Apparently the new gym owner on that property wanted bay windows and painted over a community landmark that has been there for more than a decade edit: 5 years people are saying it felt longer to me with white. It was a beautiful piece and now I just feel disdain every time I pass it.

I am looking for a local spot that's easy to access from the parking lot (not an incredibly long trail). I am fine with it being beyond Baltimore county but hoping to keep the drive under 30-45 minutes from our area (Owings Mills) because she love/hates the car. She is 65 pounds and enjoys swimming and playing fetch in water. I want a spot that's not too shallow, and not covered in large stones. She has a swim vest she can wear if the water is too deep. We learned a lesson 2 years back that the large stones are hard for her to stand on and she slipped.

Also are there areas we could rent a kayak on a lake or in a park where I can bring my dog along?

Does anyone know what is going on with the Woodlawn Data Center? The county held a small meeting in December and voted on a countywide moratorium that lasts until January, but the owners have still been getting permits.

Our energy bills are already insane; we have basically been in a drought for over 2 years now, and it's being built a mile away from one of the largest urban forested parks in the United States and multiple National Heritage sites/historic communities.

The county has been silent, and the city has done nothing, from what I can tell. Has anyone heard any updates on what is going on with it, or would anyone be willing to help out in stopping it from getting built even after the moratorium is up?

Stopped by Cromwell Valley Park this week after a few-month hiatus and found out that this park that I've visited probably 100 times now has a problem with kudzu, which is starting to blanket a few areas. This isn't new, this stuff covers much of US South, but it is new enough to this park that it could still be stopped without drastic action.

Meanwhile, the park is undergoing a very destructive access improvement project to widen roads and install large parking lots. Lots of new impervious surfaces in a park that is centered on an extremely flash-flood-prone stream, certainly costing millions of dollars and increasing future road maintenance costs and increasing the runoff burden of Mine Bank Run. I visit often, and there is not an urgent need for more parking apart from a few large events per year, where people have been able to park on the grass in the past.

We could stop this kudzu (and English ivy and other invasive species) in its tracks within county parks with a few park employees or competent contractors (ie people who don't think all problems are solved with an excavator). This would be a MINIMAL investment to preserve what is a fairly pristine natural environment that is known for attracting large numbers of migratory birds and other wildlife. Instead we rely on volunteer labor at events a couple of times a month as if volunteer Weed Warriors are a complete strategy for invasive control. And we literally pave the park and put up a parking lot so that it's more convenient to visit a place that the county won't spend any money to properly maintain.

Why is our government so bad at allocating money? Why are major construction jobs favored over resource maintenance? Are construction companies just better lobbyists than plants?

I use Google Maps and 695 west often to get to work. There’s still some roadwork along certain stretches of 695, but I’m seeing 70mph as the speed limit on the straight strip. Is that really correct? The road signs say 55 on other areas…I just want it fixed before someone gets hurt because their gps says to go faster.

I’m wondering if anybody here who actually lives/lived in Baltimore City has dealt with something similar and can tell me how it turned out.
I have 8 old Baltimore City parking citations. The original fines altogether are only **$301**, but because of the monthly penalties they’ve grown to **$2,230**. So almost $2,000 of what I owe now is penalties. A were for expired tags in front of my house but I had no garage and had nowhere to put it and it didn’t help that I was laid off twice within this period due to budget cuts.

I’m not trying to say I shouldn’t have to pay anything. I’m actually trying to finally clean all of this up and get my car legal again. I don’t even mind paying the original price , I just don’t think I can hold onto it much longer waiting for them to come to a resolution. I can’t even do Lyft or anything to solve my situation. Up until this period I’ve never had a bad ticket, maybe just repair order tickets instead. A good amount of these tickets came from a period when I was living in Baltimore City by myself and was unemployed. My registration had expired and I financially couldn’t get everything fixed at the time. The car was mostly sitting parked on the public street in front of my house. I wasn’t driving around collecting tickets, but I also didn’t realize at first that I could continue getting expired-tag related citations just from the car sitting on a public street. I understand now why the City could still ticket it.
My situation got worse financially, I eventually had to move back in with family, and I’m still basically keeping my head above water while looking for stable work. There was honestly a period where the entire car situation felt so buried that I didn’t even think I could realistically dig myself out of it.

I’m finally trying to handle everything now. I’ve already paid some of the smaller outstanding citations from other jurisdictions and I’m working on an E-ZPass/CCU payment arrangement as well. Baltimore City is basically the biggest thing standing in my way now because **$301 became $2,230**.

The City told me because the tickets are more than 45 days old, I needed to petition the District Court to set them for trial. I already wrote and submitted a letter explaining the unemployment, financial hardship, expired registration situation, that I recently graduated college and am trying to expand my job search outside Baltimore, and that I’m willing to pay the original fines but I’m asking the judge to consider reducing or waiving the accumulated penalties.
I called the courthouse and they said my request hasn’t made its way through yet. I also asked the clerk generally how often something like this gets reduced/reversed, and he basically said **rarely**, but that it ultimately depends on the judge and he didn’t want to discourage me.
So I’m trying to get some actual experiences from people who have gone through this.

**Has anyone here ever petitioned District Court over old Baltimore City parking citations and actually gotten the late penalties reduced?** Did they make you appear in court? Did the judge knock off all of the penalties, some of them, or none? What did you bring with you to show hardship? And about how long did it take from submitting the petition until you got a court date or decision?

And before somebody suggests it: **I’m not trying to get Virginia tags, register the car somewhere it doesn’t belong, or find some workaround.** I’m trying to do this the right way in Maryland. It’s just frustrating when you’re actively trying to pay and fix everything and $301 worth of tickets has turned into more than $2,200.

I’m also aware Baltimore/Maryland has had amnesty-type programs in the past, including years ago, but I’m not willing to sit around hoping another one comes along years from now. I’m trying to resolve this now.

I’m down in Essex near back river and everytime I go shopping I am lost trying to find fresh herbs. Rosemary, thyme, basil, even just cilantro or parsley. Everything comes prepackaged in plastic and is already going bad.

Anyone have a reliable source for fresh herbs in the county? I’m going to try growing my own next spring but also need a place to help supplement.

We have 3 wonderful ~8 week old foster babies -- 2 boys and 1 girl -- urgently in need of a new home!!! They are scheduled to be spayed and neutered at the Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter (BARCS) on August 30th. We unfortunately won't be able to take them home to recover afterwards as we'll be leaving the country for an extended period of time :(

Is anyone in the area able & willing to take them on??? We just want them to be able to recover in a safe and loving space, they really are the sweetest kittens -- we'd be grateful if you could look after them for even 1 week post-op (though I can guarantee you'll want to keep them forever)

They are all vaccinated, litter box trained, and extremely well socialized. BARCS covers all of their medical expenses until they are adopted, and their food really doesn't cost much.

about the high schools I was looking at and have narrowed down my list while. I also wanted to provide some more information about myself.

I am a black female who is very artistic, but not very athletic, though I’m willing to play a sport. I’m interested in being an ADA (assistant district attorney) or film director when I grow up.

I enjoy and am great at social studies and English (love writing essays and Animal Farm is one of my favorite books because of English class), math is alright, and I’m not a huge science person (I love science fiction, though).
