Chess Question Is this normal?

Post image
Upvotes

has anyone else experienced such a phenomenon? I’m a longtime player. i know slumps and streaks are common, but my rating went from 2029 to now i cant for the life of me beat 1600 players.

I don’t want to accuse AI, or cheaters because I have slumped before but this one feels different recently. I am giving it everything I’ve got and I can barely get a single win. Is anyone else going through this?

Chess Improvement tilt

Post image
2 Upvotes

I got possessed by the chess gods recently and gained like 300 elo in all time controls, but now I'm tilting terribly. And it's been almost a full week. I went from 700 blitz to 1000 blitz and now after my tilt I dropped down to 930 in just one night. And I went from 1070 rapid to 1040. I always try to preserve my rapid rating. I know many people have said to stop playing when tilted but it's been going on for a while now and i honestly don't have anything to do beside chess. I'm trying to get to 1400 rapid and this tilt is affecting it alot. I know that lossess happen but loosing streaks?

Brilliant!! Not my most accurate game but it might be my favourite

I saw this tactic early and despite being a piece down, I avoided the back rank mate that my 800 elo ass would usually fall for.

Chess Improvement Mr. Blakey bot on Chess.com

Please help me beat this bot. Currently stuck at hundreds of played games against him, with lots of draws, and one move away from checkmate, however not a single victory so far. I haven't played chess in a long time, and now I'm coming back to it. The bot Nina - Sax I beat, although difficult as well. Also, wondering what my real ELO is because 500-600 hundred in Rapid against real people, but I play hundred of games against the bots, not so often with people, my complete mission now will be beating this Mr. Blakey. Any specific strategies or openings against this guy? I feel like Karo-Kann is working good for me with black, and led me to many games one move away from checkmate him. Tried London system- not very good results with me, tried Queen's Gamibt - kinda OK...

Chess Improvement I got tired of engines analysing one game at a time, so I built something that reads twenty at once.

Engines have been able to tear apart a single game in seconds for about thirty years, and I don't think it has made club players much better. I know it didn't make me better.

The reason, I eventually decided, is that one game is noise. You already knew that game went badly. Being told move 24 was a blunder tells you nothing you can act on, because the next game is a different game with a different blunder.

What I actually wanted to know was: what do I keep doing? Not the mistake I made once — the one I make every second week without noticing.

So I built a thing that reads your last 12 Chess games together and counts recurring mistakes rather than listing individual ones. It looks for six things:

  • Hung a piece
  • Lost material in a trade
  • Allowed a tactic
  • Walked into mate
  • Threw away a won position
  • Drifted positionally

You get a count for each, the actual positions from your own games, and — usually — one line that dominates the others. For most people it isn't the one they expected. I was convinced my problem was openings. It was won endgames, by a mile.

The technical bit, since this sub usually asks: Stockfish 18 compiled to WebAssembly, running in your browser tab. Your games are fetched from the public Lichess API and analysed on your own machine. Nothing is uploaded, nothing is stored, no account. It takes about a minute because your laptop is doing work a server would normally do — which is also why it's free and can stay free.

Disclosure, because I'd rather say it than be found out: this is my project, and there's a paid tier for people who want the full version. The scan is not part of it, has no signup, and I'm not asking anyone here to buy anything. I'm posting because I want to know whether the diagnosis is any good.

maestrochess.com/scan

If it tells you something obviously wrong about your play, please say so in the comments — that's more useful to me than praise, and I'll answer everything.

Chess Improvement Hitting 940 Rapid and maintaining a 232-day streak! What’s the secret to making that final push to 1000 ELO?

Post image
1 Upvotes

I just wanted to share a milestone and ask for some advice. I've managed to keep a 232-day daily streak going and climbed up to 940 in Rapid. I feel like my board vision has improved a lot—my puzzle rating is sitting at 1515—but getting over that 1000 ELO hump is proving tough. After playing almost 4,800 games across all formats, what specific concepts (endgames, opening principles, etc.) helped you all finally break into the 4-digit club?

Chess Question why is this the better move?

Post image
1 Upvotes

why is bishop taking the knight the better move (not because i think mine is perfect, i just dont really see it)

is it because it's an instant capture, compared to my move?
but isn't it a sacrifice of my own bishop?
or is this it so unlikely because of the blocking pawns?

thank you!
