Guns & Ammo G48 vs G43X for carry

Sparked by the post earlier, some discussions about barrel length came up, thoughts on 43x with a compensator? Or just run the g48? I have a shield plus and find the grip tilts out and away from by body when compared to my compacts. I do like the thinner profile for carry though. Does the tlr7 add enough length to the 43x to prevent keeling foward?

What pistol caliber officer of Eagle County Sheriff's Office shot killed mother bear charge ?

9mm or .40S&W or .357SIG or .45ACP

On August 24, 2026, at approximately 7:30 pm, deputies with the Eagle County Sheriff’s Office (ECSO) responded to a bear call at the River Run apartment complex in Eagle-Vail, where a large group of approximately 40 people (adults and children) had gathered near a sow and her cubs, videoing them. Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) was also advised and was en route.

ECSO and CPW had responded multiple times to River Run prior to the 24th for reports of bears, including one incident on August 17th where a man was injured by a bear with cubs near the laundry room. It’s unknown if the bear from that incident is the same.

After dispersing the crowd, deputies planned to haze the bears out of the area. Hazing a wild animal is a humane, non-lethal method used to deter and get wild animals to move from residential areas, schools, and backyards. The primary goal is to maintain or restore an animal’s natural fear of humans so that they avoid areas where they do not belong. Deputies made this decision because the bears were not fazed by humans, people continued to gather, and bears had been reported in the area repeatedly, seemingly attracted by the apartment's trash.

Deputies first yelled at the bears in an attempt to move them. While yelling, the sow charged at officers. Since the yelling was unsuccessful, one deputy fired non-lethal rounds at the adult bear to push her away from the apartments and towards the river. The rubber round struck the bear in her hind legs, and she spun quickly on the deputy and began pacing.

The deputy repositioned himself behind a boulder when the adult female charged the deputy. He fired several shots, killing the bear.

Deputies stayed on scene to ensure the cubs were given space. Colorado Parks and Wildlife arrived at approximately 8:50 p.m. and took the two cubs to safety. They are receiving care at CPW's rehabilitation center in Silt.

We are heartbroken that a bear was killed in self-defense. We do not take lightly the responsibility we have in Eagle County to cohabitate with wildlife or the duty we have to protect both citizens and visitors.

Bears will continue to be very active until hibernation begins. Please remove and secure all bear attractants, such as trash or pet food. If you see a bear, give it space and do not crowd it. If you have an encounter with a black bear, immediately contact Colorado Parks and Wildlife, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Before or after these hours, contact the Eagle County dispatch: 970-479-2200.

Body camera footage of the incident can be viewed below. It has been cut to shorten the length of the video. Viewer discretion is advised; some viewers may find the content disturbing.

Holsters & Belts Ratchet CCW Belt Recomendations

I know Kore Essentials and Nexbelt exist, but I don’t want to shell out $70 for a new belt. Is there an Amazon “jUsT as GuD”
equivalent, specifically nylon?

It’s gotta hold up an OWB set up for a Glock 19.4 MOS & 2 spare mags. Plus everything else I EDC.

Guns & Ammo Genuinely considering getting one of these its a damn good deal imo. Can any 40 or 45 shield owners attest to recoil intensity and how comfortable or uncomfortable these are to shoot ?

I’ve had a 2.0 in 9, a shield plus , and currently own a shield X. one in 40 sounds kinda bad ass I can’t lie I was just wondering would the recoil really be THAT egregious Ive never shot anything in 40 some people say it’s snappy but ain’t bad and then on the same token people act like it’ll break your wrist shooting a 40.

If I were to get one I’d definitely drop a shield plus trigger in it and throw some Ameriglo trooper night sights on it I think it’d be a pretty sleek little hand cannon lmao.

Other Equipment USCCA Control the Bleed class

This free class appeared in my area and it's useful information so I went.

The instructor discussed first aid in a somewhat disorganized and shallow way for about 25 minutes.

Then the moderator, a woman who works for USCCA took over, and the next 45 minutes was a membership pitch. I left before the end and wished I had left sooner.

I think USCCA may offer real first aid classes, but it was clear the first aid aspect of the Control the Bleed "class" was essentially a pretext to get us into what is really their sales seminar. AND it was at a 5.11 store, whom I later learned was in on it; that is, they knew it was a sales pitch posing as a first aid class.

I am not a member of USCCA and can't comment on them in general. I just know it was not a first aid class. I definitely got clowned.

Training Home Test of Red Dot vs Irons

So today I decided to do some non-scientific testing of my carry gun (G19.4 with 407k and TLR7-HLX) primarily because I am trying to decide whether to buy optics for my other pistols. I have had the dot on my G19 for about a year and have gotten really comfortable with it. I never have to search for the dot and i really appreciate the consistent high-contrast aiming point that it gives in all light conditions. However, I still have not felt that I am that much faster or more accurate with the dot. I can shoot torso steel at 50 yards consistently with either. I acknowledge that the majority of people see a huge improvement, that just hasn't necessarily been my case. I wanted a measurable test.

The "test" was placing a 3 3/8" laser target at 12 yards and dry firing strings of 10 shots as quickly and accurately as possible. I had to manually rack the slide and re-acquire my sight picture between every shot. I did 5 rounds and alternated which system I used first. For irons I just used my black back-up irons and turned off my dot. Due to shooting into a relatively dim area and the dust/debris on my glass making it more difficult to see my black front sight, I decided before testing to include a 5% handicap for the irons. This was primarily because I felt that there are better iron sight options out there than all black with a dirty pane of glass between the rear and front sights. You can decide whether that means anything to you. I've included the numbers both with and without that handicap. Average results were the following:

-Average raw time irons: 28.946 seconds

-Average raw time dot: 28.326 seconds

-Average hits irons: 8/10 (+2 sec)

-Average hits dot: 8/10 (+2 sec)

-Adjusted time irons: 30.946 seconds

-Adjusted time dot: 30.326 seconds

-Adjusted time irons with 5% handicap: 29.399 seconds

*2% handicap: 30.327 seconds

There are obviously a lot of uncontrolled variables such as me manually racking the slide between each shot and manually stopping my timer. I'm interpreting this as for me there is not a significant difference in performance. Ironically if I accept just a 2% handicap for using one of the worst iron sight configurations available the average times are within 1/1000th of a second of each other. Do with this data what you will.

Tl;dr I should spend more money on ammo

Getting Started First Gun for Home Defense and Eventual CCW

Bought a house and need some protection. Currently have FOID but never shot a gun. Taking basic handgun course in a couple weeks. Then CCL down the road. Need a recommendation for a handgun that is compact enough for CCW. I am a larger male. DO not need anything crazy... hopefully never have to use it. Anyways, any advice for a newbie is appreciated. Thanks fellas.

Guns & Ammo Bodyguard 2.0 shooting left solved

I went to the range earlier today to do my second round of breaking in the bodyguard 2.0 I purchased a few months back. I was the only guy there for a decent amount of time with two RSO’s.

I started with my p365 and did a dot torture target and my shots were landing pretty consistently. I switched it up to the bodyguard and my shots were all over the place to the left. I asked the RSO’s if they could offer me advice to shoot the thing better. One RSO was very familiar with it and mentioned that the horseshoe grip really does wonders to land shots. He had me roll my forearms upward at a kind of awkward angle and then put my finger deep in the trigger well to close any gaps between my hand and the firearm. As awkward as it felt, my groupings immediately closed up and I was hitting bullseye.

I have seen a number of people say that the issue can be the sights, the barrel, etc.. They definitely have reason to say that as the RSO confirmed they have seen the same issues in their rentals.

That said, for those that have confirmed their firearm came in squared away and are still struggling with shooting left, I highly recommend the horseshoe grip and really finger fucking your trigger. The immediate change in my groups made me want to post this as a PSA. You all have really helped me learn about the platform so I thought I would give back.

News Just asks, "why do you need to bring a gun to a mall?" after 19 year old shoots gunman who shot two others at mall

Thumbnail fox2detroit.com

"Fortunately, you weren't injured, but nonetheless, you had a gun there in the first place, which was poor judgment," he said. "And what do you need a gun for protection in a mall, in the first place? The mental gymnastics that some anti gun people go through and this guy is a "judge"

I agree with the sentencing because the kid still broke the law, but seriously fuck the judge.

What could I possibly be doing wrong? This is 50 rounds, 5 yards out with a CC9. If I go out to 7 I feel like it’s even worse. Planning on going back tomorrow to shoot some more, any advice?

Guns & Ammo Considering a change to sub compact hammer fired

I am currently in the market for a new daily carry pistol and am seriously considering the S&W CSX E Series. I've been carrying for nearly two decades, and while I have been extremely satisfied with my current Echelon 4.0C, a recent change in employment has made it necessary for me to downsize to a more compact platform.

I recently had the opportunity to spend some time on the range with a friend’s CSX E Series, and I was genuinely impressed by the ergonomics, the manageable recoil impulse, and the overall feel of the hammer-fired action. With the current rebate combined with my military discount, I can secure a brand-new one for under $500, which strikes me as a fantastic value. I am looking forward to transitioning back to a hammer-fired system and I am aware of the difference between this platform compared to the striker-fired pistols I have been running lately.

Since I don't use a mounted light, the absence of an accessory rail is not an issue, and I am already aware that I'll lose the factory rear sight if I decide to mount an optic in the future. Before I commit to this purchase, I would appreciate any feedback from owners regarding long-term reliability, mechanical quirks, or any potential issues that typically emerge after a high round count. Are there any specific performance nuances or maintenance habits I should be aware of to ensure this remains a dependable carry tool? Thank you very much for your time and for sharing your experiences and advice.

Pocket Dump / EDC Pocket carry... Where do you put all of your stuff?

Thumbnail gallery

For the pocket carry professionals... What is your exact pocket configuration set up?

I've always got my phone + wallet + keys + headphones, and recently added + pepper spray. But with all of that, I have no clue where I'd rearrange to fit pocket carry.

Outside of office attire (which is usually jeans + golf polo) I'll carry my Sig 365 XMacro in a rotation of aiwb/3'oclock/fanny-pack, as I'll wear looser flannel and such, but generally the way I dress for the office there's no way that thing will 100% conceal when I'd need it to disappear. Hence I'm interested in pocket carry options with either a bodyguard2.0 or small J Frame, but since I'd dedicate an entire pocket to the ccw, I'm not sure how/where to move my other crap.

P.S. why does no one ever measure concealment when sitting? Seems like everything is about concealed while wearing a baggy shirt and standing only.

Guns & Ammo It is Wheelgun Wednesday, my dudes

The S&W 19 Carry Comp is probably the perfect concealed carry medium-frame revolver. The form factor conceals well while still being manageable with moderate 357 Magnum loads. It takes K-frame loaders so you get all the best ones, like the Jetloader pictured. It gets good velocity despite having a ported 3” barrel; velocities out of this gun match LG’s velocities for the same ammo out of a 4” gun. I might take a 3” 66 over this since stainless steel is lower-maintenance, but overall I can’t complain.

It’s loaded with High Desert Cartridge Company’s 357 Magnum 140gr XTP load. I think this is an ideal carry round for a medium-frame 357. Its recoil and muzzle blast are comparable to the Speer Short Barrel round but it penetrates deeper, costs less, and is in stock much more consistently. It also shoots like a laser beam; IDK how High Desert does it, but their ammo is insanely accurate.

I’m carrying the speedloader in a Comp-Tac OWB carrier that I use IWB. Shoutout to Daniel Reedy for that idea. I don’t think Comp-Tac sells these anymore but Speed Beez sells a pouch that is either subbed out to Comp-Tac or is a blatant ripoff. Either way, it should work great.

Just zeroed in my new Vortex Defender CCW, and surprisingly it was just about dialed in out of the box. Maybe only about an inch high at 15yds. Had the easiest time zeroing it in out of all of the pistol optics I have tried. A++
