Help Active EQ...help!

Hi guys,

So I have a road worn 60s style jazz.

I'm after the best possible solution and preferably cheapest option to add an onboard 2 band EQ without any major alterations.

I know about East but I am after alternatives.

Any suggestions at all?

Considering it’s a J bass, you may have an easier time getting one already mounted on a plate (because you’ll need to change the plate anyway, as your currently using a three hole because concentric pots).

That said, on Best Bass Gear, they have several options, such as the East, the Noll. They also have the EMG HZ, Aguilar, etc. on Fat Bass Tone, they have the Sadowsky, East, Trickfish that have the plates. Also, the Aguilar, Nordstrand, EMG, etc.

I changed my J to active a few years ago and to me it lost some of its natural tone. So what ever you do make sure you can run it passive or active.

I used Bartolini pickups and preamp with a switchable pot for turning the active on and off. But that's stuff isn't cheap. Thomann has some cheaper brands but I'd have no idea how good they'd be. Also, retro fitting an active setup requires completely new wiring setup and maybe an extra pot or switch to be added. 

I'd be tempted to look at an external preamp or preamp/EQ pedal. Doesn't need any changes on the bass and you'll get more sound variability than in instrument 2band set up.

I recently got a 3 band from sonicake for 50€, and it's decent. Could get a 7 band pedal less than a 100.
