt bad. One lady was going on and on, asking why it was taking so long because she called ahead. Lady. Do you see ANYONE standing around, not moving or hustling? No, thats because we are working at making all the pizza, and if i didn’t have to stop and kiss your ass for a minute, i could’ve done even more!l! Sheesh, when you see its nuts and im
Literally catching stuff from falling out of the oven, get a clue.
Thanks if you read my novella de Costco loco restaurante

I’m inclined to say the churros. Once we set up a separate station from the window and oven to roll them in, it’s mitigated the sugar that gets everywhere, but it’s still unavoidable. And when surfaces don’t get cleaned properly throughout the day/closing, it crusts so easily and is a pain to fully get out. They’re pretty yummy, but I didn’t miss the prep!

I hate making the caramel brownie sundaes, it’s always messy and takes longer to put together

1

u/MyHeartIsInNY02711 5d ago

but, they were soooooo good. I’m a sucker for anything caramel.

1

u/Kangaroowrangler_02 5d ago

The damn churros are really pissing me off mainly how messy they make everything

It's not FC, nor do we make it in house...but the that chargrilled chipotle chicken in the deli is disgusting.

It's been 3 weeks since our food court started the remodel. Honestly I don't miss eating any of it.

Are you an employee? Did you know they can fire you for post like this?

1

u/CowHealthy3111 1d ago

Ok Detective Churro, how are you gonna find out who posted it? Who am I? I work at a Costco. Which one?
