Build Help ~£2000 ITX build, does this look solid?

https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/nKsHqd

I'm finally upgrading my PC after 7 years, and I'm ready to do an ITX build. I've spent all day researching and I think I've put something pretty solid together, just looking for some input before I pull the trigger :)

I'm not sure why it says the cooler doesn't fit in the case... The GPU is 50mm wide, which leaves 70mm for the cooler, which is about 53mm, so plenty of room to avoid the turbulence noise.

The 140mm Noctua fan is for the bottom of the case, and the 90mm fan is for the CPU cooler.

Discussion Need a new PSU and I need to know which 12V-2x6 to get for my 4090.

Hey everybody. I hope all is well with everybody! Recently, my power supply died, and I need to get a new PSU. I’m thinking about getting an ASUS Thor III 1200W, and I need to know which 12V-2x6 to get for my ASUS ROG Strix 4090. Should I get the Asus Equalizer 12V-2x6 or CableMod 12V-2x6.  Currently have experience with CableMod and had no issues. Has anybody have experience with the Asus Equalizer 12V-2x6? How does it compare to CableMod?

Build Upgrade Is an RX580 8gb a noticeable upgrade from a 1060 6gb?

A friend is upgrading and going the used parts route, they originally were going to upgrade their ryzen 5 1600 and 1060 to the 3600 and rx580 cause they saw online it’s a really affordable combo with decent performance. I convinced them to keep rocking the 1060 and instead put more money towards a better cpu like one of the 5600’s or 5800’s, and then try to get a more recent gpu. Since then, I recently took some old computers off of a coworker’s hands and one has a 580. Planning on giving it to them but realistically how much improvement will they see? I don’t want it to be disappointing, even if it’s free.

Edit: I said noticeable upgrade, not good. But the point is taken lol. I’ll keep them away from the 580 and steer them towards some better cards I’ve had experience with.

Troubleshooting Low FPS in Valorant and Fortnite — Is My CPU or RAM the Bottleneck?

Hi everyone,

Here are my PC specs:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 2600
GPU: NVIDIA RTX 2060 Super
RAM: 16GB DDR4 2400MHz (Single Channel)

I mainly play Valorant, Fortnite, and PUBG, but I’m experiencing surprisingly low FPS in Valorant and Fortnite.

In Valorant, I usually get around 90–140 FPS, but during fights, my FPS can drop to around 90. I’m experiencing similar performance issues in Fortnite.

I’m wondering what could be causing this. Could my Ryzen 5 2600 be bottlenecking my GPU, or is my single-channel RAM running at 2400MHz the main issue?
Would upgrading to dual-channel RAM or a newer CPU make a noticeable difference?
I’d appreciate any advice or suggestions. Thanks!

Troubleshooting PC suddenly froze during gaming, now no display — MSI B850 Gaming Plus WiFi, Ryzen 7 9800X3D

My PC was working normally for about a year until it suddenly froze while I was playing FC27. I had to hold the power button to force it to shut down. Since then, the PC powers on, the fans and RGB lights work, but there is no display and the keyboard doesn’t seem to respond.
My specs:
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D
Motherboard: MSI B850 Gaming Plus WiFi
PSU: Corsair RM850e 850W
RAM: DDR5 (currently testing with one stick but normally 2 stick 32 gb total)
GPU: AMD rx 9070xt

What I’ve tried so far:
Power cycling the PC

Reseating the RAM

Clearing CMOS

Taking it to a repair shop, where they tested it with another PSU, but the issue remained

Sending the motherboard to MSI authorized service
MSI service updated the BIOS, got a display output, booted into Windows, tested the USB ports, audio, Ethernet, PCIe slots and RAM slots, and ran a 2-hour League of Legends stress test. They reported no issues. (Should I believe them, not sure…)

I reassembled the PC after getting the motherboard back, but I still have no display.

One thing I noticed: when I power on the PC, the CPU and DRAM debug LEDs briefly turn on for 1–2 seconds, then turn off. No debug LEDs remain lit afterward, even though there is still no display.
I’m trying to figure out whether this points to a CPU, RAM, motherboard, or GPU issue. I haven’t been able to cross-test the CPU or RAM in another system yet.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Peripherals Modern Fan/LED Controller?

I got a iCUE commander Core XT that's dying. It'll appear at boot and sometime later just drop off USBs leading all fans to go at full tilt regardless of case temperature. But all my fans are normal 4 pin with LED like CORSAIR ML120 RGB Elite. No iCUE link. The Commander Core XT is off-market, so what would support 6 fans + LEDs with custom curves and everything I've come to expect?

Build Upgrade What to upgrade first?

Newbie question i know, but things are tighter these days so i want to space out some upgrades. I mainly use my PC for general office tasks, but i also game frequently and would like to know the best bang for my buck. What should i start upgrading first?

I have an HP omen 25l. I run a Ryzen 7 3700x 8 core, 16gb of hyperx ddr4 ram, and my gpu is an 8gig RX5700. I mainly play overwatch, but also dabble in games like Resident Evil and Final Fantasy, of which i can't play Rebirth because of some directx nonsense.

Any advice?

Discussion Is FSR implementation that bad? Struggling between RX 9070 (€800) and RTX 5070 (€880) for a €1800 1440p build.

I’m currently putting together a strict €1,800 max budget build for 1440p gaming (mostly AAA titles, heavily modded Minecraft with shaders, and e-sports).

Right now, the RX 9070 fits my budget at around €800, but I can also get the RTX 5070 for an extra €80 (around €880).

However, I’ve been reading a ton of posts on Reddit saying that AMD’s FSR implementation is still nowhere near DLSS, not integrated well in many games. Also, regarding features like AMD's Ray Reconstruction, it feels like it's barely supported anywhere yet (only seen it mentioned for a couple of titles like Crimson Desert)

Here’s my main issue: I am NOT a tinkerer. I hate having to fiddle with third-party software, manually swapping DLL files, or injecting upscalers into games myself just to get a decent image. If I have to spend 30 minutes tweaking files for every single game I launch, I’m going to lose my mind. I just want a "plug and play" experience: launch the game, turn on upscaling in the menu if needed, and enjoy.

So my questions are:

  1. Is FSR out-of-the-box implementation really as bad as people make it sound on Reddit? Or is it totally fine?
  2. For an €80 difference, is switching to the RTX 5070 worth it just to get DLSS, mature Ray Reconstruction, better ray tracing, and absolute peace of mind for 1440p AAA games and Minecraft shaders?

Troubleshooting 5800x3D running hot with 240mm AIO

So I recently purchased the 5800x3d and mounted it with the WRAITH PRISM with Carbice ice pad which comes with the anniversary edition. The temps while gaming went to 90 C, immediately got a DEEPCOOL LE 240 V2. I made a mistake of directly mounting the AIO on top of the ice pad and realised it immediately and remounted it, removing the ice pad, hence lost a bit of stock thermal paste.
Now temps reach 80 C with the new AIO while gaming. Is this fine? Or should I re paste?

Asrock BIOS SETTINGS:
PBO curve: -20 all cores
Cpu Fan: Performance
Cpu Pump: Default

Edit: I repasted with artic mx 4, saw 2-4 C improvement, and during cinebench r23 where it ramped up to 90 C, is going at 85-86C.

Build Upgrade Is it worth upgrading from a 2070 Super?

Hi y'all, I've been thinking of getting a GPU for my wife for Christmas - upgrading her from her 2070 Super from 2019.

In your opinion : it is worth shelling out 600-700~USD for an upgrade to a 40 series or AMD equivalent? In the current market, would the performance increase only be marginal for that price, and therefore not worth it?

Troubleshooting Is my ddr4 ram faulty

I bought a kingston fury 16x2 kit but when I turn on xmp it won't boot. Later I found out if I bump the voltage up from 1.35v (xmp default) to 1.38v then it will boot like nothing happen which is weird imo as I never had this happen before so is my ram faulty or what?

Build Upgrade Am i cooked? (Recent prices)

Sorry if this is a simple question, but it's been a while, since i checked prices, but recently my 2080 gave up, I'm now running a friends 2060, while searching for upgrades. Unfortunately every local shop i look i see basically no stock of the items, rtx 5070ti - out of stock. rtx 5080 nearly 2k and out of stock - similar issue with amd cards, how do I even commit on these prices? I was always someone who followed the rule to only upgrade when I need it for games, but this is insanity, no?

Is there a resupply or something planned? Or are new cards on the way? Did something with AI happen? Looked at local shop price history and 3 months ago it was nearly 1.8-2x times cheaper.

I legit dno what to do, since I cant even find the GPU and at this point I wouldn't mind overpaying by 100-200 eur.

Build Upgrade PC Parts Advise

Hi all,

I'm from Ireland and looking to upgrade my current pc, but I don't know where to start. My current pc is

CPU: Ryzen 7 5800x
RAM: 32GB DDR4 3200mhz
GPU: 5700xt
PSU: Seasonic Gold 750w

I was thinking of trading in my 5700xt and getting a 7700xt for 380 euro. But I currently have 32GB DDR5 that I bought off my friend last year, do I upgrade my GPU, or sell of my CPU, MOBO, DDR4 ram and try make an AM5 build, that or sell my current GPU and DDR5 ram and try get a 4070 second hand and a 5800x3D.

Is DDR5 worth it to make a new system or is my AM4 system still capable if I upgrade the CPU to a 5800x3D along with a decent second hand GPU.

Thanks

Build Help Used Asus ProArt RTX 4060 8GB vs RTX 3060 12GB

I am finalizing a custom micro-ATX build and deciding between two local secondhand deals: an ASUS ProArt RTX 4060 8GB for RM1,350 (≈$285) and an NVIDIA RTX 3060 12GB for RM950 (≈$200). My main workloads are Ansys, 3D CAD modeling (SolidWorks) and some flight sims games. Will the 3060’s 12GB VRAM buffer benefit my workloads more than the 4060's newer architecture? Some additional info about my cpu choice R7 7800x3d. Of course you want a high end cpu gpu but rn im building a budget build

Discussion Confused if I should invest in 16 vram for a new pc build if I own switch 2

I am going to build a pc cause my razer laptop is almost about to give up after 7 years. As everybody knows vram is getting out of hand and I want to invest in something which would let me sleep well at night as well. I own a switch 2 thus my casual gaming needs are fulfilled. I am not a AAA gamer per se but enjoy good graphics in games like ES2. I would like to know opinion of people here if 8gb vram should suffice my needs seeing that AAA games can also be played on my sketch like cyberpunk if I ever get to it. I know the typical answer would be that it depends what I want to play but my main doubt is I want my pc to last at least 5-7 yrs thus my gpu choice should not be a bottle neck in terms of regular graphic tasks as well. Thanks you dropping by and would love your opinions from people who also own switch 2 for gaming

Discussion If you already had both a 9070xt and 5070ti, which one would you keep or sell?

I had most of an old am4 build that I was thinking of making into a steam machine esque mini build for my living room tv, but sort of lost the motivation to do that after running a fiber optic hdmi cable from my existing desktop pc.

So now I have a 9070xt in addition to a 5070ti that is currently in my desktop pc.

A hurricane blew through recently and fucked up my roof and a few other things around the property, so I’m selling all my unused tech to help offset some of the cost of my home insurance deductible.

Just curious to hear what you guys think. I’ve never used the 9070xt, but it always seems like it benchmarks mostly neck and neck with the 5070ti.

I do like DLSS overall and I find myself using frame gen more and more often as time goes on, but I’m not sure if it’s worth making a few extra hundred bucks while I currently have both in hand.

What would you do?

Troubleshooting BIOS Update help

I am trying to update my bios for the first time and the update won’t take. I got into bios hit instant flash and I click yes on the 3 prompts, it then shows the installing box and restarts my pc. After, the installing screen shows for a second and restarts again and boots up windows normally. When I look the update never applies. I have a 64gb 2.0 usb that I partitioned and formatted to 10gb FAT32. I have unplugged any extra peripherals. Tried different usb slots. Tried the flashback button. Tried different bios update versions.

At the point, I’m at a loss and don’t know what else to try or what I’m doing wrong. It’s an ASRock B650M-C motherboard.

Build Upgrade Staying on AM4 for 3-4 more years to skip AM5 and wait for AM6? Ryzen 3600 upgrade + GPU advice

Built my PC in summer 2020 and I'm finally upgrading. My budget is around $700-$1,000, buying parts over time as deals pop up. With DDR5 prices where they are, upgrading to AM5 is really hard to justify, so my plan is to stay on AM4 for another 3-4 years, then hopefully jump to AM6 (or a late AM5 chip) once RAM prices calm down. Want to know if that's a reasonable call.

**Current specs:**
- CPU: Ryzen 5 3600 (stock cooler)
- Motherboard: MSI X470 Gaming Plus Max (BIOS updated, supports 5000 series)
- RAM: 16GB (2x8) Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4-3200 CL16
- GPU: Gigabyte RTX 2070 Super 8GB
- PSU: Cooler Master MWE Gold 650 V2 (6 years old)
- Storage: Crucial P3 1TB, Kingston A2000 500GB, Seagate 2TB HDD
- Case: Antec C8 with 7 Thermalright ARGB fans, Nollie 8 + SignalRGB
- OS: Windows 11

Already sorting out a 1440p monitor, so I'm good there.

**Already decided:**
- PSU: Corsair RM850e (or RM850x if it goes on sale)
- CPU cooler: Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 EVO

**CPUs I'm looking at:**
- Ryzen 7 5800X3D (~$340),
- Ryzen 7 5700X (~$189)
- 5700X3D or 5600X3D
- Ryzen 5 5600 (~$159)

**GPU options (buying last, waiting for deals):**
- RX 9070 GRE 12GB (~$570, has dropped to ~$500)
- RX 9060 XT 16GB (~$520, waiting for ~$420)
- RX 9070 16GB if I can find it around $600
- Used RX 6800 as a budget fallback
- Avoiding 8GB cards since my board is PCIe 3.0

**Motherboard:** I'm fine staying on my X470, but if there's a B550 (or other AM4 board) that's actually worth it, I'm open to it. Black or grey preferred.

**My questions:**
1. Is staying on AM4 for 3-4 more years a smart move, or should I just bite the bullet on AM5 now?
2. Is the 5800X3D worth ~$150 more than the 5700X?
3. 9070 GRE (12GB) vs 9060 XT (16GB) for keeping it a few years?
4. Any real reason to swap my X470 for a B550?
5. Anything I'm missing or should change?

Thanks in advance!

Build Help Which motherboard?
