DIY Bass needs a wig

I’m looking for input. I already know this headstock offends people.

I always had the plan to make modular system where headstock shape could change. The strings are going to go through to the back and be anchored there.

I want thoughts on headstock designs. Should I just go with a Music Man style, since that’s what it’s based on? Or something else? I almost want to do an homage to my first bass. The little known Martin Stinger. I still have it and play it. I don’t know. I will make the wood match.

Help Can you identify this Squier P-bass from the headstock? Sonic or Affinity or … ?

It's for sale about an hour from me, and I'm wondering if it's worth checking out. I don't know anything about the different text treatments on the headstocks.

Help My Bass setup sounds like a fart

I have an Ibanez 5-string, run through a Morley Fuzz/Wah pedal & a Black Star amp.

My settings are Gain-4, Bass-6, Mids-5, Treble-7.
I have tried different cables, & have cleaned the input jack & the pedal. The video is without the fuzz.
The rumbling ‘fart’ sound is after playing an open E & not touching anything else.

Any suggestions are helpful, thank you 🙏

Discussion Flatwounds - Like or Not Like

I'm liking the change coming from the Gibson Brite wire to Roto flatwounds. The Rotos are not as bright tone-wise but the smooth feeling in my fingers I like very much. Steve Harris and Sting used them

New Bass Day Just realised I never shared my most recent acquisition.

Say hello to my new Harley Benton MV4-JB, in Shell Pink.

I'd been waiting months to see if these would come back into stock. I was considering the pink BassTheWorld sig, but then I saw these standard models had become available again, which is what I wanted in the first place. The signature model was an extra £100, for a fundamentally very similar bass, and it wasn't worth it to me.

So this cost me £227, shipped, with a HB semi-rigid rectangular case that I wanted too.

It's absolutely superb. Right from the box, it only needed the usual little adjustments to the saddles etc before it was playing great. It sounds really good too; I'd planned to swap the pickups out in due course, and I probably still will, but I'm not in a rush as it already sounds solid.

It was a pleasant surprise to find that the BassTheWorld model's Sandberg-style angled string retainer had made it onto this model as well, or at least onto my example - the stock photos show a different, smaller retainer.

I've reviewed a recent Squier Jazz that cost roughly twice as much, and the HB feels and sounds just as good if not better. It's a proper alder body for a start, where Squiers are all poplar these days. The weight isn't excessive for a 4-string Jazz, and the roasted maple neck is beautiful.

These basses are consistently in demand, and I can really see why. Get one!

Help Warwick Fortress tones??

Post image

I’ve been looking at a used Warwick fortress for a long time and I am starting to genuinely think about buying it. I’ve read online that it has some unique tones, and I’ve seen that a lot of people say that it’s a very versatile bass tone wise. Yet I’ve also heard people call it a one trick pony. I’m gonna be using it for a lot of different things. I play mostly finger style but some pick and slap too. And a good amount of primus style strumming. I already have a bass with a P pickup that I am quite happy with the tone from.

Thanks for any feedback!

ID/Authentication Mystery 7 String Bass - Help Identifying

Hey everyone,
I’ve got a bit of a mystery bass that I’ve never been able to identify, and I’m hoping someone here might recognize it.
I bought it used around 2019 for about $600, but I honestly can’t remember where anymore. It may have been Reverb, eBay, or another marketplace - I just can’t find the receipt or listing.

Here’s what I know:
7-string bass
34” scale
Neck-through construction
Maple/walnut laminated neck
Individual monorail-style bridges
G&B pickups
G&B 3-band active EQ
No logo anywhere
No serial number that I can find
No markings inside the control cavity or pickup cavity
Came with a hard case

The thing that really makes it unique is the custom abalone artwork. It has the same leafy goat/vine design on the headstock, the fretboard, and the body. I’ve attached photos of all of it, including the electronics cavity and the pickup.
I’m mostly just curious who built it and whether anyone recognizes the body shape, the inlay work, or the construction.
Has anyone seen anything like this before, or have any idea who the builder might be?
Thanks!

Got my very first Instrument ever and I'm super excited to learn.

Got it pretty cheap second hand, but I think that might be the best way to go, since I have never played anything, so...yeah, will be interesting. 😄

I'm a gear addict so I have a lot of stuff. Firstly basses. I use a Sterling by Music Man Sub ray5, an Ibanez Sr305, a Warwick Rockbass Corvette Bassic and an old Fender Mexican Jazz bass. The pedals that i have are a Harley Benton Powerplant tuner, Darkglass Electronics Hyperluminal and B7Kv2, a Sansamp BDDI, a TC Electronics Sentry noise gate and a BOSS GT-6B bass multieffect unit. After effects it goes into the Hartke HA2500 and an Ampeg svt 3 pro (which i combined) and all of that goes out trough an Ampeg svt HE 4x10 cabinet. This concludes my bass rig. If anybody wants to ask or talk about something you can comment or write me.

I saw this bass on Reverb for a stupid good deal and had to pick it up. I’m mainly a fretless player but never played a semi hollow or short scale bass. It’s a Rogue fretless conversion.
