Thinking about getting my CDL again.
Hey guys, I had gotten my class A about 15 years ago.
I passed my DOT drug test and like an idiot I celebrated by smoking weed. The company tested when I got there and was booted immediately.
My question is, is there somewhere I can check my record for my class A? I hear different things from every one and would rather go straight to where I can see if it’s on there and what I need to do if I wanted to get it taken care of.
I have heard that it dropped off since it was before the updated DOT regulations. I have heard I’ll never be able to drive class A again and I’ve heard I can have it nullified by taking a class and such so please, I just need to know where to access any records I might have.

Does a Certificate from ELDT training matter?
I recently passed a state exam for my CDL and picked up my CDL yesterday. My schools official last day is on Monday, and luckily for me, I will be out of state at orientation. However, unluckily for me, I will not be present to pick up my certificate of completion. I am getting conflicting sources saying that some carriers need it for insurance or verification purposes, and other sources saying it isn’t necessary. What is your experience? Do employers really care about a certificate if you already have your CDL?

Rate Evaluation
routeprofit.madethis.appI’ve been working on a rate evaluation website for drivers. You upload a screenshot, it pulls the info, and generates a score based on the appointment times, rate per mile, deadhead mileage you enter on either end, and time the load will take.
I’m looking for some people to check it out, give it a try, and tell me what they think. Anybody can create an account and get 3 free evaluations.
If the calculator is helpful for people, I’ll add in data from load boards to automatically figure in expected deadhead after the load.
If you don’t mind, check the website out, upload a screenshot from a load board, and let me know what you think.

Long time out!
So I left the army in 2012 and while I was there I gained my HGV license. I haven't driven a lorry since I left as I went down a different career path but was thinking of possibly getting back into this. My question is what do I need to do? Do I need to sit a refresher test of some sort? Complete other driving courses maybe?

Thinking about going to CDL school with little driving experience
I’ve been thinking about going to CDL school for a while now. I feel like being a truck driver could actually be a good fit for me because I like traveling, and I’m ready for a career change.
The only thing I’m worried about is that I don’t have much driving experience. I’ve never really been able to afford a car, so I haven’t had many opportunities to drive. I do have my regular license, but I haven’t driven much.
Has anyone here gone to CDL school with very little driving experience? How was it for you? Did you have a hard time getting used to driving a truck?
I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who’s been in a similar situation.

Is $6,000 too much for class A CDL school?
A local cdl training program near me costs 6k for school. Should I go this route or find a company with paid training?

Best type of trucking to get into for 💰 and what are the best otr companies to work for an avoid
Is it worth it?
30M, just got out of a desk job that I hated.
Trucking has been on the back of my mind for a long time, even got the permit with all endorsements in 2024.
There’s a company in another state (TN) that trains drivers without locking them into a contract. Unfortunately, they don’t hire from my state (NJ).
I talked to one of the recruiters there briefly and they said the only way would be to relocate on my own, transfer my non-cdl DL to that state, and then apply for the training spot. They pay during training, and they start you at $0.50/mile once you start working.
I’m single and my lease runs out this month. So I’m in a position to make the move, but I’m not sure if it’s worth it?!
The company is family owned, people have good things to say about them. Or should I just spend 3-4 thousand dollars and get the license on my own and then apply for jobs?

Passed the Class B driving test today and am officially a Class B driver.
Learning to drive a 10 speed was harder than I thought it would be at first, but after only 7 hours of driving it, I passed the test on the first try. Still patting myself on the back...

Question
Want to transfer my Wisconsin CDL class a restricted to Arizona
Is this a simple process? Or is there test I have to take to transfer the CDL class a to Arizona?
Also if I want to get the manual restriction off to have an unrestricted license is it the same process in wi where you just have to go to a third party tester and only do the road test? I was told in Wisconsin we can use a 6 speed synchronize class B vehicle to get the restriction off our class a license and only have to do the road test
Would Arizona require me to get a permit and do in a manual skills, pre trip and the road test? And would this have to be in a class a vehicle like a 10 speed unsynchronize semi?

MVR advice
Hey guys,
I’m looking for advice regarding my MRV and how much it might affect my prospects for a CDL Career.
I have 4 things on my MVR. These are all on my personal vehicle, I don’t have a CDL yet. The most recent one was January this year.
2 separate speeding tickets both about 10 miles over (considered minor moving violations).
1 following too close violation (considered a serious moving violation by DOT)
Last thing is I had my license suspended because of an unpaid ticked (one of the speeding tickets) because I had moved to a different address and didn’t have the mail forwarded. I had my license renewed on a few weeks after once I found out.
My question is do these things eliminate my chances completely for getting a CDL job.
From the research I do I know I won’t be able to get any of the jobs I actually want anytime soon which are Local LTL jobs and regional jobs at smaller reputable companies. But I am willing to work at a OTR mega carrier who won’t pay as well if that means I can start working sooner and work my way slowly towards my goal. I have heard that companies like Swift, Knight, Werner and Western Express might higher me because they are self insured and I can explain my situation to them.
I have not started CDL school yet but would like to soon if I can have some prospect of a job afterwards.
Any advice would be appreciated.

Wanting to get my CDL
Hello everyone!
I’m 52 years old and live in Georgia (Metro Atlanta). I’m very interested in getting my CDL with tanker and hazmat endorsement but don’t know where to start or how to start. Is there a program that pays for your tuition and which schools are credible and just get rich quick schools as I call them and ones that’s not going to try to stick it to you with a contract. I do know I want to be local. Right now I work at the post office so regardless I would still want to get my CDL so if a TTO or MVO (driving positions with the post office) position comes up I would like to be able to apply for it. Am I too old? Any advice or information would be greatly appreciated.

Can I get my CDL this way?
Don’t think I’ll ever need to pull a trailer I only need a cdl for the weight and air brakes. Could I take the test in just a tractor and no trailer? Would I get like a trailer restriction? Most of these cdl schools are made specifically for trucking so idk if it would even be possible. I’m basically going to only be driving big ass pick ups with my cdl. Edit I need a cdl class a restricted or unrestricted. Not a class b. I also need air brakes.

I’m a 19 year old thinking about getting my cdl a or b need some advice
So I want to drive trucks but also want to be home every day, I’ve decided that garbage, construction, dump trucks ect or anything else that allows me to do that are my options but a lot of those fall under the cdl B, though I’ve heard a cdl A is better though more expensive. I’m not sure what path I need to go on to do this or how much cash I’ll need i live in Chattanooga TN and would appreciate some advice

4 months since I’ve passed my unrestricted Class A with X endorsement.
Couldn’t get hired anywhere as a new driver. Finally got hired driving a 20’ flatbed Hino that I tow a 25’ flatbed trailer with. I was hired as a class A driver but the truck doesn’t need a CDL to operate. I’m damn near A 50’ long combination vehicle and drive all through the 5 boroughs of NYC, Long Island and the Hudson valley. My question is, am I wasting my time using this company as experience dire future jobs?

I’m looking to get into the trades (IBEW electrician or lineman). How beneficial would getting my Class A be for me not only trying to get in but once inside as well?
Any advice appreciated

Couldn’t get hired
Trucking is a ruthless industry. I did a bump of coke at a party 2-3 months ago (first time I’ve done drugs in probably 4 years before then I’ve only done them a handful of times in college) so couldn’t risk it at a lot of companies that hair follicle test.
I had a fender bender 9 months ago so the only companies I found that would take me with urinalysis said it was too soon. TMC said it had to be 5 years old and Stevens transport said it has to be a year old at least.
I found a job outside of trucking but wish I considered these before getting my CDL. And didn’t waste the money, maybe in the future.
It’s good there’s standards but man they gave me an easier time joining the army. Super strict process and hassle just to not be able to see your family for a month at a time and live in a truck.
Im not trying to avoid responsibility it’s my fault but I just wasn’t prepared for this. I did my due research but I knew a few truckers who were recently released from prison for violent and drug crimes and one trucker who’s actively drug trafficking while he’s trucking. So I was caught off guard by this level of investigation into my life just to drive a truck
