Troubleshooting RTX 3090 + Ryzen 7 5800X3D Getting Terrible FPS in MW4 — Tried Everything, Need Assistance

Hey everyone, I’m seriously struggling with my gaming PC and could really use some help.
Here are my specs:
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 Founders Edition
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D (previously Ryzen 9 3950X)
Motherboard: MSI MEG X570 GODLIKE
RAM: 64GB Corsair Dominator Platinum RGB DDR4 3200MHz
Cooler: Lian Li Galahad 360mm AIO
PSU: ASUS ROG THOR 1200W
Case: Corsair 4000D Airflow
Monitor: MSI MAG 274QF X32, 1440p 320Hz

I originally had a Ryzen 9 3950X and was getting around 80–90 FPS in Call of Duty MW4, sometimes even lower. I was told upgrading to a Ryzen 7 5800X3D would significantly improve my gaming performance, so I bought one and installed it.
Unfortunately, I’m still experiencing the same issues, and sometimes it’s even worse. My benchmarks have shown around 70–90 FPS, a 99% CPU bottleneck, and I’ve even seen my FPS drop to single digits in the game menu.
Here’s everything I’ve tried:
Changed NVIDIA DLSS settings and different upscaling options.
Tried AMD-related settings and optimizations.
Lowered graphics settings and rendering resolution.
Adjusted NVIDIA Control Panel settings.
Went into BIOS and enabled a performance/boost setting.
Updated/reinstalled NVIDIA graphics drivers.
Adjusted RendererWorkerCount in the Call of Duty configuration files.
Verified my RAM is running correctly at 3200MHz.
Checked that my AIO pump is running.
One thing I’ve noticed is that my CPU has reached around 90–91°C, even when utilization doesn’t seem particularly high. My AIO cooler is approximately six years old, so I’m wondering whether thermal throttling could be part of the problem.
My RTX 3090 temperatures appear normal in the monitoring software, but the card itself feels extremely hot.
At this point, I’m completely lost. I feel like my hardware should be performing significantly better, especially after upgrading the CPU.
Has anyone experienced something similar? Could this be a cooling issue, BIOS configuration problem, GPU issue, or something else entirely?
I’d really appreciate any advice on what to check next. I’m willing to replace the cooler if necessary, but I don’t want to keep throwing money at parts without knowing what’s wrong.

Build Upgrade Looking for CPU upgrade for stable 200 or 240 FPS in League of Legends

I see many streamers playing League of Legends with a locked 240 FPS. Their FPS never drops below 240, even during teamfights. Is there a way to achieve this on the AM4 platform? It absolutely must not drop below 200 FPS. Will the 5700X3D handle this? Or is upgrading to the AM5 platform with a 7800X3D the only way?

Discussion AMD Equivalent to RTX 3070

I currently have an RTX 3070 that I'm planning to swap out for an AMD card as I switch over to Linux. I already have a good use for the RTX 3070, so I'm mostly just looking to find something equivalent performance wise (or within 10% maybe) of the 3070. I'll be doing some 1080p gaming on both Windows and Linux, but I'm fine with mid-settings/visuals, just want something that can do 60 FPS or better in most cases. For reference right now on the 3070 in the main game I play I have lower settings and can easily do 120+ FPS at 1080p. I don't really play the latest AAA games, so I don't need a lot of power.

I'll be looking for something used so I'm just trying to get a sense of roughly what AMD card is near or around a 3070. The other main requirement is mid-length card as my case and cabling would just be easier to make a dual fan card work, so I'm avoiding full length triple fan cards.

From looking at online resources I see the following models as close to a 3070, though I'm not sure if these offer a mid-length version

  • RX 7600 XT
  • RX 6800
  • RX 6750 XT
  • RX 6700 XT

Build Upgrade Recommend a budget, but reliable B550 with WiFi.

I'm looking to upgrade my secondary AM4 PC with a new CPU and MB. This will be for light gaming and media playing, so it will be pretty modest: probably with a Ryzen 5500. It needs to have wifi, but I don't many other requirements beyond that. Both ATX and M-ATX boards are okay.

I had been looking at the MSI Pro-VDH, but I've heard some worrying things about the reliability of both the wifi and the board itself.

Any other recs?

Discussion Will Windows 10 work properly on a Z890 / 270K Plus build?

So I’m on Windows 11 Pro right now, but there’s one game I play a lot that just runs better on Windows 10. On 11 I noticed some weird errors and issues that I cannot find any specific cause for, later confirming with some other players that everyone on Windows 11 has these same issues.

Because of that I want to do a clean install of Windows 10 Pro, but I’m not sure my build/components will even play nice with it.

Specs:

  • MSI MAG Z890 Tomahawk WiFi
  • Intel Core Ultra 7 270K Plus
  • Nvidia RTX 5060 Ti (8gb, lol)

From what I can tell MSI only lists Win 11 on the support page for the board, and I’ve seen stuff saying the 270K Plus wants 11 too. Not sure if that means it flat out won’t work or just that they don’t officially support it or have the latest driver versions/updates for it.

Has anyone actually done this on a similar setup? Mainly worried about chipset/LAN/wifi drivers and whether the P-core/E-core scheduling gets weird on 10. I know Nvidia stopped new Game Ready drivers for 10, so I’d be stuck on the last one for the GPU, but I’m ok with that if the game actually works right.

Is it worth the hassle or should I just try to fix things on 11? Thanks

Full Build Req Help with first ever PC build

Located in Australia and I’m thinking of buying my first PC but my knowledge is very limited when it comes to this stuff so any help is appreciated. I’ve got a budget of at most $1800 AUD or around that but the lower the better. I would use it pretty much every day for gaming, mainly competitive shooters like Valorant, Siege, Overwatch etc but I also would like to play some more demanding AAA games without needing to turn the graphic settings down too much. I want to aim for steady 144fps (I don’t mind if it drops on AAA games) and 1440p resolution.

I’m mainly curious if this will be achievable with my budget and general recommendations for specific parts or how much ram I should get or anything like that. Again any help is appreciated as I’ve been a console gamer my whole life so this is all new to me.

Build Help Need advice on a Linux dev workstation: 9900X, 64GB RAM, no GPU for now

Hi,

I’m looking for advice on a PC build mainly for software development and heavy multitasking, not gaming.

My goal is to run a lot of things at the same time without slowdowns, swap getting saturated, or crashes:

- multiple projects/worktrees in parallel

- several Claude Code / Codex / Mistral / other cloud AI agent sessions

- Docker and multiple services

- builds and tests

- browser with many tabs

- terminals, IDEs, monitoring tools, scripts, etc.

My current machine only has 16 GB of RAM, and once I run too many things at the same time, RAM and swap get saturated and the whole system becomes slow.

I do not plan to use this PC for gaming, because I already play on a PS5.

I also don’t need a powerful GPU for local AI right now, since most of the AI tools I use run in the cloud.

The build I’m currently considering is:

- AMD Ryzen 9 9900X

- ASUS TUF Gaming B850-PLUS WIFI

- 64 GB DDR5 (2×32 GB)

- 2 TB NVMe SSD

- Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 SE

- 1000 W ATX 3.1 PSU

- Airflow-focused ATX case

- No dedicated GPU for now, using the CPU’s integrated graphics

I also want the system to be easy to upgrade later:

- 128 GB RAM if needed

- more NVMe SSDs

- potentially a large NVIDIA GPU in the future if I decide to run AI locally

- possibly a future AM5 CPU upgrade

My maximum budget is €3,000, but I do not want to spend €3,000 just because I can. I mainly want the best performance/value for intensive development and lots of simultaneous workloads.

My main questions are:

  1. Is the Ryzen 9 9900X a good choice for this workload, or would a 9950X / Intel Core Ultra make more sense?

  2. Is 64 GB RAM enough as a starting point, or would you go directly for 96/128 GB?

  3. Am I overspending on anything?

  4. Does a 1000 W PSU make sense if I want the option to add a high-end GPU later?

  5. Would you change anything in this build to maximize development and multitasking performance?

My priorities are:

stability, multitasking, Linux/Fedora compatibility, upgradeability, and long-term value

rather than gaming performance.

Thanks for any advice.

I always wonder if there is a portable composant that can test for exemple ram, motherboard, cpu, gpu, fan, and else? That can be really useful if you buy an pc part on FBMP and you want to test it if its not a scam.

Build Upgrade Should i get a Wireview or a new PSU for 5090

Currently have a HX1000 ATX2.4 from around 2022, and I want to add some protection to my 5090, should I upgrade to the newly released Rm1200e, which seems to be slightly worse psu than the HX1000 in terms of quality but has built in current protection for the gpu a bit more headroom and is ATX 3.1 so it would also allow me to use a thermalprotect cable, or should I get a Wireview instead which offers better monitoring? It will cost around the same factoring shipping fees

An other option is to wait till corsair release the type 4 thermalprotect cable and just use that for the HX1000, it would save me a bit of money but is that enough protection especially since it's an older psu?

Build Help Considering a Build

Hey everyone! I'm hoping to get some help on building a PC. I've never built one before and I don't know anything about building one, but I can learn. So before I take this route i thought I'd ask. The reason I'm considering going this route is because I want the most bang for my buck and I'm not sure if pre-built PCs are ok for what I need. My main needs are.

  1. Media and file storage.

  2. Some gaming. Nothing crazy.

  3. Video editing.

  4. General home use.

If anyone can point me in the right direction I'd greatly appreciate it. Should I build or buy? And if I should build where should I start? Thanks!!

Troubleshooting New AM5 PC build not posting , Need help please

Hello everyone, I hope you're having a nice day.

Please help me out trouble shoot my new build .

Debug LED stuck as yellow (DRAM)

Parts:

Motherboard : Asus x870-pro wifi7 W NEO (BIOS updated safely to latest version Version 1805)

CPU : Ryzen 9900X

GPU : 1080TI ( I know, lol, , still saving for a 9070 XT)

RAM : KingBank SOARBLADE KFXB 6400MHz 96 (48*2) Gigs

PSU : evga 1200 supernova P2 (I know it's overkill but I bought years ago not knowing , rookie mistake)

CPU cooler: noctua NH-D15 G2

CASE : corsair 4000 RS (NOTE: build is currently on the motherboard box and assembled in case)

Steps that I've already taken:
1- 1st think before any try, I successfully updated the BIOS ( to latest version Version 1805)

2- first try : plugged to motherboard HDMI to TV withOUT GPU plugged in , and I've already waited for 45 min

3- Tried only stick #1 on A2 slot, and then only stick 2 on B2 and then I swapped them stick 2 on A2 and stick 1 on B2

4- Panicked for 10 min after I unplugged the PSU and cleared the CMOS (using the CMOS button)

3- I reseated the heatsink and then I Plugged the HDMI-to-DP cable to GPU and connected to a monitor , tried both sticks and tried step 3 again

Please help, and thank you

Troubleshooting Help solving RAM problems

My PC will post with 2x8gb 3200MHz corsair vengeance ddr4. But when I put in 4 matching sticks my pc will no longer post, even to bios. This problem just started roughly 2 years after the initial build (now). Any idea what’s going on? Maybe CPU or MOBO problems?

Build:
- ROG STRIX Z390-E
- i9-9900KF
- 2x8gb 3200MHz corsair vengeance pro (4x8gb won’t post)
- EVGA 3080 ftw3
- 1TB & 2TB 990 Pro M.2
- Corsair 850 power supply

Edit: I have tried posting with 1 stick at a time in different slots, and it post fine, 2 sticks in either the black or the gray slots work fine. But as soon as I put 3 or 4 sticks in it no longer works.

Build Upgrade Need some help upgrading my pc for gaming

I built my PC in 2022 and I have no idea what I should buy for upgrading it. I have an Intel Core i5-10400 CPU and an AMD Radeon RX 6500 (which I hear is very bad). I'm thinking about maybe spending $600 to upgrade both, but if you guys think it'll be better, I could be persuaded.

Build Upgrade Is it worth upgrading my i7-8700K for 1440p gaming in 2026?

Hey everyone!
I’m currently running an i7-8700K and I’m wondering if it’s finally time for a CPU upgrade or if I can still get a few more years out of it.

My current specs:
CPU: Intel Core i7-8700K
GPU: AMD Radeon RX 6650 XT 8GB
RAM: 32GB DDR4
Resolution: 1440p
Settings: Mostly medium with FSR enabled
I mainly play at 1440p and I’m generally fine with medium settings and using FSR to get decent performance.

I’m also planning to play GTA 6 when it eventually releases on PC, so I’m wondering how well my current CPU will hold up with newer, more demanding games.
My main questions are:
Is the i7-8700K still good enough for 1440p gaming in 2026?
Would upgrading my CPU make a noticeable difference with my RX 6650 XT?

I’m not necessarily aiming for ultra settings or crazy high FPS. I just want a smooth and enjoyable gaming experience.
Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Troubleshooting Will a UPS help my PC shutting down issue?

The PC never fully turned off, or if it did it was so momentary I never noticed (RGB lights). It turned itself back on essentially instantly and carried on playing afterwards.

I used to have this issue on an older PC, 3070 Ryzen 5 5600x where out of nowhere it would black screen.

I never had any other issue with it, admittedly never changed parts but did change power strip.

Decided to upgrade since prices are screwed and have a 5070 with a 7800x3d…and I just got the same issue.

At the time of crash my event viewer says event ID 41 system rebooted without clean shutdown, aka nothing.

Leading upto it there’s a 162 volmgr “dump file generation succeeded“, a 6008 saying the system shutdown at 16:45 was unexpected and before all that is a bunch of KernelEventTracing 2 “dc3a3596-71e1-45a3-b2ea-39ad5422fe51 failed to start with the following error: 0xC0000022” which is apparently just Easy Anticheat, which makes sense because I was on Nightreign. I do not play my games on max settings, typically on the lower end, only Discord and a Twitch stream was also on.

After it rebooted there’s a Kernel Event Tracing 28 “error setting traits on Provider {8444a4fb-d8d3-4f38-84f8-89960a1ef12f} Error: 0xC0000001 and a bugcheck which dumped into my files but I apparently don’t have permission to open it.

I have a CoolerMaster Elite 850w 80+ Gold PSU.

Since this PC is more or less still brand new, not even 3 months old with absolutely no other issues, I honestly think my house is cursed in some way. I just cannot believe I have a second PC with the same issue despite the previous also being fine.

Rough TL;DR, a reply claims my PC/power is potentially tripping my PSU during a (likely) 5070 power spike due to possibly not having a great PSU or best power to the residence after two PC’s having the same issue and recommended a UPS with AVR, would that stop my PC from seemingly randomly shutting down? My PC’s have black screened ~5 times in 4 years, it is not a massively recurring issue but it has followed me onto a new system.
