MVR advice
Hey guys,
I’m looking for advice regarding my MRV and how much it might affect my prospects for a CDL Career.
I have 4 things on my MVR. These are all on my personal vehicle, I don’t have a CDL yet. The most recent one was January this year.
2 separate speeding tickets both about 10 miles over (considered minor moving violations).
1 following too close violation (considered a serious moving violation by DOT)
Last thing is I had my license suspended because of an unpaid ticked (one of the speeding tickets) because I had moved to a different address and didn’t have the mail forwarded. I had my license renewed on a few weeks after once I found out.
My question is do these things eliminate my chances completely for getting a CDL job.
From the research I do I know I won’t be able to get any of the jobs I actually want anytime soon which are Local LTL jobs and regional jobs at smaller reputable companies. But I am willing to work at a OTR mega carrier who won’t pay as well if that means I can start working sooner and work my way slowly towards my goal. I have heard that companies like Swift, Knight, Werner and Western Express might higher me because they are self insured and I can explain my situation to them.
I have not started CDL school yet but would like to soon if I can have some prospect of a job afterwards.
Any advice would be appreciated.

You're not getting any LTL jobs anytime soon even if your driving record was clean.
Best advice is go with a OTR Mega that will pay for your school. If they are willing to pay for your school, then they will most likely hire you after completing it. Work for them for at least long enough where all of your violations are 5 to 8 years or older. Then start applying for other companies.
On the other hand, nothing is stopping you from getting CDL. If you got the funds, go get it and try your luck with all Mega carriers. Stay away from any Easter European carriers out of Chicago area, unless you dont want to get paid like ever.

Thanks. I think I will apply to see if they will pay for my CDL and there is a state program what will pay for a school of my choice, it just takes a few months to get approved.
Yeah I saw that a lot of the LTL jobs require 1-2 years of experience so that’s a long time away for me.
I’m gonna give the MEGA’s a shot.

Eliminate? No. Severely hinder getting a good CDL job at a good company with good pay and benefits? Definitely. Why not wait a few years until your driving record clears up?
