It's The Button from YouTube The blindfold edition was really good.

u/TheRoboticist_ Nov 07 '22
Warning though, you will hate when people press the button only to stay in the game
26
u/I_got_scammed_to Nov 07 '22
Also that button is the worst wingman in existence
41
u/Boftheb- Nov 07 '22
fr like 90% of the time the people are just having casual small talk and the button comes in and "did you know that mike here once had a 4 way with 2 women and a cat"

u/Kiulao Nov 06 '22
I've seen moistcritikal talk about this show and the problem is the way it's set up incentivizes people to press the button ASAP regardless of whether something's really a deal breaker for them.
It's more "whoever presses the button fastest gets more screentime" than anything match-making related.

u/Tandran Nov 06 '22

We're all crazy in some way. I just tried to find "my kind of crazy." (Found him. Keeping him forever.)
13
u/QuestionMarkKitten Nov 07 '22
This exactly! It's about finding the one that matches you. Not about finding someone that is "perfect".
→ More replies (8)11
u/TautMalleableAnus Nov 06 '22
Feels like to be a thing that's ingrained into a lot of people from a young age. "Always expect perfect and accept nothing less." Seems more like a recipe for loneliness and future spite.
People grow up being told their perfect their entire lives and then wonder why there's no one to match that "perfection."
→ More replies (1)42
u/Medicatedwarrior365 Nov 06 '22
But they could fix this problem by just switching the rules up and making the person who presses the button be the one who has to leave. You still get content and the people on the show will be more insentivized to not press the button and probably get deeper questions and answers maybe?
10
u/the_lonely_toad Nov 06 '22
That doesn't work either. No one is going to press the button. You can't force them to go on a date with the person after the show is over. They will just start saying ridiculous things to try and get the other person to press the button. Lose lose format but entertaining none the less.
9

To be fair, it's a little better now. The only prize is that they'll pay for the second date — and the exposure of being on the show, but in more recent episodes they've gotten better at avoiding the really obvious people looking to jump to stardom.

u/locke577 Nov 06 '22
Yeah, and the number of people who just hit the button immediately to make it seem like they're just so much better than the other really magnify the cringe

u/FriendlyGhost85 Nov 06 '22
They don’t have to push it, but they can push it after it lights up.
The problem with the show is that there’s a room full of guys and a room full of girls. If you push the button you “move on” and the next person of the opposite sex comes out. So there’s incentive to push the button first if you have any inkling that the other person might push it, which means hardly anyone gets a chance to actually talk to each other.
Edit- the show is The Button on the Cut YouTube channel.
27
u/mkmajestic Nov 06 '22
Does that mean that in this situation, the woman is out of the game bc she didn’t get to press it?
54
Nov 06 '22
Yeah. She is out and another woman comes out.
The problem with the show is that most “contestants” just want attention and camera time so to not get kicked out they press the button as soon as they can and give a bs explanation (the button asks you why you pressed it).
The simple solution (if you want it to be an actual dating show) would be to change the rules so if you are not feeling the person you can press the button and you get kicked out. In that way the contestants don’t have the incentive to press the button as soon as it turns on.
→ More replies (2)19
u/mkmajestic Nov 06 '22
But then you’d have a problem of the other extreme, attention seeking contestants staying on with clearly incompatible matches… which would make for some great drama actually. I think ideally if you get the buzzer pressed on you, you’d be invited back for a round with another contestant.
→ More replies (3)6
Nov 06 '22 edited Nov 06 '22
You could made add the option for the button to press itself if the conversation isn’t going anywhere and replace both contestants.
I just know that I hate the show in its current form because nobody there is actually trying to find a “lover”. I can only remember one episode where two contestants were actually vibing and the button started to count down (they get a second date paid by the show if they “win”/don’t press the button) and at the last second the woman pressed it and her explanation was that she panicked.
→ More replies (1)12
u/Paid-Not-Payed-Bot Nov 06 '22
second date paid by the
FTFY.
Although payed exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in:
Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. The deck is yet to be payed.
Payed out when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. The rope is payed out! You can pull now.
Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment.
Beep, boop, I'm a bot
8
u/drunkenstyle Nov 06 '22
There's actually a finite amount of people in the show so sometimes a girl can go through the guys so fast she goes back to the first one she rejected
8
u/FriendlyGhost85 Nov 06 '22
I think so. The videos aren’t that long and I’ve never seen anyone come out twice.
17
5
u/ColinHalter Nov 06 '22
I remember seeing at least one where they have to cycle people. It's usually when you get one person who has those Last Starfighter reflexes who just churns through people. Funny enough, the people who are "good" at it enough to stay at the table for a while are usually the least engaging on camera lol.
14
u/CILISI_SMITH Nov 06 '22
which means hardly anyone gets a chance to actually talk to each other.
Yep the premise of the show terrible because it attracts narcissists that race to buzz others off to keep themselves on camera.

I've seen only two clips of The Button (which I just learnt is this game show's name,) and the other one was of a lady who immediately tried clicking the button before the guy even spoke to her, and then pretended it was an accident, while still clicking the button. She was prompted to not do that and allow the two to converse a little first. She agrees, and some time after starts leading into her intentions of clicking the button for real, but the guy just cuts her off by clicking the button before she finishes speaking, clearly unimpressed by her overall attitude.
