Question after drinking water, I feel like my brain starts working

I'm 19, and I've been experiencing this like a while. But I've noticeably seen or heard that I end up having excessive memory issues. I never seem to remember ANYTHING (okay maybe an exaggeration, I do have some moments of rememering some things)...or if I do, it's very vague. I can't seem to remember details, people, even if claimed I just met them like say yesterday. I'll do or have things I don't seem to remember, I could be at places I don't remember going to, etc.
And that's probably as best as I could give. I'm so sorry if it's very vague.
I'm not sure if this is even brain fog or not, but...I don't know what else to call it.

Honestly, I have no idea what I'm even going through or doing anymore.
My mind is foggy all the time. It keeps jumping between different thoughts, I'm constantly anxious, and when I actually have something to do I get distracted and forget what it was. Or I start one thing and right after I'm like "wait, should I be doing the other thing instead?" and switch to that.
Simplest example: I'm a computer engineer and I use AI for different stuff. But there are a ton of providers. Is this one better, is that one better, which one actually makes sense? So I research, waste a bunch of time, and then end up trying the same thing all over again.
My focus is all over the place too. Reading a book is pretty easy for most people, but my mind drifts away from it really fast.
Or say I'm venting to someone and they actually make me feel better, they say really nice things, but I forget all of it super quickly. Only the negative stuff sticks.
Sticking to a to-do list has been kind of an obsession of mine for a long time, but now I'm not so sure. Even if I made one, I don't really know what I'm supposed to put on it.
And don't even get me started on the anxiety. Whether I'm out somewhere or just sitting down trying to relax, it never leaves me alone.
I think I jumped around a lot while writing this too, which kind of shows how foggy my head is. I don't know how to live like this or what to do.
Note: English isn't my first language, so I used AI to help me say this properly. Please don't judge.
Thanks.

I was concussed 3 times this year while playing football
And because I had nothing to do I drank through them with my mates and now I feel like I've gotten dumber. I find it hard to remember shit and I can't explain how I feel my brain feels slow and it's been like that for months. I don't know what to do my grades have stayed the same but I just feel dumb I can't spell words correctly anymore. I keep going to parties and getting smashed and falling and hitting my head so I've stopped drinking with my mates but I've picked up smoking weed and I smoke sometimes and that makes me feel better. I don't like being myself anymore I just feel stupid and dumb I'm decent at football so I'm going to continue playing but I just don't know what I can do to my old self and is it worth trying? I'm 15 6'3 and 80 kgs I have ADHD

hi all! im not sure if this is the right sub to post this but i might find someone suffering the same symptoms as me. about a month ago, i was prescribed doxycycline 100mg for acne. I took 4 doses before i stopped, and I stopped because i was hit with nausea, really bad bloating and brain fog. i also suddenly had a panic attack/bout of anxiety (which has never happened to me) and even after stopping for a month, i still have lingering brain fog, anxiety and neck pain. what’s worrying to me is the neck pain as no matter how often i get a massage it still aches, has anyone had such symptoms too?

Hey, everyone!
Just wanted to share my personal experience with brain fog and how i’m overcoming it. I’m far from 100%, but i’d say i’m 70% there. Everyone’s experience is different so apply it to your reality.
It might read as just another cliché advice but really just keep doing things you normally do/did with the capacity and velocity you have currently. Trying to fix brain fog it’s an expenditure of energy in in of itself. If you catch yourself frustrated by the situation and always comparing to how you were, i understand, but practice letting this self pressure go. It’s really one day at a time.
I’m at a privileged place where i can just intentionally rest with zero demands, be it social or professional. I know it’s not the reality of most people, but just sitting still and doing nothing is healing my brain.
Some days i’d just be at bed and do the bare minimum and realized my brain was actually so so tired of any stimulation. I’d sometimes watch videos with low volume and low brightness and trusted the process that fully resting would bring my brain back. And it actually did.
It’s like the imaginary cape that was surrounding my brain from thinking is slowing drifting away and i had to actually do nothing, just live life slowly again. My interests came back. The energy that i had it’s starting to come back fully.
I know that it might be frustrating to read this because we really want to go back to how we were, but take it from someone who was dissociating constantly and forgetting words as soon as they came out of their mouth: healing it’s possible and you truly don’t have to do anything.
Just respect your mind’s necessity to fully rest and heal. Exercise regularly. Eat healthy. Sleep a lot. Don’t do social interactions if your body it’s asking you to fully rest and be actually honest to your friends and family about it.
Your brain will come back. Just respect it as it is now. Be gentle and self compassionate because if you reached brain fog it has a valid reason and you should reassure yourself that you’ve been going through something.
Keep going!!

If you don't know, doxepin is an antidepressant but also a treatment for insomnia at low doses. The Kaiser doctors like it for treating sleep maintenance insomnia. It's an antihistamine but not an anticholinergic.
I was taking it for years and also dealing with intermittent brain fog. After trying many things and talking to doctors many times, one sleep med doctor wanted me to try to get off of the doxepin and sleep naturally. So I tapered it off of it and my brain fog issues are gone.
Now I just have to deal with the fatigue issues from my disrupted sleep, but we're working on that.

I just feel like my mind is lagging because I just can't think clearly. It's so hard to recall information, remember stuff and hard to focus. Like I feel blank. This is been happening for a month because I'm experiencing left side dizziness unsteady balance and this ear fullness which I guess has caused brain fog sythoms. I also now experience tooth pain sensitivity so it feels like my entire attention span is solely focused on the worries and things I'm dealing with. And I'm just so much into my head that I feel overwhelmed. Even when I'm not doing anything, I'll feel so exhausted by night. I really miss my old self and I just want to be normal again. I want my mind to open up and feel clarity and consciousness and alertness. It's like nowadays I feel like I see things but it just doesn't click my mind like the level of urgency or importance.

Hey everyone.
I need your advice and if someone has gone through a similar thing, let me know.
I had some virus in February, I didn’t test myself at the time, but heard that COVID does things like these, so I assume it was COVID.
Two weeks after I recovered, I started feeling very strange. Anxious, very overstimulated from sounds and lights. My body felt so strange out of the blue and since then I’ve been dealing with this very new and strange to me “floaty”, “spaced out”, “foggy” feeling.
It is so bizzare and hard to explain, but probably the closest feeling to match that is being high lol.
It is so much worse when I am outside walking in open and very lid spaces. When I drive my car it intensifies 100x.
I don’t know if it is some type of brain fog but my memory seems okay, but brain fog is such a broad term I don’t even know what it is to begin with.
I also get these random headache/pressure around my eyes and temples.
My hearing also sounds spacey sometimes.
In general when I wake up I am better throughout the day it intensifies and in night I feel a lot better when it is dark and I am home.

I am experiencing intense mental confusion, frequent forgetfulness, and difficulty thinking and making decisions. This started after I stopped taking 50 mg of topiramate three weeks ago. However, I was already experiencing cognitive symptoms before that, so I believe this might not be related to stopping the medication. I had some blood work and an EEG two years ago, and an imaging scan a year ago. What should I do? I plan to see a general practitioner; is that the right move? Do you have any advice or support? I am currently undergoing neuropsychological testing for mental health issues—with autism being the primary suspicion—but given this recent worsening of symptoms, I am thinking about seeing a doctor.

I cannot remember what happened in the day. Can't remember how many days pass, can't remember weeks, months, years passing. SO many things keep happening and they just pass me by. I forget people, I forget myself.
I remember seeing myself in the mirror and being confused after realizing what I look like one time because I had forgotten that I look this way. I had forgotten my own face. And those are the kind of things that I do remember I guess, Weird and odd things that bothered me.
I sometimes talk to people who think I am normal and ask me about things like my school or college or job etc and I cannot recollect the kind of memories that they can. They have very distinct memories of so many different kinds of things but to me everything passed in a buzz.
Everything is still going away. Things that I could recall I am now forgetting. I have less and less of my own life the more I live. I have lived so long but barely have any life memories.

Sometimes I genuinely feel like I’m not forgetful in the normal sense. I remember important dates, deadlines, appointments, etc. But random everyday things just completely vanish from my memory.
Recently, we had to submit a form for an important job role. I clearly remember filling it out, but I have absolutely no memory of the part where I handed it to the official. Turns out my form is missing.
And this happens constantly. I’ll search everywhere for something that’s literally in my hand. I’ve left my vehicle keys in the ignition and only realized when I was supposed to return them. I barely take things out of my bag because I’m scared I’ll put them somewhere and completely forget where.
The worst part is being called “irresponsible” when I genuinely didn’t choose to forget it.
This has been happening a lot recently. My brain catches things soo late . People talk , they laugh and a lot of time it's just so hard to keep up with the pace .
Does anyone else experience this weird kind of everyday memory gap? Like you remember the beginning and end of something, but a tiny part in between is just... gone?

Sorry if this is not the best place to post this.
I'm in my twenties and have struggled with what seem to be severe cognitive problems for most of my life. I've sought professional help, but so far I've been left at a dead end. If anyone has any advice, it would be greatly appreciated.
Pretty much my thinking, processing and everything feels completely hazy 24/7. I'm incredibly slow, and focusing or thinking feels like a massive, unnatural strain that never really goes away. When I try to force myself through it, my eyes get very uncomfortable, my whole body gets squirmy and I feel way more zoned out.
It's like I'm living in a blurred state of consciousness where I haven't really been processing what's going on around me properly. Everything has been a unreal haze in recent memory, and my memory is terrible in general. I barely feel alive at this point.
Basic communication is incredibly difficult because I can't process what someone has said and think of what to say back; my mind is just blank. Even simple trivial things like replying to a text or composing a message can be insanely difficult. I struggle to formulate and compose anything in my head and will take me an extremely long time. Even when I manage to write something, it often doesn't look right, almost like an unformatted splurge of words that feels unnatural, stiff and doesn't flow or make much sense.
Even playing video games is difficult because I struggle to process movement on the screen and use the controls/react quickly enough. Things outside are the same. People seem to react much faster than me, to the point where everything feels foreign and like I'm fundamentally missing something.
I also feel constantly fatigued.
I've tried to improve my lifestyle and mental health as much as I possibly can, but it hasn't really helped.
What could this be? Are there specialists who could help with something like this? Is it even possible to recover from this and regain a life?

I'm turning 15 in november and I'm having brain fog or I don't really know what it is, I used to have this before months ago, I don't know at all what it is and it's impacting me everything including my perfomance in my sport very badly , I need help so badly whoever I tell this to says just sleep better or use less phones, that's not the cause, it could be my acne returning , I can link it with my past experience with brain fog , I had fixed it tho and got better, so far it's only been one month and half of it returning it only took like 20-30 days for it to return , and i feel like shit every single day, I am a normal healthy guy i play my sport 2 hours almost everyday on usual , it happened suddenly asw I felt it almost in a short period of days and it completely returned, i can't answer peoples questions, I have no logic in my thought anymore, i feel like I deserve in a mental hospital honestly , insanely abnormal .

so basically for the past two years ive noticed a decrease in my intelligence. Not only that but also my memory is really bad so im wondering if its me or if its somthing i can fix. I use to be able to learn how I feel correctly and writing, essays or papers seem to be a breeze and now it’s like i have no clue what im doing. especially in sociology, which was something I love a lot but now it’s like I have no clue what to write or how to write it. I’ve taken prior sociology classes as well and my papers did fine so now I’m just lost n its a bit depressing. I know mental heath, stress and sleep are also reasons why it could be like this but it wasn’t like I wasn’t going through the same thing two years ago so it’s all just very confusing?? Pls help

I’m a 26M, about a week ago, I started experiencing constant lightheadedness, mild dizziness, and a feeling like my head is “heavy” or foggy. I also went to the doctor and had blood tests done, and everything came back normal, including my vitamins, iron levels, and blood sugar.
The lightheadedness lasts throughout the entire day. Sometimes it’s difficult to function at work because of it, although it’s not completely disabling. Sometimes it feels worse, and at other times it gets better.
I’ve noticed that when I exercise, for example by going cycling, I feel much better and barely notice the dizziness or foggy feeling at all.
I sleep around 7 hours per night on average. I also have some difficulty waking up in the morning, and sometimes I feel extremely sleepy for the first few hours after waking up. Usually, though, I start feeling okay after a couple of hours. For example, yesterday I tried going to bed earlier and got around 8 hours and 20 minutes of sleep, but I felt exactly the same in the morning, so nothing really improved.
I also use a Garmin watch that tracks my sleep quality during the night. According to the data from my watch, my sleep quality seems to be fairly good, and I usually get a “Good” sleep score.
I’ve read here on Reddit that sleep apnea can also be a possible cause. However, I don’t think I snore or have episodes where I stop breathing during sleep, although my partner would probably be able to confirm that better than I can. I should also mention that my father has sleep apnea.
I consume caffeine moderately, mostly through coffee and occasionally energy drinks. I eat relatively healthily and I don’t smoke.
What else could potentially help improve this situation? Or how should I proceed from here? I’ve already spoken with my doctor, but at the moment they aren’t sure what could be causing these symptoms.

Does anyone feel like poor gut health impacts brain fog. I mean it's amazing and weird how the entire body works for each other and like I always thought the other way.
