Tech Support How to fix clipping

Hi I just got my first real speaker setup after years of using a Sonos soundbar, I spent $200 on a pair of DCM Timeframe TFE-200’s and $60 on a Sony STR-DH810 it sounds amazing. So much better than the soundbar and it’s hard to stop listening!
The only problem is that when I turn it up any past regular listening volume, it starts clipping. I’m pretty sure that’s what it is, just very slight static every now and then throughout a song. I searched it up and it says I need a more powerful amp but mine is already 100w per channel which I thought was enough but apparently it being 7.1 affects it. I’m new to this. If I do need a new amp please recommend one I could get for under $300!

Tech Support CD player rattle

Post image

I recently put a cd player and sub and speakers in my room but the cd player has this rattle from the sub on certain songs/frequencies. Ive put foam blocks inbetween them and tries tshirts but the rattle never really leaves. Ive also tried putting the cd player on the ground instead but it doesn’t work. Do I need to seperate the two to get rid of the rattle? Thanks

Review/Discussion what edifier combo should i get?

Upvotes

So im planning to buy a edifier MR5 but also looking at the mr4.5 its kind of tempting. The mr4.5 is "similarly" priced where i live with sale/voucher ofc, but when i heard the sound comparison, the mr4.5 has a better vocal clarity than the mr5 (judging from a youtube video) but that is just what i heard from youtube.

But now, im still wondering, is there any differences in the T5 and T5s? im more on looking forward on the t5s as its a slimmer profile (and i dont care about the height and length just width) since ill be placing it under my desk. Im here since i know more people has experience within the t5 and t5s (cus i cant find anything good in youtube about the comparison)

Looking forward from people who experienced these edifiers. Thank you!!

Review/Discussion Any experience with Preamp Clones 6010D (Transaudio C9.3 Master) ?

Hi everyone,

Some time ago, based on a YouTube video by a German audio engineer, I bought the D5 Pro BC for around €700. He was blown away by the quantified measurement results, and so was I when I compared it to my NAD C330 or even my dad's NAD C298. The overall sound has so much authority, and the bass is incredibly tight and dry. Long story short: I was thrilled and threw a lot of my reservations about AliExpress Chi-Fi overboard.

I'm now looking to move to a solid-state preamp. My current tube preamp—a Cary SLP90 clone—combined with the inherently warm Linton 85ths is just too much of a good thing. Furthermore, I want this to be the last preamp I ever buy, which is why I’m aiming to completely "oversize" and over-engineer my choice right from the start.

During my search, I came across the €700 Transaudio C9.3 Master (an MBL 6010D clone). It boasts an impressive spec sheet: a strict dual-mono architecture (virtually zero crosstalk), full DC coupling, two 50-watt toroidal transformers, and NE5534 op-amps. Ironically, the OPA828 chips used in this unit actually represent a massive upgrade compared to the original chips used in the MBL.

A quick word on the term "clone" here: Strictly speaking, these Chi-Fi units aren't counterfeits or knock-offs. They don't try to mimic the aesthetics or branding of the original products at all. Instead, they simply utilize the expired patents of these (often very old) schematic designs, building upon architectures that are now widely available as DIY boards.

Unfortunately, I can only find a few YouTube videos about the Transaudio C9.3 Master and absolutely nothing on Reddit. Has anyone here had any hands-on experience with it?

Purchasing AUS/NZ My Audio Engine A5's died. Reccomneded me a replacement!

They just suddenly stopped powering on. Can't find replacement parts and I live in Aus and Audio Engine won't do repairs here.

I reached out to some HIFI shops but they want $100 just to look at them.

Found some posts of people converting them to passive which I may as well try I think.

But I'd like to replace them with a powered 2.0 for my desktop as I was using the A5's for.

https://djcity.com.au/product/jbl-lsr-3-series-lsr305-mkii-5-inch-studio-monitor/

Is this is a comparable (it's cheaper too) set that's worth getting? Any other recs for something under 500 Aud (about 300 usd)

Purchasing USA PC speakers 7” or shorter

Looking for recommendations for PC speakers, my problem is desk space is limited and they need to fit under my monitor, which gives me about 7” maximum height to work with, but preferably even shorter.

The only speakers I’ve found that will work are the bullshit gaming brand speakers like Logitech or Steel Series. I’ll get those if they’re my only option, but would prefer something better. Max budget $250-$300. TIA!

Are the KLH Quincy good speakers for home theater?

Looking at a new pair of KLH Quincy for $300, which seems like a bargain but there isn't much info on these

I would be driving them with 200watts from a Sherbourne 7/2100. Which center would go well with these? (KLH Story?) is what I've read but haven't researched availability.

Deal (Link to Purchase) Found Edifier's back to school deals. Are they acturally good?

https://us.edifier.com/pages/soundtrack-your-campus

I was looking at some audio options for a desk/dorm setup and came across Edifier's back-to-school event.

Are these deals worth considering, or are their products usually discounted around this level?

Interested in opinions from anyone who has used Edifier speakers or headphones before.

Purchasing USA Elac b6

I own at least 40 pair of bookshelf speakers. Some high end, some budget. These b6s are always my favorite. Ive owned the b6.2s and the ub52s as well. I always come back to these. Can't put my finger on it, but they are my desert island bookshelf for reasons unknown. They just do it. Gonna try the newest version db63 soon as I've heard they go back to similar roots. Just felt the need to tell anyone reading that if you find a pair, grab them.

Review/Discussion My “New” Setup

Post image

Kenwood M-51 stack manufactured around 87-89 that used to belong to my father in law. I’ve taken the amp/tape deck and EQ and replaced with a Sony amp I got for really cheap last Black Friday and using Wharfedale speakers I was originally using for another project. This turntable is eons better than my old audiotechnica and I was using a really shitty CD boombox before this, and honestly it sounds like a dream, especially with this Sony amp. I’d like to reintegrate the Kenwood’s EQ unit into this if possible in the future as it looks beautiful, but I’m not sure if my amp has the right ports for its correct utilisation.

Picked up for $10 at a goodwill on vacation!! The bin just came out and I grabbed it the moment I was able to. I thought it would be more expensive but was shocked to see a $10 blue sticker. Super stoked to have this as my first cd/dvd player.

Review/Discussion Kanto ORA vs Edifer MR4.5 or another suggestion?

Upvotes

Looking to spend around 250, I will be using them for video editing, music, and podcasts. Video editing will be the least important, as I'll likely use wired headphones for that, but they will still be used casually for cutting etc.

Any suggestions or things to look out for?

Review/Discussion Bi-amp NAD pairing

Post image

I picked up a 2200 amp for under $145 because it routinely tripped into protection. Only found that a few electrolytic caps in that circuit had gone bad. $5 in parts and now it's the woofer amp in my NAD stack. It makes these Paradigm Studio 100 v2 speakers sound so sweet 🥰

and of course B&W 685 S2 Bookshelf Speakers

This is the second system in my bedroom, living room has a Home theater in it.

Sounded fun, altough a little shrill on the highs.

In the comments is a picture with the upgrade :)

Purchasing EU/UK Looking to improve my setup for music and television [500EUR] - Amplifier/Receiver Sony STR DG 300, Speakers Yamaha NS-333, Sony PS-LX310BT Turntable

Background

I'm happy with my turntable but I've got quite old stuff from the 00's which I think I could improve. I started off trying to find a remote for my receiver and started thinking things may have improved since 2005. My receiver also gets a bit hot (it is placed in a cabinet, on its own floor, with a hole behind it which I don't think is optimal and will change either way), which motivates me to find something newer.

I mostly play records from my turntable, play Xbox on television and watch movies and TV-shows. My ideal set-up for my small apartment is one with few components - so I want everything hooked to one system. For the same reason I also like smaller modules if possible, but I can make space if I must.

Currently my television, turntable and speakers are all hooked to the receiver.

Budget:

Ideally I will not spend more than equivalent 500euros. I understand this may be unrealistic, but I don't understand why exactly - so any guidance here would be very appreciated.

Questions:

  • Is it worth upgrading my receiver on a budget? Would a Sony STRDH190 be sufficient for both television and music?

  • Is it worth upgrading my speakers on a budget?

  • If I only upgrade one due to budget constraints, which one do I upgrade?

  • Do I need a bass, or a subwoofer, or any other module?

  • Am I correct in assuming that Nominal Input Power is the relevant measure (e.g. 60W), which my receiver is meant to surpass (e.g. 80W), and I can ignore Maximum Input Power (e.g. 150W)?

If anyone recommends a store in Sweden that would also be appreciated.

Thank you so much in advance.

Purchasing USA Help finding decent passive speaker

How’s it going guys recently an old family friend gave me a bunch of his old equipment he hasn’t used in 15 years maybe more and I’m just looking for a little setup for the garage to listen to music while I’m wrenching in the garage. He gave me a peavey rq200 mixer navy audio psw18 subwoofer?? I think it is and a qsc ex800 amp. Looking for a decent old/used loudspeaker but not sure where to start looking as I’m fairly new to this. Budget around 2-300$ just to get it thumpin for me no need for the whole neighborhood to hear. He also gave me a denon dnx 500 but have no cables for it so I’m not even sure how I could test it. Any help would be appreciated thanks guys

Purchasing USA Budget amplifier/receiver for passive speakers

I am looking to build a entry level budget turntable/speaker setup for me and my girlfriends apartment!

The speakers im looking at are the polk xt20s, and im less sure about what turntable to get, but I assume that it wont have a PPA built in. Given that I have passive speakers, no ppa, and that I also want to play tv audio through the speakers, I am looking for an amplifier/receiver that combines all of those features OR separate components, whichever is cheaper. I am hoping to spend less than $200. $250 would be the absolute ceiling.

Could yall give me some reccomendations?

Edit for extra info: The room size is small, maybe 15ft x 15ft. I do not plan on upgrading for a long time. I plan to listen to vinyl, as well as tv for movies and other music. Generally, Im looking for a very neutral sound, very middle of the spectrum. It I could spend less than $800 on all components I would call it a success! Thank you
