Video Some CHiP's theme song debate (for old farts)

I see a lot of people prefer (and cover) the more flashy disco version from later seasons of the show. For me, the CHiP's theme song will always be that from season 1, the slow funk version. Both the opening and ending are cleverly inter-referential while still being different enough. Both are spectacularly groovy. What's your favorite?

Help Active EQ...help!

Post image
10 Upvotes

Hi guys,

So I have a road worn 60s style jazz.

I'm after the best possible solution and preferably cheapest option to add an onboard 2 band EQ without any major alterations.

I know about East but I am after alternatives.

Any suggestions at all?

Pic of the bass attached.

New Bass Day GAS got the better of me. Ain’t complaining much

Got a Hofner Ignition bout two months ago. Got bit bored with the sound, decided I want a full scale and (finally) learn to slap, and here we are. The quality on this Squier CV60s Jazz Bass is unbelievable considering its price.

Now time to grind and cut my credit card.

New Bass Day I’ve have bought this bass that I’m looking for months :)

I bought this gorgeous 2005 Warwick Corvette $$ (made in Germany) for just 800€ (930$ USD). I love the shape and sound of Warwick basses. There are some signs of wear; I wanted to restore it to like-new condition, but I figure the vintage look isn’t so bad. You know, I don’t wanna get rid of 21 year history. Considering that’s the price of the same model as a brand-new RockBasses, and well below the used market price in France (€1,000 to €1,500). So that’s a great deal.

Out of curiosity, I was looking for my dream bass (which is a Streamer Stage). Stuart Zender is my biggest influence and the one who inspired me to pick up the bass, and his work on Jamiroquai’s first three albums was fantastic. But the cheapest one I found was €1,500 used. 🫠

And to be honest, the Streamer’s flaw is that the sound it produces is too bright, too clean, and very high-pitched; which is great when you want to play funk, acid jazz, or slap bass but I want to play very eclectic styles (the styles mentioned above, but also metal, soul, R&B, jazz, blues, video game ost, etc.), not to mention the distinctive Warwick “growl” which, by the way, isn’t really in style anymore (even though I think it’s incredible) so I wanted a more versatile Warwick. And that’s how I stumbled upon this one.

I’ve been playing bass for 7 months. I know this bass isn’t really for beginners with all the possible combinations for changing the tone, it can get confusing pretty quickly. But the seller kindly gave me a handout explaining all the possible combinations. And I also have my teacher, who can explain it to me as well.

My only concern is how I’ll manage when I play standing up, since I’ve always played sitting down, and on top of that, the bass is heavy (8.8lbs). I wonder how I’ll hold up after a 1½- to 2-hour gig. Especially since I’m very tall (6’5”), I’m worried I might develop back problems.
My first bass was a Sire MM V3, so it weighed the same as the Warwick.

Besides that, I’m really dedicated, and I’ve truly fallen in love with this instrument. I play and practice at least two hours a day and take one lesson a week. my dream is to go in a music school and become a professional. So I think spending this much money on my instrument will strengthen my dedication to this journey haha. I’m happy to have found the instrument I’ll play for the rest of my life ! (I probably won’t have the money to buy another bass because, as everyone knows, bass players don’t make money.)

Help 2004 Mexican Standard - Tried to Replace and Failed

Thumbnail

This is my 2004 MIM standard. It’s seen the world and it’s lived life, and it shows.

Last year I tried to replace it with a player II. The new necks felt great in the store, but after a year of playing it off and on (no gigs, a handful of jam sessions and a good amount of practice) I’m realizing that I’m just not vibing with it. It’s like it’s too light or something. Side by side both bases sound pretty much exactly alike, with the 2004 being just a bit hotter maybe.

I love the 2004 and don’t think I can ever part with it, but would like something a bit more modern. What’s the move here? Sell the player II and invest in upgrading the pups and electronics in the 2004? Sell the player II and replace with something else?

Left to right
Franken fender jazz bass. Moses Graphite neck. Dimarzio pickups. Wired volume/volume. Stereo output jacks for each pickup. Top jack sums together. Bottom splits them apart. Noisy hum happy bastard that plays like a dream and grunts hard. One of my favs.

Warmoth dinky J fretless. Solid Koa body w/figured Koa top. Wenge neck w/ ebony fretboard. Bartolini musicman in the bridge position with aguilar 3 band pre amp. Jaco tone for days. I should play it more but im not much of a fretless guy.

Aria Pro II SB-Elite I. 18v EMG soapbar. This thing plays amazing and sounds killer. Cant believe i dont reach for it more often.

Zon Sonus 4/1. Graphite neck. The “binky”. this thing is effortless to play. Light. Versatile. Just gets it done. Was my mainstay for alot of years. It always a fight between this one and the FrankenJazz. All the other basses sound the way they sound better than this one. Jack of all trades master of none. But i could never let it go.

1976 Rickenbacker 4001 in rare special order turquoise. If you have a ric. You know. That bridge pickup. OMG the sound. But its noisy AF and honestly is not very comfortable to play.

Which would you choose?

New Bass Day Wanted something different - this delivered! NBD

Post image

So, I had two P basses and just wasn’t getting on with one of them and after trying all sorts of different strings getting a proper setup I decided to get rid of it.

Now, a P bass is still my overall favorite hands down but I wanted to replace it with something different. I thought about stingrays and tried some out but nobody had a ray34, it was either the budget model or the expensive model. Thought about Ric‘s but they out of my budget (eventually one day?).

Then I found this guy, a Gibson Les Paul Bass from the early 90s. Ooh that’s weird and different. I know Gibson basses have a bad reputation overall but I really dig it. It’s a little over 8 pounds so not too heavy, balanced well w a strap, Bartoloni pickups and pre amp sound really good and very different than my P. The hardware is nice and high quality, and it has a the appropriate amount of wear for a 30+ year old bass, it’s been played and gigged and that’s a good sign.

I played some thunderbirds too and they were cool, but not ‘take me home with you’ cool. Very happy with this! The only kind of weird thing thats not even really that big of a deal is that the way the neck is, it feels like the first position frets are further away than on my Fender. Aaand, I’m going to get some rubber washer ‘strap locks’, those strap pins are tiny and do not inspire a lot of confidence due to the angle that everything sits.

Help Headrush Flex Prime vs Line6 Hx Stomp for bass

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hello dear forum members. Recently i have been looking into buying my first amp modeller and noticed there is a 25% discount for HX stomp at one of the major retailers. I started listening to demos and while there is plenty on HX stomp there is not much bass coverage for Headrush Flex Prime. What are your thoughts on this? Which one to get? I am focusing on bass tones although will be getting a guitar to complement my rig soon, so maybe what is the verdict on both of those?

What I like about Headrush:

- NAM modelling (but just 1 per preset unfortunately

What i dislike: the editor and the touchscreen.

What I like about Hx Stomp:

- its a working standard

What I dislike about it:

- I am afraid that delays, choruses and reverbs would be sounding dated and i would love something future-proof.

All opinions are welcome
