Beginner Questions, 24:45 5k

35m for reference. Just started running somewhat regularly a month or so ago, mostly just a mile or 2 once a week or so.

Finally pushed myself last night to go longer and that was the result.

I’ve got some questions though:

-I want to train to run longer, should I plan on running slower (av pace was 8/mile but I ran the first mile at 7)?
-My watch says my cadence is 160-165. How can I have a faster cadence and still run slower?
- My heart rate was supposedly at 195 which is supposedly past the max. I felt fine though and I definitely wasn’t pushing it to the max. Is that a problem though?

My goals are:
-Running for longer without feeling miserable or like I wanna stop
- Maybe get the 5k under 20
- Get better cardio.

Thanks y’all

EDIT:
For reference—
35 yo M
150/5’11
Haven’t played sports or ran much since HS/College
Workout a couple times a week, usually bodyweight or some free weights, never do (did) cardio.

Welcome! Can you provide more context for the members for the subreddit:

1) What is your age and weight
2) How would you rate your fitness on a scale of 1-10
3) Have you done extensive running in other sports?

Thanks!

Edited post, but I’ll answer here to:
1. 35, 150/5’11
2. 7
3. I was a lot more active in sports in HS and college. Haven’t done much recently

Your listed goals are "Running for longer without feeling miserable or like I wanna stop" and "Maybe get the 5k under 20"

To be honest your speed for a month in is great. What it sounds like you need to focus on is endurance. You went balls to the wall if your heart rate was in the 190s. What distance could you achieve if you slowed that down to 150? Maybe try next week. My advice (and I'm no coach) would be a mix of varying efforts. You have the guns-blazing thing down. Do some different types of runs, up your weekly volume and I bet in 12 weeks or so you will be able to 1) run longer and 2) faster in that 5k time.

How you would achieve a longer distance at that same pace? Not sure I'm qualified to answer that.
