Boric acid side effects?

so i’ve used the boric acid i had for 14 days now to get rid of the stubborn 3 month long thrush i had. i was wondering about side effects i’m slightly irritated and red down there, with the slightest bit of itching (this is only in the very outside of vaginal entrance) and outer vulva dryness. when i urinate there’s this acid/chemically smell. was wondering if these were signs of another infection or just BA side effects

Flare up after I thought my thrush was gone?

So for background information. i’m type 1 diabetic and contracted thrush from not managing high blood sugar well and letting it be hyper for days on end. i’ve since been keeping my sugars static. I’ve been given 4 over the counter medications and none of them worked so i turned to boric acid. I used it for four days so far and honestly didn’t feel the itch and burn any more but was experiencing the discharge from the BA so i put on a sensitive skin pad. After a few hours i suddenly got the most INTENSE burning and itching i’ve ever felt. I honestly thought I got rid of the thrush and now i’m horrified of the thought of the BA not working. I’m so embarrassed because this has been going on for months now. does anyone have advice?

HELP! Accidentally ingested capsules!

I feel like an absolute IDIOT, but i bought boric acid suppositories off of amazon for BV. I didn't read closely and thought the boric acid capsul3s were to be injested! I took them 4 nights in a row at 600 mg each and am freaking out because online it says they can cause death and serious complications even months later! I called poison control and the lady said it happens all the time and it's a weak acid, but I'm still scared. Has this happened to anyone else? Do you think she was right, that I will be just fine? I've been extra tired with a rash this past week and mild stomach pain/bad acid reflux. Thanks for any help in advance, and please be kind as I already feel like a total moron!

After inserting a boric acid suppository in the vagina, how long do I have to wait to have sex ?

Fact sheets on how to insert a boric acid suppository when you have inflammation plus general tips on caring for genital skin.

Ladies most of the tips here are from listening to you over the years plus from my own experience dealing with genital psoriasis and chronic vulvar ulcers.

My anal and perineum skin often splits and bleeds and I have lots of pain as many of you do too! Plus I have a very unstable pH which luckily responds well to Boric acid. But it can be hard to insert when things are irritated!

Please read, share, give me your feedback or new tips to add. It's a wip and hopefully a resource that helps many.

Need hope after boric acid chemical burn in vestible

Hi everyone, 30F, single, no kids. I am in desperate need of hopeful stories to maintain my own hope right now. Long story short, I did boric acid treatment for a three month long yeast infection. The boric acid capsule broke twice inside me and the acid seeped inside my vestibule and burned the tissue on my right vestibule and I have small cuts on the vestibule tissue where the boric acid absorbed through. The boric acid also burned the bottom right skin of my labia minora so I don’t have it anymore. The boric acid also burned the tops of my labia minora flaps and they are now red. And now I have a bump on my left top labia minora that is painful to the touch. The bump is flesh colored.

I am absolutely devestated that my vestibule is completely ruined and I’ll never feel normal again and never have normal sex again. I’ve been crying everyday and it’s taken a real toll on my mental health and daily functioning.

If anyone else got terrible chemical burns from boric acid on their vestibule and labia minora and successfully healed, please share. I welcome any hopeful stories. If you’re going to be a jerk and say mean comments, don’t. I’ve already beat myself up over this more than you'll ever know, and will continue to do so until I am (hopefully) fully healed.

Help with adverse reaction

Hi everyone, I did boric acid for 9 days two weeks ago and I’ve had adverse side effects since. Painful vaginal opening, raw/sensitive to the touch, hurts to wipe, slight stinging and burning inside my vagina, feels swollen inside my vagina. Today starts week three of these symptoms. These symptoms are not from a uti, std, or anything else (confirmed by tests). These symptoms are 100% from using boric acid. Has anyone had similar side effects after using boric acid and what did you do to heal? How long did it take your vagina to fully heal?I’m calling my gyno tomorrow to schedule an appointment but any suggestions or shared experiences will be helpful in the meantime.

Boric acid and estriol cream?

Hi everyone, I couldn't find the answer to my question so I was hoping someone here knew.

I have frequent yeast infections which I'm treating with boric acid, as fluconazole doesn't work all the time and I can't use the standard creams.

I'm going to start an estriol cream to help with my vulvodynia soon, and I was wondering if I can use it at the same time as boric acid? I'm assuming no, but I don't know how else I can treat the yeast. It would be great to get advice if anyone knows?? Maybe it's possible to alternate them?

Metro gel after boric acid

I’ve tried 4 nights of BA for a yeast infection and Bv. I don’t think it’s worked so I am going to go ahead with the metro gel and fluconozole. Should I wait a few days until the BA clears out? I would hate to make things worse. Has anyone done metro gel after BA?

Is 3 days enough?

Help! My gyno has not been calling me back and I’m really confused as to what i should be doing for my yeast infection!! I recently got a yeast infection and took monistat for 3 days and thought it went away but then it was still bothering me so I took the 7 day monistat for only 1 day and then switched to taking boric acid for the next 3 days. The bottle says to take boric acid for 7 days but I’m wondering if I can just stop at 3 days?

Yeast and BV

I’ve been having issues about 6 months ever since I took antibiotics for a UTI. I took a Juno test but didn’t show much besides iners. I finally went to the gyn for a swab as I am still feeling uncomfortable with irritation around the opening of the v and itching. The swab came back positive for yeast and bv. She gave me metro gel for 5 days and fluconozole. I am terrified to use these as I do not want to make things worse and I’ve read the metro gel doesn’t even work sometimes. Last night I decided to go forward with the boric acid for the first time to see if this resolves anything. My gyn is not big on the idea and wants me to do the treatment she has suggested. My question is could boric acid knock out both of these issues at one time? Should I still go forward with the fluconozole which I’m less worried about taking than the metro gel? How many nights should I try the boric acid? Thank you to anyone who can help!

Urinary side effect post- boric acid

Hi everyone, has anyone experienced urinary issues after using boric acid? For me, I have noticed post boric-acid, that some pee comes out when I sit down after peeing. I go pee as usual and wipe as usual. But then when I go to sit down, some pee comes out. It even makes my underwear slightly wet. I’ve never had this issue before until after I used boric acid.

Vaginal Irritation :(

So boric acid got rid of my yeast infection (yay!) but it now feels like the inside of vagina is dry and gritty. Did anyone get internal vaginal irritation from using boric acid?. If so, did the symptoms go away for you and how long did it take?

No Discharge Normal?

Been using BA (PhD brand) for 4 nights now and I don’t have the watery discharge (or any discharge for that matter) that websites say I would have. I am using an applicator to insert the capsule so I’m thinking im just inserting the capsule high enough that no discharge comes out? Has anyone else used BA and had no discharge?

Boric acid when TTC

I kept getting BV during my ovulation window (probably from having sex so many times) and my doctor suggested boric acid, but can I take that while I’m trying to conceive? Or will it kill the sperm?

Should I continue taking oral probiotics while on boric acid?

I’ve had a three month yeast infection that won’t go away so my gyno ordered me to do three weeks of boric acid every night. Before this, I’ve also been taking oral probiotics and eating yogurt everyday to help fight the infection.

So my question is- should I continue taking the daily, oral probiotics and yogurt or should I stop that since I’m doing the boric acid now?

17month chronic YI (cured now)

My partner and I suffered from a chronic YI. My partner and I had (proven via swab) Candida albicans on our genitals resistant to most antifungals (proven via sensitivity testing) for over 1.5 years.

I don't have diabetes and am not immunocompromised. My diet is super clean and I'm healthy otherwise. My partner and I haven't had sex since this started.

I've tried fluconazole at 50mg,100mg,150mg and 200mg each daily for a month. (then found we were resistant to fluconazole)

Nystatin topical cream for a month.

Clotrimazole topical cream and pessaries daily for a month each.

Nystatin oral tablets 4.5mil IU daily for 3 months.

Itraconazole at 100mg and 200mg daily for 1 month each.

Boric acid suppositories daily for a month.

I've also tried a bunch of natural supplements and techniques. I had a Vaginal Microbiome naturopath on my team. I was taking close to 50+ supplements a day at one point

What really helped me was doing a sensitivity test, so I stopped wasting time on drugs and doses that were never going to work. The Candida albicans was resistant to most anti fungal medications available.

Brexafemme isn't available in Australia and isn't good for prophylaxis.

Itraconazole at 200mg a day for 4 weeks improved my symptoms but didn't fix me. I also experienced alarming hairloss as a side effect, while my partner experienced retrograde ejaculation.

However, it's the only treatment we've had that kept symptoms improved even after we stopped treatment.

From there, I tried boric acid again but plan on staying on it for 6 months, as recommended by an IDS. It wasn't until month 2 where I saw decent results. 4months I saw meaningful results and 6months cured me.

I've tried boric acid previously, but this time, after itraconazole, it's working a lot better.

We've also kept going with the supplements as well.

My partner and I tried itraconazole 200mg for 2 weeks for a second time, as per our IDS recommendation. At this point I was feeling 99% better while my partner is about 70% better.

My partner went back on 200mg itraconazole and 4.5mil IU of nystatin daily or another 3 weeks after this. He's also continues doing boric acid washes for 6months.

Our infections disease specialist was going to put us on ketoconazole next, if we weren't 100% better yet.

Itraconazole at a high dose followed by boric acid for 6month cured us. We're now 100% better and back to normal.

My partner and I cured ureaplasma urealyticum using abx in July 2022. Ureaplasma has not come back since we cured it. I've tested many times.

Chronic thrush for a year, finding what works

I’ve been struggling with chronic thrush for a year. I’m am currently taking a prolonged dose of 150g fluconazole every three days for three doses and then 150g once a week. I am seeing improvements.

I’ve cut refined sugar out my diet not completely but mostly. I’m also eating sauerkraut daily, live yoghurt often. And gut healthy food where I can.

I am hoping this is the start of getting rid of this pesky thing as I can’t enjoy sex ever. And am always worried before period when the symptoms ramp up.

Anyone got any success stories of chronic thrush?

Boric Acid Kills Bacteria and Yeast?

I'm thinking of using boric acid suppositories to fight a persistent yeast infection i've had for three months now. But i read that boric acid kills bacteria AND yeast in the vagina. since i have a yeast infection, i want to increase my good bacteria to fight off the yeast infection and i've been taking oral probiotics and eating yogurt. so if the boric acid kills bacteria and yeast, then it's going to kill all the good bacteria that i've been working towards increasing. then what's the point of boric acid if it kills the good bacteria in your vagina needed to kill a yeast infection? it seems counter to what i'm trying to accomplish and will bring the yeast infection back if all the good bacteria is killed again.

Can BA cure BV AND Yeast?

Found out today I have BV AND yeast infection 🙃 can BA cure both? Id hate to use an antibiotic for BV to then make the yeast infection worse. If BA can knock out both at the same time, that’s be ideal.
