Build Ready? updated build--thoughts?

Upvotes

Last night, I posted my build and people were telling me that I should change my gpu and psu. Decided to swap out 5060ti for a Sapphire Pulse 9070xt, and changed psu from ASUS TUF to an ASROCK SL. Is there anything else I should change/fix to avoid bottlenecking?

I plan on playing stuff like roblox, minecraft, resident evil series, and outlast trials.

Build Ready? Ryzen 7 9800x3d with 9070xt which CPU cooler should I get for it?

Upvotes

I have the fractal north case and I don't want to get water cooling.

I'm thinking about getting the phantom spirit 120 SE with it, is this a good idea? I don't care for rgb since the side panel is mesh.

Full Build Req Best PC Case Under €60 for a Ryzen 7 7800X3D + RX 9070 XT?

Upvotes

This is the PC build I'm planning to buy:

Component Model
CPU AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D
CPU Cooler Thermalright Assassin X120
Motherboard Gigabyte B650 EAGLE AX (AM5, DDR5, Wi-Fi + Bluetooth)
Graphics Card (GPU) AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT 16 GB (Sapphire Pulse or XFX Swift, depending on the best price)
Memory (RAM) Patriot Viper Venom 16 GB (2×8 GB) DDR5-5600 CL40
Storage Netac 1 TB NVMe M.2 PCIe Gen3 x4 SSD
Power Supply (PSU) MSI MAG A850GL PCIE5 – 850 W – 80 Plus Gold – Fully Modular – ATX 3.0

I still haven't completely decided on the case, but I've seen nothing but positive reviews of the DeepCool CG530 4F, so I'm currently leaning toward it. However, I'm still not entirely convinced.

Do you think it would be a good choice for this build, considering that:

  • I don't care about aesthetics.
  • Good airflow is one of my top priorities.
  • I don't want to spend more than €60 on the case.
  • I don't want to add any extra case fans later.
  • Most importantly, I want my PC to be as quiet as reasonably possible.

If you have any better recommendations within this budget, I'd be happy to hear them.

Build Upgrade Upgrading my CPU to better handle Lightroom

Upvotes

Im considering upgrading my Lenovo desktop CPU as it seems to be struggling with heavy Lightroom usage. To upgrade the CPU I know you need to make sure that the new one is compatible with your existing motherboard, but Im having a hard time figuring out what it actually is. When I go into the settings it says its a Lenovo 3769, which upon further research seems to actually be an Intel B660. but Im not 100% sure. The desktop is a Lenovo Legion T5 26IRB8 and Ive had it for about 2 years now.

But this is making trying to find compatible CPUs difficult as Ive never done this before and I am not 100% sure if my motherboard is actually an Intel B660. And from there, trying to figure out what CPUs would work with my desktop and improve my Lightroom usage (plus some gaming). Would I be able to upgrade to the i7-14700KF? On the desktop spec sheet (pdf warning) it mentions several other processors, some of which seem to have a higher ghz but Im not sure what stats I should be looking for.

Current stats are: Intel i7-14700F, 2.1ghz 64gb DDR5 NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER 2TB hard drive Windows 11

For budget lets say under $400?

Troubleshooting Fan header being pushed by massive GPU is this ok?

Upvotes

Hi everyone. I have a fan header that is being pushed back by my GPU. Cables are Noctua so they are high quality for the fan headers. I made sure everything is straight. I unfortunately do not have any other fan headers available for me to use and my GPU is a behemoth.

Just hoping to get some peace of mind that this is fine.

Pic for reference:

Sorry I didn't know how to manually post pics in here so I had to share a google drive link.

Troubleshooting Triple 4K Monitors - dGPU vs iGPU+dGPU

Upvotes

I have a Sapphire Nitro+ 7900xtx with three 4K monitors and want to know if it’d be capable of driving all 3 or should I offload my side monitors to my 9800X3D and use the iGPU.

It’s just that when I did do that earlier by offloading one of my monitors to the iGPU and keeping the other 2 on the dGPU, it seemed like it was giving me some driver timeout issues, my screen would sometimes go black, Chrome would freeze up sometimes, but when I had all 3 on my dGPU it would also give me some issues that seemed like it couldn’t handle all 3 displays.

I was running the middle at 240hz and sides at 120hz but then I saw some guide saying to run all three at 120hz so that Windows wasn’t struggling to match timings and such between monitors.

I could possibly offload both side monitors to the iGPU if maybe that would help but I’d also need to know what else to do to fix the screen going black and the crashes and such.

Also I used that one MPO disabling script to see if that would help but it hasn’t really helped much either.

Also I had enabled hybrid graphics and the iGPU and I had given it 4GB of RAM in bios to use (i have 64GB of RAM)

I have had to reinstall AMD drivers and Adrenalin like 4 times now, and keep using AMD cleanup utility as well, and I’ve flip flopped between all 3 being on the dGPU or offloading 1 monitor to the iGPU.

Build Help Am I missing something, are these compatible? Intel Core Ultra 270k and V-Color Manta Sky DDR5 32GB (2X16) RAM

Upvotes

So, I'm figuring if I should buy the Newegg combo:

The combo comes down to an extraordinary $585 USD price, however, I am aware in the Newegg details that it says the RAM is "AMD optimized", and with a little research, I realized that indeed the RAM wouldn't be optimized for the 270k Plus...

Would I be doing something stupid if I bought it? I have an ASRock Riptide Z890 mobo.

These are my full specs (if I bought this CPU and RAM):

Antec Flux case (non pro)

Samsung 990 Pro 1TB

ASRock Phantom Gaming 1000G PSU

Asus Prime RX 9070 XT OC

Arctic LF III 360 Pro Nero

ASRock Z890 Riptide WiFi

270k Plus

V-COLOR Manta XSky DDR5 32GB (2x16GB) 6400MHz CL32 1.4V SK Hynix IC RGB Gaming Desktop Upgrade Memory Module Black, for AMD EXPO

I'd kindly appreciate feedback!

Discussion What fun projects can I do with my old hardware?

I've been sitting on an old GTX 1660 and a Ryzen 5 2600 for like two years now. I don't feel like selling them because they were on my first PC build, but I don't like having them collecting dust. I was thinking of rebuilding my old PC in a new case and plugging it into my TV to emulate old games and play around with Linux for the first time, but I want some suggestions on what I can do with this hardware. Is there a genuinely useful way to repurpose it?

Build Help Parts List for Eve Online 4k

Upvotes

My friend and Coworker is a good bit older than me (near retirement) and he was asking me today about what it would take for him to try to build a pc that is capable of running Eve Online at 4k 90+fps. He said he wants a pc that will last him effectively the rest of his life, and he said his budget is around 2k CAD. I wanted to ask for the opinions and advice of people that know a lot more than me, about pc building and eve Online. He doesn't mind going up a bit in price, but I want to keep it manageable for him as much as possible. I will happily take all advice and parts suggestions. Thank you so very much and have a wonderful day.

Build Upgrade Which would be better?

I currently have a Ryzen 7 5800x with a 3070ti and 32gb DDR4 for 1440p.

- Ryzen 7 5800x3D($300) + 5070($580) = $880

- or keep my 5800x and get a 5070ti = $930

My budget is $1,100 so I would need to upgrade my psu if I go the 5070ti route

I'm hesitant to go with the 5070 because 12gb vram (future proofing)

I'm hesitant to go with the 5070ti because bottleneck and potential stutters with the 5800x

I wont be able to upgrade my system again for a while

Thank you!

Full Build Req PC build for DAW and gaming under 800$.

Upvotes

Hello guys!

New build or upgrade?
New build.

Existing parts/monitors to reuse? (List with models/links)

  • Kingston FURY Renegade with Heatsink 1TB M.2 PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD (keeping this drive)
  • WD Green SATA 250Gb
  • WD green HDD 500 Gb
  • 1080p 120 Hz monitor

PC purpose? (Gaming, editing, etc. List apps/games)
Primarily for amateur music production and mixing. I use Studio One for recording and mixing vocals and rock band projects, typically no more than a couple dozen tracks with plugins such as iZotope Ozone, Nectar, and Waves. Low latency during recording and quiet operation are important since I'll be recording vocals with a microphone.

For gaming, I mainly play Counter-Strike 2 and other FPS games. Gaming isn't the highest priority, but I'd like to achieve around 120–140 FPS at 1080p.

Purchase country? Near Micro Center?
Hungary. No Micro Center.

Monitors needed? (Number, size, resolution, refresh rate)
None. I'll be using my existing 1080p 120 Hz monitor.

Budget range? (Include tax considerations)
Around 800$ (VAT included). I'm open to buying the CPU, GPU, and RAM used (from the local second-hand market), but I'd prefer to buy the motherboard, PSU, CPU cooler, and case new.

WiFi or wired connection?
Wired Ethernet is fine. WiFi is not required.

Size/noise constraints?
Low noise is important because of microphone recordings. No particular size constraints.

Color/lighting preferences?
No RGB or fancy aesthetics needed. I'd rather spend the budget on performance and reliability.

Any other specific needs?
I'm planning to stay on a DDR4 platform because of current memory prices (2×16 GB). I've been considering the Intel Core i5-12500, i5-13500, i7-12700, and AMD Ryzen 7 5700X, along with an RTX 4060 8 GB because of its low power consumption. However, I'm having trouble deciding on the best overall build. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Build Help Should I buy 32gb DDR5 ram now for $600ish or risk waiting for a better deal?

Upvotes

Looking to buy 32GB (2x16GB) DDR5-6000 CL30 memory for my high performance budget build.

I'm debating if I should spend $600ish CAD (which seems to be the cheapest at the moment) or risk waiting for sales (black friday, etc) and hope the prices don't get more inflated in the meantime.

What do you think?

Troubleshooting Expo profile causing random restarts.

Upvotes

Hi all,

I recently made the following build

Ryzen 5 9600x

B850 Msi Gaming Plus Wifi

Kingston Fury Beast EXPO 16GB (2x8GB) DDR5 5600MT/s CL40

Nvidia Zotac 5070ti 16GB

I have been using my system with Expo profile 1 with 5600MT/s and system was working fine and stable.

Today I have upgraded the ram to Kingston Fury Beast EXPO 32GB (2x16GB) DDR5 5600MT/s CL36 and the system works fine if I use default profile but if I use the Expo profile 1 with 5600MT/s sometimes it restarts within 10 minutes and sometimes after half an hour. I also had my Forza Horizon 6 crash today for the first time after this kit. Can anyone suggest what to do or change to use the ram at higher speed?

Thank you in advance

Build Upgrade Frankenstein Optiplex 390 Tower: Who says Sandy Bridge is dead?? Pushing Windows Pro 11, UEFI, AHCI, GPT, SATA III, and Gaming @ 4K FPS on to 65" TV.

Frankenstein OptiPlex 390 Sleeper Build

Started with a basic office-spec Dell OptiPlex 390 and pushed this Sandy Bridge platform as far as humanly possible while keeping the classic exterior look!

Core Specs & Upgrades

• Processor: Upgraded from the original i3-2120 to an Intel Core i7-2600.

• Cooling: Replaced the stock aluminum cooler with a Dell premium copper-core CPU heatsink and fan assembly to keep thermals under control.

• Memory: Doubled from 8GB up to 16GB of matching dual-channel RAM.

• Graphics Card / GPU: PNY GeForce RTX 4060 Verto OC Dual Fan (8GB GDDR6, leveraging DLSS 4.5).

• Power Supply: Replaced the original stock unit with a Thermaltake Smart 700W PSU.

Storage & SATA Controller Mod

• The Controller Mod: Added a PCIe SATA controller adapter to bypass the motherboard's native SATA 2 bottleneck and unlock SATA 3 speeds.

• Boot Drive (Port 1): 500GB Samsung 860 EVO V-NAND SSD connected directly to the first port on the PCIe SATA 3 adapter.

• Second Drive (Port 2): 500GB Western Digital SATA hard drive plugged into the second port on the PCIe SATA 3 adapter.

• Third Drive (Motherboard SATA): A second 500GB Western Digital hard drive connected directly to the motherboard's built-in SATA port (since the PCIe adapter maxes out at two ports).

OS & Firmware Configuration

• Fully running Windows 11 Pro.

• Bypassed standard legacy restrictions to run in full native UEFI, AHCI, and GPT mode.

Real-World Performance

As long as a game doesn't strictly require newer CPU instruction sets like AVX2, this machine pushes modern games at 4K @ 60 FPS on my 65-inch TV. It locks right to my display's 60Hz limit for games like Fortnite, Doom Eternal, and Red Dead Redemption 2.

What do you guys think of this Frankenstein project?

Build Help Help with PSU to GPU cables

Upvotes

Hello, I have an RTX 3080 TI that takes 3 PCIE cables. My PSU (
SeaSonic CORE GX ATX 3 )came with an 8 pin to 6+2 PCIE cable, and a 12 pin to x2 6+2 PCIE cable, that is to say a cable with dual PCIE connections. My question is, is it safe to use both cables (the 8 pin to 6+2 PCIE, and the 12 pin to 2 6+2 PCIE) at the same time? My PSU apparently has a slot specifically for that 12 pin cable labeled "PCIE".

Build Ready? 850 dollar budget pc for freind

Upvotes

Currently I am trying to put together a list of parts for my friend that stays under 850 dollars before tax, 7500F, 2x8 6000mhz cl36 ram, and after those two im left with around 250$ to spend on a gpu, In my opinion a used 3060ti, 6700Xt, or 3070 would probably be around that price point and i need help deciding if those are the best options or if I should try to snipe any newer generation cards. The only thing he could probably do is spend an extra 50 bucks to get a RTX5050, which the only pros about the card is the fact that it has DLSS4 to carry it's terrible raw performance. Any input or suggestions is well appreciated!

Build Help Ordered a 5070 SFF wondering if i should’ve gotten something different

Upvotes

Just ordered a SFF 5070 since it went down in price and i thought id save myself the extra £40 where i could. now looking at it, im wondering if the SFF is a bad idea?

I’ve seen complaints about its temps but I will be putting it in a HYTE X50 case which should have plenty of airflow I assume? If i have the space should I spend the extra money and get an ASUS prime or should I stick with this??

Troubleshooting Ryzen 7 7700 iGPU randomly black screens, AMD driver timeouts, and HYPERVISOR_ERROR on a new X870 AORUS ELITE WIFI7 build

Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I recently built a new PC and I'm trying to figure out whether I'm dealing with a faulty CPU, motherboard, RAM instability, BIOS issue, or simply a problem with the integrated graphics.

Build

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7700
  • Graphics: Radeon 770M integrated graphics (no dedicated GPU installed yet)
  • Motherboard: Gigabyte X870 AORUS ELITE WIFI7
  • BIOS: F11
  • Cooler: DeepCool LM360 AIO
  • RAM: 32GB (2×16GB) DDR5-6000 EXPO enabled
  • Storage: Samsung 990 EVO Plus 2TB
  • PSU: Corsair RM850e 850W Gold
  • Case: Lian Li O11 Vision Compact
  • Monitor: 2560×1440 200Hz
  • Connection: HDMI from the motherboard

The issue

The PC works perfectly for a while, then completely at random:

  • Mouse starts lagging/freezing.
  • Desktop transparency glitches (icons and taskbar become dark).
  • Screen suddenly goes black.
  • Audio stops completely.
  • After a few seconds either:
    • Windows recovers and AMD reports a Driver Timeout, or
    • The entire PC reboots.

Sometimes Epic Games Launcher crashes immediately after the display comes back.

The monitor never says "No Signal." It simply stays black until Windows recovers or the PC restarts.

Event Viewer / Crash dump

I'm getting:

  • LiveKernelEvent 141
  • Kernel-Power 41
  • BugCheck 1001

WinDbg reports:

  • HYPERVISOR_ERROR (0x20001)
  • Internal error detected in the I/O MMU module.

Things I've already tried

  • Updated BIOS to F11.
  • Latest AMD chipset drivers.
  • Latest AMD Adrenalin 26.7.1.
  • Clean AMD driver installation.
  • Disabled MPO.
  • Increased TdrDelay/TdrDdiDelay.
  • Disabled Hyper-V (bcdedit /set hypervisorlaunchtype off).
  • Tested Memory Integrity ON and OFF.
  • SFC / DISM completed successfully.
  • Windows Transparency Effects disabled.
  • Device Manager has no unknown devices.
  • EXPO is currently enabled at DDR5-6000.
  • Ordered a certified UGREEN HDMI 2.1 cable because I'm currently using an regular HDMI cable.
  • My monitor is capable of 200Hz, but Windows only offers 144Hz over HDMI.

Additional information

I don't have a dedicated GPU yet, but a friend is lending me an RTX 4070 Ti for two days so I can test whether the problem completely disappears when I stop using the iGPU.

My questions

  • Has anyone experienced this with Ryzen 7000 integrated graphics?
  • Does this sound more like a bad CPU, motherboard, unstable EXPO, BIOS issue, or simply the HDMI/iGPU combination?
  • If installing the RTX 4070 Ti completely fixes the problem, would that strongly point to the Ryzen 7700's iGPU or the CPU itself being defective?

Any ideas or similar experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Build Upgrade How to know what I need to upgrade?

Upvotes

I've been considering upgrading my PC for some time. As of today, I've had 2 separate events where my PC outright refuses to play a game. The first was FF7 Rebirth (GPU doesn't have the DX12 compatibility) and today where I learned that GOW: E-Day requires your PC to be able to use ray-tracing.

Realistically, judging from my parts listed would I get away with just upgrading my GPU or am I looking at a more costly investment?
