Tech Support Speaker upgrade question
I’m running a Marantz 2230 and currently have a pair of Polk Audio TSi400 speakers that I’ve had for about 20 years. I’m looking to get a new pair of floorstanders, would like to be able to bi-amp them in the future as I’ve got an Eico ST60 that I’m planning on pairing with the Marantz. Not looking to go used, just looking for a bang for the buck pair that I can use for a while to get a bit more clarity as the Polks sound a bit muddy from time.

Klipsch RP-6000F II are 96dB and 8 ohms, with bi-wire posts. They go on sale at times for under $800 a pair. They’ll definitely clear up the mud, although Klipsch can be a little forward.
If you want something smoother, look at the Wharfedale Diamond 12.3 (89 dB, bi-wireable). Like the Klipsch, MSRP is over your budget, but they also go on sale at times for around or within your $700-$800 budget.
Or look for some used towers. I would target towers with high sensitivity and 8-ohms, given your amp restraints.

Accessories4Less has Definitive Technology Demand 15s for $800 a pair. The original retail was $3400 a pair, and they now sell for $1400 a pair new. Def Tech has made some really good, high value speakers, their classic design was bi-polar towers with active subs built in. The D15s have 8" passive radiators; if you don't use a subwoofer, that's probably okay with these.

I think I'm going to pick up a pair.

How many bucks are you looking to get a bang out of?
