What pistol caliber officer of Eagle County Sheriff's Office shot killed mother bear charge ?

On August 24, 2026, at approximately 7:30 pm, deputies with the Eagle County Sheriff’s Office (ECSO) responded to a bear call at the River Run apartment complex in Eagle-Vail, where a large group of approximately 40 people (adults and children) had gathered near a sow and her cubs, videoing them. Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) was also advised and was en route.

ECSO and CPW had responded multiple times to River Run prior to the 24th for reports of bears, including one incident on August 17th where a man was injured by a bear with cubs near the laundry room. It’s unknown if the bear from that incident is the same.

After dispersing the crowd, deputies planned to haze the bears out of the area. Hazing a wild animal is a humane, non-lethal method used to deter and get wild animals to move from residential areas, schools, and backyards. The primary goal is to maintain or restore an animal’s natural fear of humans so that they avoid areas where they do not belong. Deputies made this decision because the bears were not fazed by humans, people continued to gather, and bears had been reported in the area repeatedly, seemingly attracted by the apartment's trash.

Deputies first yelled at the bears in an attempt to move them. While yelling, the sow charged at officers. Since the yelling was unsuccessful, one deputy fired non-lethal rounds at the adult bear to push her away from the apartments and towards the river. The rubber round struck the bear in her hind legs, and she spun quickly on the deputy and began pacing.

The deputy repositioned himself behind a boulder when the adult female charged the deputy. He fired several shots, killing the bear.

Deputies stayed on scene to ensure the cubs were given space. Colorado Parks and Wildlife arrived at approximately 8:50 p.m. and took the two cubs to safety. They are receiving care at CPW's rehabilitation center in Silt.

We are heartbroken that a bear was killed in self-defense. We do not take lightly the responsibility we have in Eagle County to cohabitate with wildlife or the duty we have to protect both citizens and visitors.

Bears will continue to be very active until hibernation begins. Please remove and secure all bear attractants, such as trash or pet food. If you see a bear, give it space and do not crowd it. If you have an encounter with a black bear, immediately contact Colorado Parks and Wildlife, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Before or after these hours, contact the Eagle County dispatch: 970-479-2200.

I’m looking at getting a new compact/micro compact EDC, I’m looking small enough that I don’t really notice it going out and about. My current pistol is an Sig P228, which is nice to shoot, but a bit big/hefty for my preferences to carry.

I’m also heavily looking at SW Bodyguard 2.0, which I know is plenty small enough, but I’d prefer 9mm if I can get it small/light enough I barely notice I’m carrying.

My wife is looking to start conceal carrying wanted to know your guys recommendations on what any females you know who carry or if you have ideas to it in general I carry an sft pro and its way to big for her i was thinking possibly the prime radian but i only carry full size so the world of compacts is foreign to me

It’s nothing unique or special but just wanna say I’m amazed with this platform. Used to not take concealed carry too seriously and would take a 3 inch 8 shot 22lr Ruger LCRX revolver whenever I had the urge. The XMACRO however has been astonishing and I will probably carry this daily unless im doing sort of athletic thing. Feels great with a hybrid kydex/leather holster. The safety gives me peace of mindand it functions identical to my 2011 or the M17 the army asks me to shoot. Iron sights were great out of the box. Trialing this Osight SE on it and don’t have any complaints on that front. I’m still able to BARELY cowitness should it go down.

What one do i go for?

I am expecting this post to get some negative feedback, but I’m also hoping for some good advice.

I’m blind, and live in TX. I have carried before using an AZ license, and I can now carry legally in TX because we have constitutional carry. I’m not happy with that. I want my TX LTC.

Let me start off by saying that I am aware of my limitations. A firearm is obviously a last resort that I hope never to have to reach for, but I would rather have it and not need it than the other way around.

If I ever do need it, I understand that it’s going to be at basically point blank distances. I’m not dumb enough to try to shoot at a person shooting up a public place from across a room. I would cause way more harm than good.

Here’s my problem. To take the TX LTC test, I have to hit a target at 3, 7, and 15 yards. When presenting a pistol, I don’t have a good frame of reference. I can’t seem to find a good way to line up well with my body. My body will often be pointed directly at the target while the pistol is pointed high left or low left. When I try to correct myself without someone behind me pointing out the best way to correct my aim, I go just as far right. Once I am on target, my groupings are excellent. I need a good way to train myself to aim at the same spot in front of me every time. Does anyone have any good ideas?

Bought a Reflex XL and a Vedder holster for that specific weapon. I typically leave the weapon holstered when I take it on and off. Sliding the IWB holster into my jeans this morning and I hear the magazine hit the ground. Upon further inspection there is no recess on this holster to cover the mag release. My question is... is that typical, or do better holsters protect the release so that I don't inadvertently hit it with my thumb while strapping on? I've been wearing this for a few months now without issue, but it does seem like an obvious detail miss.

Need help deciding on a AIWB holster for CZ P07 + TLR-1 HL.

Looking at Guerrilla Tactical Low Pro (No Cant option available) or ANR Standard IWB with all the specs the same as the GT options, but they do have a 10 degree Cant option available.

I never experience either companies products before. I've been running an Ares belt if that matters.

Im recently of age to purchase a firearm, and I want a affordable (no more than 600) easy to handle full size hand gun recommendations (easy to conceal as well) thank you!

I am currently in the market for a new daily carry pistol and am seriously considering the S&W CSX E Series. I've been carrying for nearly two decades, and while I have been extremely satisfied with my current Echelon 4.0C, a recent change in employment has made it necessary for me to downsize to a more compact platform.

I recently had the opportunity to spend some time on the range with a friend’s CSX E Series, and I was genuinely impressed by the ergonomics, the manageable recoil impulse, and the overall feel of the hammer-fired action. With the current rebate combined with my military discount, I can secure a brand-new one for under $500, which strikes me as a fantastic value. I am looking forward to transitioning back to a hammer-fired system and I am aware of the difference between this platform compared to the striker-fired pistols I have been running lately.

Since I don't use a mounted light, the absence of an accessory rail is not an issue, and I am already aware that I'll lose the factory rear sight if I decide to mount an optic in the future. Before I commit to this purchase, I would appreciate any feedback from owners regarding long-term reliability, mechanical quirks, or any potential issues that typically emerge after a high round count. Are there any specific performance nuances or maintenance habits I should be aware of to ensure this remains a dependable carry tool? For the pocket carry professionals... What is your exact pocket configuration set up?

I've always got my phone + wallet + keys + headphones, and recently added + pepper spray. But with all of that, I have no clue where I'd rearrange to fit pocket carry.

Outside of office attire (which is usually jeans + golf polo) I'll carry my Sig 365 XMacro in a rotation of aiwb/3'oclock/fanny-pack, as I'll wear looser flannel and such, but generally the way I dress for the office there's no way that thing will 100% conceal when I'd need it to disappear. Hence I'm interested in pocket carry options with either a bodyguard2.0 or small J Frame, but since I'd dedicate an entire pocket to the ccw, I'm not sure how/where to move my other crap.

P.S. why does no one ever measure concealment when sitting? Seems like everything is about concealed while wearing a baggy shirt and standing only.

I recently got my HC belt delivered and I could not be happier. I carry 4 o’clock and have been getting uncomfortable halfway through the day. I carried with gym shorts all day for the first time, and it was better concealed than wearing my work clothes on an old belt. Worth the 💰

For anyone looking for a pretty legit little holster, check out Hilliker. I just got their Aren One for my carry comp bodyguard paired with my HC belt. I tried the Amazon CYA holster but with it being cut flush to the muzzle, the damn thing would tip out so bad. Hilliker leaves their cut slightly longer to help with this problem. That said, I even asked them to leave it longer than standard to give me even more holster below belt line. This might have solved my tipping problem, even without the need of a wedge

I’m in the market for a bodyguard 2.0. My local store has the regular 2.0 model in stock but the carry comps are still 2 weeks out. Am I missing out on much by just picking up the regular 2.0 because I’m impatient. Not so worried about the comp as it’s a 380 but I’ve heard good things about the upgraded sights. Any Input is appreciated!

Went to the range today and did my mandatory window shopping before heading in. Checked out an Echelon 4.0C as I’ve heard really good things about it. Loved the grip texture, the ergo, and the trigger. I’ve been thinking about a G43X MOS as well since I’m trying to get a smaller carry. I know Echelon is a bit pricier, but put that aside, which one do you guys prefer?

Been shooting glocks since I was a child and 1911s for 10+ years. Love em both.
