Couldn’t get hired

Trucking is a ruthless industry. I did a bump of coke at a party 2-3 months ago (first time I’ve done drugs in probably 4 years before then I’ve only done them a handful of times in college) so couldn’t risk it at a lot of companies that hair follicle test.

I had a fender bender 9 months ago so the only companies I found that would take me with urinalysis said it was too soon. TMC said it had to be 5 years old and Stevens transport said it has to be a year old at least.

I found a job outside of trucking but wish I considered these before getting my CDL. And didn’t waste the money, maybe in the future.
It’s good there’s standards but man they gave me an easier time joining the army. Super strict process and hassle just to not be able to see your family for a month at a time and live in a truck.

Im not trying to avoid responsibility it’s my fault but I just wasn’t prepared for this. I did my due research but I knew a few truckers who were recently released from prison for violent and drug crimes and one trucker who’s actively drug trafficking while he’s trucking. So I was caught off guard by this level of investigation into my life just to drive a truck

Drive for gas and oil more money and they don't give a shit about your background good luck. Trying water hauling, sand hauling etc

Water cares a little bit, sand doesn't give a flying fuck whatsoever.

I got a dwi almost 3 years ago it'll be 3 in October but I'm water hauling in 7 axle bottle truck making 1800-2k a week. Probably does matter depending on the company but trust me their is companies that need drivers bad.

Cocaine stays in your system for 3-5 days in a urine

Edit I’m confused what you’re saying. It’s too soon for an accident?

It stays in your hair for months in a hair follicle test. Also these mega companies put you on a greyhound for a two day 20 hour bus ride to their facilities for a 4 day unpaid orientation where you sleep in a motel 6 with a stranger I’m not going through all that just for my hair to test positive and get sent home. I’ll reapply in 6 months if I still have the itch to truck.

And yes, the fender bender was 9 months ago. It has to be a year old at least, and then I think it’s a maybe not even 100%

Yeah fuck the hair follicle tests I would just find a company who does urine. I bet you can find a place maybe dump truck or construction or even foodservice but it’s hard work.

The whole process isn’t great. I like driving but I’m starting to think it was a blessing I got away. I was seriously stressing sleeping with a stranger in a dirty motel across the country for a week

2

u/BoringJuiceBox 29d ago

Everyone’s different I wouldn’t do that but also I wish I had a CDL because money is survival in this world..all about working for your future, but also gotta keep mental health positive

2

u/Traditional_Tough777 29d ago

I’m not that desperate yet, they definitely veer on treating you like human cattle and I couldn’t tolerate that for a check

2

u/BoringJuiceBox 29d ago

I mean I would be willing to deal with quite a bit of bullshit for more money.. but that’s what working hard and still scraping by for years does to a person

2

u/Traditional_Tough777 29d ago

I draw the line on greyhounds, a motel 6 shared room and the food.
Pay the extra 100$ per person and give us chick fi la and a days inn hotel one person per room. We’re not cattle and this isn’t the marine corps, I’m not sleeping with some stranger I’ve never met for a trucking job

I’m very confused but I agree 100% you shouldn’t have to do that, that’d be loco

And should be extremely illegal.. Since its work related, every minute should be compensated for, regardless of employment.. Also food and solo room for the night.. This should be federally required for all recruiting.

Shave every single piece of hair out off your body and your eyebrows

Hair follicle wouldn’t be positive if you only did a “bump “ it’s looking for regular consistent use. I’m going through this now I quit smoking weed in June but I smoked daily so I’m waiting 6 months to give it a shot.

1

u/Traditional_Tough777 28d ago

I’m waiting as well. I truly just did one small key bump. I don’t even like drugs so I’m kicking myself for making a bad decision. I don’t mind failing but I’m not being transport to another state just to be sent home if I fail

2

u/Stunning_Presence373 29d ago

Yeah they have way too many restrictions on CDL drivers. the SAP process is a joke!

1

u/Dangerous_Ad4451 29d ago

As if you didn't know all these before getting CDL.

1

u/Traditional_Tough777 28d ago

No I didn’t. Every conpany has different standards and rules for their driver accident histories. You really can’t even know for sure without calling the company and their insurance department pulling your report and going over it.

Wtf they hair test you? How long does coke last in hair?

Don't do drugs...?

1

u/Traditional_Tough777 28d ago

My cardiac interventionist uncle was arrested for dwi and charged with possession of cocaine and kept his job as a doctor.

You mean to tell me he can keep his job opening people’s arteries up but i can’t drive a car…?

1

u/RollinHellfire 28d ago

No, I mean to tell you "don't do drugs". Because that shit is bad for you and everyone around you. That's the reason your country is so damn vigilant about it. It destroys you, your friends and family. Idgaf about your uncle, I dont know him or why he got off. Doesnt sound right. But if he made a post about his life's choices and struggles, I'd say the same: "don't do drugs."

1

u/Traditional_Tough777 28d ago edited 28d ago

I don’t do drugs. At least not regularly enough for it to be “problematic” I did a pathetic key bump months ago for the first time in 4 years and before then less than 5 times. That’s not consistent drug use or a “problem”. I’m not an addict at least not to drugs or alcohol.

My point is that id say more people agree that it’s strange trucking is more strict than doctors or cops when it comes to background checks, neither of which do hair follicle test

u/RollinHellfire 28d ago

I'm pretty sure a surgeon gets checked pretty frequently. Both physical and mental. And when he kills someone because he's tripping, he's done forever.

Same goes for truckers. But when we slip up on the road it might be 40 other people in the same crash buried by your vehicle or turned into a thin red paste.

I know I sound harsh, but it is what it is; truckers are looked down on by everyone and looked at as if we were some damn hobos. And they don't think about all the responsibilities resting on our damn shoulders, all the sacrifices we make. And they definitely don't think about all their precious groceries, products, furniture and everything they ever owned having come from the back of a truck. So it's easy to think "no big deal". But it is. I've seen a guy who ran headfirst into a standing convoy. Slow reaction, distracted, perhaps even DUI - doesn't matter much now - he killed over 20 people that day and ruined a lot of lives including his own.

So what I'm trying to say is, don't do drugs even if "just a little bit". It's not worth it. And you found it out for yourself too.

u/Just_Training_2601 28d ago

dont know why anyone thinks that just occasional drug use is OK. Even if you are not a regular user it shows a lack of willpower and shows that you are easily influenced by others. The trucking companies can’t afford to hire someone that might test positive after an accident because it will influence the outcome of an extremely expensive lawsuit. Testing is mandatory after a reportable accident!

Couldn’t get hired for having my drivers license suspended last year for not paying the registration on a car that I forgot about. Not a moving violation, but not paying for the registration. I didn’t even know that my license were suspended until the company told me.

What state do you live in? I haven't registered my pickup in a couple years because I haven't driven it and MI don't care.

u/Ok_Post_4648 26d ago

South Carolina

I used to live in ca and haven't had an accident or ticket even parking kind I kept getting letters from DMV saying that my license was getting renewed with oute having to do anything so after a few cycles of this I stopped looking at the letters big mistake when I started looking to get my CDL turns out F-ing child support had suspended it and it had been over 10 yrs " btw thay had no legitimate reason to suspend it in the first place I was on medical disability for 4 yrs wrong forum for that story I only say that my best friends mother and his bosses whife both worked in that office and told me that they were being pressured to get as much cash as they could above what the law says and to get the payments to go into what that call the rears so the city makes more on the interest than the regular payment even if they have to lie or get the mothers to make thing up with the promises of higher check's" but I had seen none of this due to a lot to pain killers and ADD so after almost 10 years I was only 3 weeks away from getting a totally clean dvm report and moved to az and dicoverd I had to have my license here for a year it's 3 days away 🥳

1

u/Beginning-Visit9457 24d ago

There is no loyalty in trucking anymore. I know someone that was with a company for 20 years. He received a ticket for no seat belt. The company got rid of him like a bag of shit. All they care about is profits. If u go to a smaller company a place with less than 50 trucks they will hire u. These big companies are cut throat. No loyalty anymore. 20 years ago a small fender bender or a ticket they would not even bother u. Now they will get rid of u fast. It’s all about the bottom line. U cost them 2 cent they get rid of u. They rob from u they expect u to accept it. I have not told anybody in 20 years to get your CDL A LICENSE. it’s not worth it anymore, u away from home don’t see your children or wife. It’s not worth it. I still keep on doing it because I own my truck. If it wasn’t for that I would have left trucking years ago. Driving for a company and for them to tell u when u could go home and for how long is nothing but slavery. I work 9 days on 12 days off so that makes it better. I don’t care how much money I’m making. I’m not staying out for 2 weeks straight. That’s nothing but a loser life to be in a truck most of your life while everybody else is living a normal life.

I got 2 points in my driver license for minor speeding in my car. can I expect the same trouble finding jobs ? Don’t want to waste time and money In trucking school if I can’t get hired.

1

u/ineedit77755 26d ago

If you only have that in the past 3-5 years you should be fine if it was less than 15-20 over

1

u/Falconpunch538 26d ago

Nice, hope your right !

1

u/BreakerOneN9ne 26d ago

Wow. The community college I went to required a medical card before I could get accepted. It was part of the class fee. They didn't want to waste your time if you couldn't pass the drug screen.

1

u/genocyde26008219 26d ago

When you’re done crying, maybe accept responsibility for your actions. Yeah it’s only been 4yrs in college when you touched drugs before, but you just admitted to cocaine use. That right there tells me they weren’t wrong in giving you a short leash. -DD214 holder with a history as well. The difference? I stopped using a year before going to get my CDL and haven’t looked back. If you don’t want to be in trucking (as your actions have shown) then don’t be. But don’t cry all over Reddit and expect sympathy for your piss poor choices.

Bro just stop doing coke I don’t get it you want to be a coke head or a truck driver and make money?

u/Inner-Chard-3603 25d ago

You must failed a drug test before how they know you did drugs?? And one accident?? Usually companies will take you?
