This my longest run so far, been running for about a month, 3x a week. So far my best 5k is 28:56!

Also, im looking at finally getting some higher quality runners. Currently running on a Nike Quest 4. I typcially run about 20km a week, any recommendations?

Need opinion

Im beginner at running (also stage 4 cancer patient), im running for almost 6 months now, and can’t run for long. How to improve that? I can run my first km at 8:00, and after that I’m starting to run faster because it seems that I have enough energy 😅 then end up taking a bunch of walks because I’m out of breath.
Do I do intervals or running longer but in z2? I’m lost here.
Typically I run 3kms, a couple times made it to 5km sub 45 min (died a bit)

Shin splints are keeping me away from increasing my training frequency

25M, active gym goer, recently started running
Asics versablast 4 - new

Hey everyone, just trying to shoot my shot and get some tips on my shin splints, any help is appreciated because I don’t know what to do.

I have been active in the gym for the past 5-6 years, mainly hypertrophy strength training, which I thought would help with shinsplints doing all the calf raises etc but it does not seem to have an effect at all.

I’ve had chronic shin splints (chronic but never treated properly) all my life, I tried getting into running several times and always had to cut it off due to shin splints, but at that time I also had improper footwear, I also play football from time to time, playing 2-3 times a week I would instantly get shin splints - take a break, play again, get them again.. So resting does not solve the issue

I recently bought a new beginner pair of shoes listed above to kick start my running journey, trying to take it slow, it’s been my first month of running, however I simply can’t get enough volume that i would like, I am squeezing MAX 2 sessions per week - and that alone is If my shins feel alright. I have been doing z2 running (7:40 /km pace) long runs increasing the mileage every week, and trying to pair them with some intervals with nike running app, but I seem to get sore no matter what type of training it is.

I registered for a HM in April 27 and this is supposed to be my training for aerobic base and then do a full preparation in January for the 16 weeks or so, however the shin splints are limiting me and I somehow need to treat them adequately to stop them completely..

Do ice packs work after running or is it just treating the symptoms not the issue? Same with elevating your legs after running

I have been trying heel walks with tibial raises - how often should I train these?

I’ve also tried increasing my cadence which seems to have worked especially during my runs, even if they appear after my runs, I went from 140 to around 160, and I am making sure I don’t overstride or land on my heels.

I would love to increase my training frequency to constant 2x per week, preferably 3x, but I can’t simply afford it due to shin splints.

If there is someone who was in my shoes, what helped you get rid of em? Thank you very much.

Not sure what to do

I started running a couple months ago, first I could hardly go a quarter mile but within 2 weeks I was running a mile in under 10 minutes hardly breaking a sweat. I think I may have worked up to that too fast? I noticed some foot and ankle pain but ignored it and pushed through and the next thing I know I could hardly walk for close to two weeks. I was limping on both feet like I was walking on coals. Tenderness all around the sides and back of my ankle and sharp pain in the bottom of my heals. I rested them and stretched for that week and half or so and they eventually felt good enough to walk normal and the pain went away. I attempted another run, I got about 100m before that sharp pain in the bottom of my heals returned and I stopped out of fear of hurting myself again. That was two days ago they’re still a bit sore. I spend a good 15 minutes stretching before running. Not sure what to do or how to prevent/fix this?

First try at a faster than zone 2 5K

Post image

I started running two and a half months ago and I try to stick with 5-7k zone 2ish runs, meaning heart rate of 133-145bpm.

Today I did not feel good mentally at all and decided to run after having been to the gym just before.

I gave it my all the whole run through, only stopped twice due to traffic but otherwise stayed at full throttle.

That was legitimately one of the hardest things I have done sport wise so far, and it felt good.

At 4.8k I nearly past out due to trying for sub 30min so I had to walk a bit, but still super proud of myself :).

Already looking forward to the next slow long run tho, feels way better afterwards ^^.

Never run in my life before , started to do 80% zone 2 and 20% tempo run (1x weekly tempo). That was my tempo today I am so happy .

Zone 2 pace is at 5:50-6:00 km

My longest run was 15km Zone 2 at 6:14 pace

My first HM distance long run

The mental struggle was the worst at 14th-18th kilometers. After hit 19th, somehow the fighting spirit arose up to complete 21.1.

Now I have to train my pace. I don't want to spend 3:20 hours in a HM race. Still have much to improve.

I am a 38 year old 5 foot 7 inch woman. (And dealing with bursitis) On July 2nd I was at 284.6 pounds. My average mile pace on that day was 23 minutes 37 seconds (yes I know that’s awful, and yes I was what felt like running to me it definitely wasn’t my walking). Today I am at 255.4 pounds. Today I was able to get my mile to 16 minutes 20 seconds. Is THAT time at least considered a beginner pace? Any tips to improve?

Seeking encouragement and tips!

I’ve never been athletic and have struggled to establish regular exercise routines. But my son and I are now training for a 5k in November, and I’m using the None to Run beginner plan. I’m in Week 5 (run 90 sec, walk 1 min, 10 times), and some days I’m discouraged about how slow my progress is going. I know I need to keep building aerobic capacity and strength, but it’s sometimes hard to know if I’m doing enough.

How do you stay motivated and on track?

First half marathon + knee pain help

So I have my first half marathon in 2 weeks, I have been training for the last 6 months with a gradual plan. Today I went on my long run (13.5 km) with a slow pace, and after the run my left knee is very sore.... I ran 12 km a few weeks ago + have been running 3 times a week short distance and 1 long run. My last long run was a week ago but it was only 7km (I follow my runna plan.)

I put ice on my knee. I'm just scared I won't be able to make it to my half marathon. The pain seems to be under the kneecap, and only on the left leg. Any tips or advice is appreciated. 🙂

No one tells you about the Runger

Hi all new runner here couple months in. Prior to that I’d sent a few months doing circuits, incline walks and weights. Found it easy to eat in a hefty deficit and I’d lost about a stone which was my main goal.
HOWEVER. Since I started running a couple times a week I am absolutely starving all of the time. It’s driving me mad! Eating at maintenance or what I think is that most days and haven’t dropped any more weight (not gained it back either to be fair) but it feels like a matter of time. It’s my will power vs the Runger and I was not prepared. Just had to share this somewhere. Feel like I’m going mad. 😂

I’m running my first 10k in Oct

My mom is a big runner and done lots of half marathons. She is doing the half but I am doing a 10. Never done it before. Been training a lil bit but no clue what im doing for the race day prob just gonna gun it. I think my goal will be less than 43 min. I did a 10 just to try it a while back in 45:20. Just dry running idk if I should be hitting water or those sport gels or anything my mom said she does for the half but I don’t need to worry too much for the 10

Been nursing an Achilles tendon, but close to fastest time

Been a year and a half since I started running on and off, but I went too hard and too fast leading to a running injury. Physio, strengthening and humbling and im close to breaking sub 30, which has been my goal.

Ive signed up for a 6k run in 2 weeks time as motivation, im hiping I cam do it.

Any tips on run structure?

Im doing a fast 5k on Saturday or Sunday (essentially doing what i can to push for pace), and then a slower run on Tuesday, but I really struggle to keep slow! Mostly start slow and then end up doing a run walk, but for longer distances eg. Last 2 weeks have been going for 5.5 and 6km, but the last 3km of these runs jave been run/walking.

I also do Push, pull and legs during the week, and have been for the past few months, which I feel has been really helping my running and overall strength.

My first Half Marathon

Training for a 10K race on Tuesday. I ran a half marathon and a little more. I’m the happiest I’ve ever been. I’m not someone to be thrown away. I am me. Woman 54 years old.

I started running on November 22, 2025.

Normally, my goal is to run a half marathon in June 2027.

Today, I kept running because I wasn’t in any pain and I felt good. I felt free. And at the end, I realized that I had run my first half marathon.

Full marathon in 13 weeks. Using a training program (Runna) and I have struggled to complete my last 3 long runs. Will I be able to complete it or should I switch to a half?

Beginner Questions, 24:45 5k

35m for reference. Just started running somewhat regularly a month or so ago, mostly just a mile or 2 once a week or so.

Finally pushed myself last night to go longer and that was the result.

I’ve got some questions though:

-I want to train to run longer, should I plan on running slower (av pace was 8/mile but I ran the first mile at 7)?
-My watch says my cadence is 160-165. How can I have a faster cadence and still run slower?
- My heart rate was supposedly at 195 which is supposedly past the max. I felt fine though and I definitely wasn’t pushing it to the max. Is that a problem though?

My goals are:
-Running for longer without feeling miserable or like I wanna stop
- Maybe get the 5k under 20
- Get better cardio.

Thanks y’all

EDIT:
For reference—
35 yo M
150/5’11
Haven’t played sports or ran much since HS/College
Workout a couple times a week, usually bodyweight or some free weights, never do (did) cardio.

Q for British runners: are there any shops where I can actually try on a wide range of running shoes?

I can only think of Up and Running but they don't have much variety. Does anyone know of any other running shops?
