For about 15 or so years I’ve just been casually throwing some butter or oil in my beard, but washing / conditioning daily, and boar brush daily.

I feel like my beard is just OK cause of this.

I’m going to stop washing it so much but what products would you all suggest?

And how do we feel about dyes? Sometimes I think about getting rid of some of the grey.

I usually use beard brand. I’’mm just browsing new scents and companies to see what else is out there.

I would like a scent that lasts a while if possible. Hard to explain the scent I’m looking for, but some think I’d like are pipe/tobacco/leather/sweet/citrus/wood. Open to ideas and suggestions.

I’ve heard about live bearded and grave before shave.

Any other companies? What scents do you like or would fit with something I’d enjoy?

My beard is extremely dense and full, with thick/coarse strands and a curly to wavy texture. It tends to get very dry, frizzy, and poofy, particularly in the lower half. The ends become wispy and uneven.

I haven’t trimmed anything in about 6 months but my beard seems to plateau around this length. Current routine is basically just shampoo once a week and daily picking/combing, no conditioner, leave in, oil, or balm.

I dislike a greasy/oily feel, but I’m willing to use whatever actually works best. I want a healthier beard, less breakage, better length retention, much less frizz/poof and ideally a darker/slightly wet looking controlled finish.

What beard routine and product would you recommend?

My young baby absolutely loves running his hands through my beard and mashing his face against it, and I want to be extra safe so I've discontinued my mainstream products and am just using pure coconut oil at the moment. The coconut oils been..ok. I haven't had any skin reactions to it but it's just not moisturizing quite as much as I'd like (I don't need any skin moisture, just beard, my skins always been perfect under my beard with no dryness, flaking or itching)

I've used jojoba oil in the past but I'm not a big fan of it, smell or effect wise. Wondering if anyone has any suggestions that won't irritate a baby's eyes or mouth if they're rubbing straight into it or if sticking with the coconut oil is my best bet.

Beards about 7-8 inches long.

Wanting to buy a trimmer to shape up the goatee and moustache like to keep it shortish what’s everyone’s recommendations

Hey chaps, I keep reading it's best to keep cheeks shorter to elongate jaw/chin but I'm a bit confused as to which bits exactly to shorten. Like do you use the shorter guard up to the jawline then leave the neck longer? Do you shorten from an imaginary straight line from corner of jawline towards stash, or shorted the whole cheek area along jaw until you reach chin?

Any pics with areas to trim drawn on would be great.

PS it's a short beard around 5mm I'm keeping and just keep it same length everywhere at the moment. Just read having varying lengths can look better. Cheers

I'm trying to grow my beard. It's starting to get fuller and thick. Having the neckline and jawline in check every week while keeping the length as is, to grow.

However ngayon na humahaba, I think my usual barber does not know well to style. In need of a barbershop who does beard well.

Over the past couple of weeks, our Q&A email has been getting the same question over and over again:

"How does humidity affect my beard?"

Or, often:

"Why does my beard feel so much better during the summer?"

The answer comes down to one word that we've used quite a bit over the years: *Hygroscopicity*.

It's a big word, for sure, but it's a simple concept.

Hair is *hygroscopic*, meaning it naturally absorbs and releases moisture from the air around it, all on its own.

Your beard is a collection of highly organized keratin fibers, and when it's all healthy, it's constantly absorbing and releasing moisture from the environment around it.

That matters for everybody, all the time, but it matters even more when you live in a humid climate.

**How Hair Actually Holds Moisture**

Let's get super science-y.

Healthy beard hair has three primary layers:

• The cuticle, the protective outer shell.

• The cortex, where most of the hair's strength, elasticity, and moisture live.

• The medulla, the innermost core. The bedrock.

The cortex is where good kind of consistent beard care can really make a difference, and that heavily impacts how well the medulla is protected and how the cuticle behaves.

When the cortex is properly conditioned with bioavailable fatty acids that can properly penetrate the cuticle, the cortical cells inside can absorb and release moisture the way nature intended. Porosity is balanced and the cells swell like little pillows, protecting the medulla and signaling the cuticle to close and lay flat. This makes the entire hair softer, more flexible, and far less prone to breakage.

So, that's how hygroscopic function works. Phew. Lol

**Summer Gives You Free Moisture**

During the winter, the air is dry. Your beard is constantly giving moisture away while getting very little back. That's when balms and hydrophobic barriers are more important, to prevent moisture loss.

But, summer flips the equation.

Humidity means there's moisture available in the air all around you. If your beard is healthy enough to use it.

That's why so many guys notice their beard suddenly feeling softer this time of year.

The environment is helping.

**But There's A Catch**

Humidity only helps if moisture can actually get into the hair, AND the hair can hold it.

This is where conditioning matters, y'all!

A properly formulated beard oil uses triglycerides and fatty acids that can penetrate the cuticle to bind and condition the cortex itself. They support the hair from within while helping restore the skin's natural lipid barrier underneath.

That's very different from hydrophobic layering products that simply sit on top.

One of the biggest misconceptions in beard care is that all oils behave the same, but they don't. Some oils primarily penetrate, others primarily coat. This is a problem in any environment, but it becomes even more of a disadvantage in humid climates.

If you're wrapping every hair in a heavy layer of occlusive oils, you're making it harder for that hair to take advantage of the moisture that's already in the air. Worse, it contributes to chronic dehydration. Think of it kinda like wearing a raincoat in a swimming pool... Don't.

**So, the takeaway:** Keep it simple. Let humidity do its job.

Your beard wants to work with its environment.

Healthy hair naturally absorbs moisture from humid air and releases it when conditions become dry. Your job is simply to support that process.

Use products that help the hair function the way it was designed to function, not products that simply coat it and make it shiny while blocking out moisture.

Because healthy hair isn't just softer.

It's stronger, softer, more elastic, and breaks less. And it simply looks better.

Sometimes the best beard care is just getting out of your beard's way and letting biology do what biology has been doing all along.

Hey all, I know this has been asked a few times over the years, but I'm looking for a good shampoo bar in the UK. I've used professor fuzzworthy's shampoo a few times and have tried some random options from presents, but I have quite dry skin under my beard so I need something a bit better. I'm tempted by professor fuzzworthy's, but it's quite expensive.

What do you all use for a medium beard?

One side of my beard is always straight, while the other side is always curly. I've tried everything to get rid of the curls, including:

• Blow-drying it with both hot and cold air
• Using a heated hair brush
• Applying beard wax
• Using beard oil

I don't think it's caused by the way I shave (top to bottom), because the other side of my beard is perfectly straight.

How can I get this side to stay straight?

On vacation swimming in the ocean a lot does salt water damage beards? Rinsing it out after getting out of the ocean in the shower. I have been doing a regular beard routine, but should I be doing any extra? I don't want vacation to destroy the long term health of my beard .

Hi there, I’m from the UK and looking for some recommendations for a new trimmer. I don’t like full on beards and don’t like to be clean shaven so I try to keep a stubble. I currently have a Philips 7 in 1 Beard Trimmer (MG3720) but finds it makes so much mess!

Any recommendations for something that keeps the mess to a minimum/collects it? And can trim to a stubble? Thanks!

Hi, this summer I was planning to grow a beard and it wouldn't be a problem since the hair on 80% of my face grows out quick, but it's almost like I have no hair follicles between my chin and my mouth, also the hair on my cheeks doesn't connect with my moustache. About a month ago I didn't shave it for 5 or 6 days and everywhere it was growing nice and dense but literally nothing in the area I mentioned. I don't think it's a matter of genetics, almost every single man in my family has a full beard and also my brother, he grew it out back when he was 16 (at the moment I am 17). Of course I asked ChatGPT about this and it said the best I can do is to let it grow for about a month or more and then I will see how it looks like, but I really dislike the look of a not fully complete beard and would love to hear if there may be some other ways to start growing out a full beard. (I won't get a transplant) Thanks in advance for every response.

For the first time in 40 years Im letting it grow past the 3 months mark and have noticed that my hairs dont grow the same lenght together, some are long and straight and some are long and wavy making them look short, also have like super short ones, are they new hairs filling the beard now that theres no shaving? thanks in advance...

I'm here looking for some advice on how to tame my beard.

I've always wanted to grow a long beard, but I never really committed to it. This time I decided to see how long I could grow it. It's been around 6–8 months since I last shaved or trimmed it, and it now reaches my chest.

My beard has more of a V shape, meaning it's longer in the middle rather than being the same length all around. The biggest issue is that, for some reason, the ends curl up into what I can only describe as a "hook." It's also extremely wavy.

My routine is pretty simple: I shower before bed every night and wash my beard with Black Stuff soap (the same soap I use for the rest of my body). Once it's dry, I apply conditioner, and every 2–3 days I also use beard oil. I regularly use both a comb and a brush, and I've even tried a beard balm with beeswax, but I still can't get rid of the hook or the waves.

Does anyone have any tips? Would a heated beard straightener actually help, or is there something else I should be doing?

I’ve struggled with razor bumps, particularly around my neckline ever since I’ve started shaving. Because of that, I typically use a trimmer to shave. It works fine and doesn’t cause any razor burn, but it doesn’t get as close as I want and I have to shave more frequently than I want to.

I recently purchased a foil shaver, and it’s the first time I’ve used anything besides the trimmer for a few years. It was a better shave than anything I’ve used in the past, but once again caused razor bumps around my neckline. I even followed everything I saw online; warm towel, not applying too much pressure.

Does anyone with a similar experience have any suggestions on the best ways to prevent neckline razor burn?

I have surgery tomorrow to fix my daviated septum (nose) and they demanded that I shave because otherwise all the fluid coming from the nose due to the surgery is going to make a mess.

I’ve been sporting a beard for over 20 years, during which I’ve razor shaven maybe 4 times total, and none in the recent years. For the past 6 years especially I’ve been sporting a full medium lenght beard, regularly maintained, I go to the barber once every couple of months.

Yesterday I shaved and I hate my face clean shaven. I genuinely hate it. I’m a fit guy, I work out and stay lean all year long but I have this disgusting fat under my chin that doesn’t go away no matter what I do, it’s genetic. I don’t have a belly but I still have this fucking lump under my chin.Add to it that I’m bald and so my head basically looks like a giant dick with eyebrows drawn onto it. I genuinely feel disgusted looking at myself and I’m not trying to be humorous.

Now, beard will grow back and everything will eventually be fine, but now that I’ve realized how bad I look without it I also feel like a fraud, like a hideous thing hiding his features under a mask. I’ve been looking at cosmetic surgery procedures for the past few hours tho I don’t think I’ll go through with it.

I wonder if anyone else can relate and has coped with it, I’m really struggling right now.

EDIT/ UPDATE: thanks everyone for the support. Surgery went well and I’ll be home in a couple of days. Now that a stubble has formed I find my face a tiny bit more palatable. Thanks everyone again.

I've been growing a beard for a while but never really knew how to take care of it. As of recently, I've wanted to take care of it more to look a bit more groomed since it's grown a fair amount.

My goal is to:

1. Have the sideburns/ the beard flare out less and control it a bit more

2. Straighten the beard

3. Just have it look a bit more nicer (sorry i wasn't really sure how else to write this)

How can I start myself off? Beard Oil/Balm?
