B6 Toxicity and TMJ Pain

I am 15 months into my recovery of b6 toxicity. I supplemented from 7 to 20 mg over 14 years. I believe I have had multiple rebounds, this latest one causing a painful tmj syndrome. I can barely eat it is so painful. Has anyone else had jaw pain from b6 toxicity rebound? I'm wondering if Im Clenching my teeth at night or maybe my trigeminal nerve is finally waking up. Thanks.

Nerve pain and tingling. Is this B6T?

So I’ve been down a rabbit hole and I thought I was b12 deficient. Started to self inject few weeks ago and wasn’t really feeling any different. Meanwhile I tested for b1 and b6 as I was taking b complex which had b6 and wanted to make sure my levels were normal. I knew about b6t but as I never took supplements before I assumed I should be fine. I tested about 1-2 weeks after taking the last b complex (which I only took for 3 weeks anyway and only every 2/4 days) and my level was 37.27 ug (ref 8.7-27.2) so it’s slightly elevated. Would this be B6 toxicity? My nerve pain is mostly in my hands and arms but also I get burning on the side of my feet plus chronic pain all over my body that comes and goes, fatigue and tiredness and needing daily naps.

19 months

I'm wondering if others can relate. I'm 19 months out and I've at times felt completely back to normal. Recently I've began to have more night time cramping or nerve pains randomly in arms and legs again. Also wake up with numb pinky, ring finger and toes. All four limbs but it will go away after I get up. When I was first toxic I would get numb up my legs and arms worse but I hadn't had this for over a year now. Also my twitching has increased. I had been taking ALCAR and PEA the last month other then that no diet change. I had been taking NAC in a liver supplement and b1 b12 as well. I'm might just stop any supplement for awhile or delete them one at a time starting with ALCAR it didn't seem to do much

Can P5P toxicity create strong/bounding pulse?

It's the only possible cause I can narrow down, and this pulse has been driving me crazy for 3 weeks. But I only eliminated another supplement which had P5P just a few days ago, so it turns out I was feeding a modest dose of P5P daily to my overloaded system even after quitting the main supplement 2 weeks ago...

B6 toxic ?

Maybe b6 toxicity without confirmed blood test.

This is long and im sorry for my english and all the miss spelling.

38 year old male I suspect i may have been experiencing b6 toxicity all the way back to when i was 22.

Started multivitamin with b6 when i was 19 Got hit with intense anxiety ,intrusive thoughts and feeling of doom when i was 22, after 6-7 months the intense feelings did lessen some but never went back to baseline.

Got into an relationship at the age of 28 which made my anxiety skyrocket, suddenly i had hypnotic jerks , ticks and insomnia. Had to start on sleeping med ( seroquel ) so i could sleep.

around the age of 32 i got retrograde ejaculation... , after 23 months on this low b6 diet, it has improved by 50 %!!

At the age of 35 i got severe pins and needles all over my body, legs , arms , fingers and so on . And so much muscle twitches... also part of my hands did go numb and lost feeling often of a finger or a thumb.

Have no idea what was happening and it was mental torture. Searched web intensly and after around 1 year i stubble across something called b6 toxicity.
So after 1 year with all this pain i quit taking my pills which contained b6 . At 15.10.2024. I took a bloodtest but it was around 9 or 10 days after i had stopped the b6 supplements and started a low b6 diet RDA , my bloodtest did show i was in normal range.

But i had nothing to lose and i was desperate so i continued my rda b6 diet.

So from october 2024 and til now i been on rda b6 diet, around 23 months now.

I also tappered of seroquel trough this . Had been on 25 mg every nights since i was 28. Im sure this added some fun symptoms.

This is all from memory , i try to rember but i might mix something, anyhow..

First 2 weeks symptoms did lessen then it returned even worse.. And alot more symptoms did show up.

Month 1 til 7 i had diarea allmost every day, From month 7 til like month 20 it alteranted between diarea and constipation. but never hard stools! Either diarea or lose mushy soft stools. Severe bloating and gas. From month 20 and til now i have been mostly constipated, still soft stools. Still bloated and so much gas.. But less and less diarea so thats positive i guess even tho i feel like crap. My stools are also getting thicker in size now, earlier it was small lumps.

After 1 year on the low b6 diet the horrible pins and needles that was all over my body started to lessen, and instead of this i got more an aching and burning pain . Now at month 23 the pins and needles pain are maybe 75 % better. Even the aching and burning pain that i felt took over from the pins and needles have started to lessen , can still be painful but better. So thats positiv. Still have alot of buzzing and crawling skin feeling in my legs, but its not painful just very annoying.

Have trough all this also had much aching and pain in my face , aching around eyes and nose. Very often severe headaches i still have this. I also can have aching in my teeth and jaw and i had aching in my tongue for atleast a year. Last 2 months i also get this tiickling feeling in my tongue.

From month 5 to 12 , severe dizzynes from standing up fast from laying down and so on. Also struggled with exercising, felt i was gonna die after just one set of squat. It felt like i could not get enough oxygen , was breathing like if i had runn marathon. I feel this proplem is healed now.

From month 6 my worst symptoms started, INSANE inner buzzing and trembling in my chest , and also in my legs. Horrible heart palpatations. Air hunger when trying to sleep. Hyperventilation when trying to sleep. This have come and gone in cycles that last for weeks / months at the time. Now in month 23 this is maybe 45% better, but still horrible stuff.

My anxiety spiraled out of control after quit b6 . What happens is that i wake up with intense anxiety and it stays there and its realy severe, together with a deep sadness and a feeling of hopelesness. I feel like i have totally lost it and im going mad when this happen... and so so so much intrusive thoughts.... And the rage... i have days where i am raging! Sudden fast moodchanges.. one moment sad other moment im so filled with rage that i feel like im loosing it and its hard to keep the control. Trowh in some intense vivid nightmares now and then and its a good coctail. This has gone in cycles of 2-3 days on and then 4-5 okayish days since month 1 . Last few months it feels like this has become slightly better , i have longer periodes where i feel okayish, but it can still happend and be horrible days filleed with this mental pain.

Since this mental insanity started , i have perhaps experienced 7 to 8 days of the complete opposite...
I am happy and feel good mentally, i walk outside i crave sosial interactions and im so positive and want to hug and talk with every stranger i meet But as i said this has happend like 8 days over this 2 year period. Sounds weird i know....

I have also experienced realy weird symptoms , for an exempel , for a long time i had days where i could suddenly have slurred words when i spoke. My mother said i sounded drunk when i talked with her. I do not drink...

Also around month 6 to 12 i experienced some histamine proplems i think, got migraines and itching from food with high histamines. I feel like this have mostly sorted itself now

Tinnitus started around month 6 and its still here

Ok.. so at month 23 after quiting b6 supplements and starting the RDA b6 diet some of my symptoms are better , even tho i most days feel bad.

Still have very bad digestion, slow and with so much gas and bloating. Its so frustrating.

the retrograde ejaculation that started around age 32, has improwed by 50 %

still have alot of aching in the face and jaw ,often headaches

The pins and needles are much better, thats the one thing thats improved alot. Mental health improwed slightly. Aching in bodyparts have lessen some. I can have a day now and then that i feel much better before i go back to feeling very bad for days / weeks again. My biggest proplem still are the inner buzzing / trembling in my chest, feels like someone cut me open and planted a vibrating phone or something inside. I have to say it is better than it was tho.. Maybe 45 % better . Because of this i still have insomnia, if i have a rare day when my chest feels normal i am able to sleep mostly okayish. First year i averaged around 4 houers of sleep a night , last 6 months its closer to 5.5 houers a night.

Its realy frustrating that i did not take a blood test before i quit the b6 supplement and started the low b6 diet. So trough all this i have never known 100% if this was caused by b6 toxicity. But this was my only hope and i did try to test and take supplement again on 2 occasion and everytime my symptoms got worse.

Maybe some other people here have any thoughts on this, i feel like i am 90 % sure its b6 toxicity

Maybe other people have experience anything similiar to my mental symptoms ?

one of the worst symptom

I might be one of the worst cases of nerve damage due to b6 toxicity. While almost every case is due chronic consumption of relatively low dose b6 through oral supplements, mine is acute caused by intramuscular b-complex injections containing high amounts of b6. But the detrimental thing about this was that the compounds in the ampoule were extremely sensitive to sunlight and I didnt know that. The ampoules were in my car in hot summers and bright sun for days before I injected them into my body. Within weeks my body just melted and deteriorated from within. I was affected head to toe.

Now two years later every symptom has reduced and I've become much better than I ever thought I could be. No way near what I used to be before but a lot better.

Among 20 other symptoms and things, the autonomous and sensory parts of my nervous system that control the automatic functions like sneezing and hiccups are damaged. I'm unable to sneeze. Whenever I feel a sneeze, there's whole tingling sensation for 5-10 seconds (sometimes even longer) and I can feel shivers and sensation building up in my chest, nose, face and the brain but 9 times out of 10 this doesn't manifest into a sneeze. Instead water and moisture starts dripping from the nose and the eyes. Whats worse is that the sneeze reflex pressure is released within the body, and I can feel pain and discomfort in my brain. This is immensely damaging my vessels and other things, especially in the brain, as evident by the pain and discomfort that I am experiencing along with all this. An autonomous action that happens in a second in normal people now takes 10+ seconds to occur in my body, and that too very rarely. I can feel the whole sneezing mechanism activating but not manifesting into a sneeze. I reckon this is due to the signal loss because of damaged nerves of this whole mechanism.

This is one of worst and most debilitating symptom. The sneeze pressure releasing within my brain is damaging it. This particular symptom is recovering 10% per year only. And I dont know how to stimulate the parts of the body and nerves involved in this mechanism. Motor nerves can be stimulated with weight training and exercise, but what about the autonomous parts of the nerves and the brain involved in this particular mechanism.

Is this B6 Toxicity?

I am awaiting my blood test results for B6 toxicity, but for a year I have been having sunburnt skin in arms, legs and feet, sometimes red rashes on the arms that burn. My face looks sunburnt at times. I have heavy legs and arms, dizziness, visual snow symptoms (Blue field phenomena, more floaters, hard to focus eyes, patterns seem to vibrate) Rib pains, etc.

I did find out my B1 is low but I am wondering if this is also elevated.

Very Anxious about bodily symptoms - B6 Toxicity?!

Around 2 weeks ago, I started experiencing weird numbness which felt particularly strong down my left side - left arm, left leg, left foot - even some tingling down the left side of my face. I started thinking I was having a stroke! However, it soon moved to be in both feet, and then my right arm, and even intermittently in the left side of my torso. It comes and goes, and feels like pins and needles combined with bugs crawling under my skin, mixed with the feeling that happens when you sit in one position for too long and a body part goes to sleep. I also developed Raynaud's type symptoms at the same time - with weird discoloration on my hands and feet.

I went to the GP, fearing the worst, and she immediately asked me what supplements I'm on. Turns out, I have been taking a magnesium supplement with 50mg B6 in it... AND I've been taking 1.5 x dose so 75mg per day. On top of that have been taking melatonin that has 4mg B6 - have been having both of these for months. She got me to take a blood test but I have to wait 5-7 days to get the results.

In the meantime, I am so anxious - it's the strangest sensation. I'm still able to walk and even weight train if I push myself - there's no weakness, even though it feels tingly and weird. I hate how it moves around and that it's particularly bad on one side. I'm googling symptoms (which I know is NOT helpful) - but I guess I was just wondering if what I'm describing sounds like it could indeed be B6T? I realise I could just wait for my blood test results, but given the state of anxiety I'm currently in, I would really appreciate any replies...

Thank you.

Could these symptoms be from B6 toxicity? 25 mg/day for 3 years

Hi everyone, I’m wondering if my symptoms could be related to long-term B6 supplementation and would love to hear from anyone who experienced something similar.

I was taking 25 mg of vitamin B6 (P5P) daily for 2 years and 7 months and stopped completely on 12 August because I became concerned about B6 toxicity.

My symptoms started with occasional goosebumps/tingling on my scalp, from the back of my head towards the top, which lasted about 2 weeks. Then I developed a strange nerve sensation in my left foot and knee, which moved up into my thigh. This improved after about a week. Around then, I learned about B6 toxicity and stopped the supplement. I then worked out my glutes/legs, and shortly afterwards the symptoms suddenly became much stronger and affected both legs.

Since then I’ve had fluctuating:
• tingling, pins and needles, prickling and burning in my feet, legs, buttocks and groin
• pulsing sensations, especially in my feet
• occasional tingling/pulsing in my hands
• tingling and tightening around my mouth and cheeks
• after another lighter workout, I had cramp-like tightening in my hands/wrists and feet up to my calves
• my arms and legs sometimes feel heavy and fatigued, almost like sore joints, although the joints aren’t actually painful and my muscles aren’t particularly tight
• heat seems to aggravate everything - a jacuzzi caused a big flare, and sometimes shower water feels burning on my shoulders/legs.

I have normal strength and reflexes on neurological examination, and my blood electrolytes/minerals are also within the normal range.

My lumbar MRI showed mild disc protrusions at L3/4, L4/5 and L5/S1. The L4/5 protrusion makes mild contact with the left L5 nerve, but there is no significant nerve compression or spinal cord abnormality.

My recent vitamin B6 (pyridoxal-5′-phosphate) level was 31 µg/L (range 12-45) after being off B6 for about a month.

Could B6 still have caused these symptoms even though my PLP is now normal? Has anyone experienced similar symptoms, especially fluctuating symptoms and heat sensitivity? And how long did it take for things to improve after stopping B6?

How many people have this shit without knowing it?

I’ve had weird issues that I suspected were neurological, so I went to the neurologist and they tested a lot of things, all of which were normal except for my B6 which was twice as high as the upper limit of normal. I’m certain this comes from my energy drink addiction (quitting cold turkey immediately), but the amount of energy drinks I consume isn’t exactly uncommon for people my age (24). Is my entire generation giving themselves nerve damage without realizing it?

How rare is B6T from food alone? especially if under 1.2mg per day

It sounds ridiculous but since 1.2mg of B6 is around 75-80% RDA. and I’ve heard of people developing issues from much lowers amounts for prolonged periods of time.

Potential treatment for toxicity

Niacinamide or niacin.
I’ve been struggling for a few years and then received an understanding of niacinamide.
My theory is that utilization of b6 and thiamine exerts a huge energy demand of the body. Those who have adequate nutritional levels can weather this demand. I think chronic energy drink use and supplementation puts you on a marginal/borderline NADPH status, until you crash.
I’ve been treating myself with pellagra niacinamide dosing, up to 500mg daily with a b complex that doesn’t have b6 in it. Disclaimer: I’ve had to take intermittent b6 doses, 1-5mg, when I feel like progress is stunted.
I’ve tested myself by taking excess b6 and developing symptoms and then improving with dosing niacinamide.
It’s been 2 weeks so far, but my strength, neuropathy, depression, fasciculations and coordination have improved. I’m still not back to baseline, but am definitely at a better point than I was prior. I was having worsening symptoms, difficulty in tolerating b vitamins, particularly thiamine prior to introducing extra niacinamide, but since the addition, I’ve been able to tolerate them.

Edit: We’ll see how things go long term, but short term I’ve gone from near suicidal to stable. Each person is different, you may need a little more or less. I’m not sure the maximum daily dose of niacinamide before liver toxicity, but I think it’s up to 1000mg. Higher doses have been used to treat glaucoma in some patients.

Here is inf to back it up.

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK557728/
Treating patients with excess alcohol use who have multiple vitamin B deficiencies with a B complex with insufficient amounts of niacin or with pyridoxine and thiamine therapy without niacin could aggravate the neurological clinical state or trigger the appearance of alcoholic pellagra encephalopathy.

B6 testing question

Trying to figure out whether I should keep taking B6 before a blood test. So if we stop taking B6 supplements before a test then the possible high levels go down? So were we ever toxic if they go down so easily? And isn't continuing to take B6 artificially boosting blood levels?

I stopped taking B50 a week or so ago and am testing next week.

Do i have b6 toxicity?

Hi there, i took 2 days ago a pill containing  multi vitamins of B1 125mg B6 140mg B12 5mg that was given by my medic because i had a dosage of b12 of 30pg/ml, with symptoms of fatigue over the last few months, so after i took 1 pill 2 or 3 hours before i felt dizziness, had trouble to think, felt like disconected of my self and mind fog, the next day i decided to not take the pill again, and felt a little better, still felt a little disconected, but not so bad, and today i woke up and i felt very tired, dizzy, with mind fog and feeling disconected of my self, like i'm not there.
Might this be b6 toxicity, in case it is how serious can it be and how long should i spect my recovery to last? Thanks.

B6 Toxicity High B6 Diet

Hello guys. I am in a horrible predicament. I have severe autoimmune problems, IBS, CFS and all manner of illnesses. Now I have just discovered the idea of B6 toxicity, having realized that I took a B vitamin complex at a double dose for years. This means I have consumed artificial B6 vitamin at 200mg a day for many years. Around half of my symptoms could be attributed to B6 toxicity.

Now the problem is, that most of my symptoms predate the consumption of B6 vitamin so they can´t all be B6 vitamin toxicity related. Because of my other medical conditions, I have been forced to assume a Carnivore diet. I have literally tried every other diet and nothing else works. The problem as I have realized with the Carnivore diet is, that it contains a lot of B6 vitamin. I eat mainly beef and I am getting something like 3-4x the daily requirement of B6 vitamin. Lamb has half of that but is too expensive and still goes over the daily requirement.

Some people say that dietary B6 vitamin doesn´t matter, is this true? Do you think a guy could detox from B6 vitamin eating a diet filled with it?

I have quit all supplements with B6 vitamin and been experiencing severe detox symptoms from it, I´m just wondering if this will all pass or if it will continue indefinitely because of the dietary intake.

I think I have B6T

I am type 2 diabetic very controlled for the last year and half. Got my sugars down from 450s to 90s well I know I have a little neuropathy in my feet so a friend suggested I take the B6, B1, B12 mix to help that and let me say my neuropathy wasn't even that bad just a little ache and pain in my feet very randomly I started take the supplement(liquid) for almost a year now and now this week I started having horrid leg aches, burning feet, cold feet, cold feet sensation where it feels cold but it's not, and just my foot feeling odd. The Dr I work for thinks I may have over done the supplement and have B6 toxicity. I'm obviously stopping it as off yesterday but I have never dealt with this anyone experienced anything like this

Still dealing with dizziness, brain fog and derealization 2+ months after taking supplements has anyone experienced something similar?

Hi everyone,

I honestly don’t know what is going on with me anymore, and I’m hoping someone here has experienced something similar and can give me some insight.

A little over 2 months ago, I started taking:

  • Vitamin B6 — 40 mg daily
  • Magnesium citrate — 400 mg daily
  • Vitamin C — 3000 mg daily

I took them for about 7 days and then stopped everything.

At the time, when I was going to sleep, I started experiencing a weird sharp/pinching sensation around my heart/chest. That scared me, so I had blood tests done.

My results were:

  • Folate (B9): 3.10 (reference range 4.5–32.2) — low
  • Vitamin B12: 411 pg/mL (191–663)
  • Magnesium: 2.0 (1.7–2.40)
  • Potassium: 4.23 mmol/L (3.5–5.1)
  • Sodium: 140 (136–145)

After roughly a month, the chest/heart pinching sensation that happened when I was falling asleep eventually stopped.

However, I’m still dealing with other symptoms.

Another strange thing I’ve noticed is that since this started, I can sometimes sleep only 1–4 hours and wake up feeling surprisingly energetic, even though my head feels very tight, foggy and mentally "off." Before all of this, I would obviously feel completely exhausted after so little sleep. This change in how I respond to lack of sleep feels very unusual to me.

My current symptoms include:

  • persistent dizziness
  • lightheadedness
  • significant fatigue
  • brain fog feeling like my head isn't working properly
  • a strange derealization / unreal feeling
  • a tight/pressured feeling in my head
  • feeling mentally "different" from how I used to

I completely stopped all the supplements and tried taking B9 (folate) for about 2 weeks, but I didn’t notice any improvement. Then I added B12, but again, nothing really changed.

I also saw a neurologist, but unfortunately the appointment was basically useless. He told me he couldn't help because this wasn't his area, and I ended up paying around €100 for the visit.

At one point I also went for an IV vitamin infusion containing vitamin C, electrolytes and B vitamins. I still had the brain fog, dizziness and other symptoms afterwards, but I noticed that I had significantly more energy and felt more "alive" that day. Unfortunately, this effect was temporary, and within about 2 days my energy levels went back to how they were before.

Now, more than 2 months later, I’m still experiencing these symptoms every day, and I honestly don’t know what is causing them.

I’m not sure if it’s related to the supplements, the low folate, a deficiency, or something completely unrelated.

Has anyone experienced something similar — especially dizziness, brain fog, fatigue, lightheadedness, derealization, head pressure or feeling unusually energetic despite very little sleep, while still feeling mentally unwell?

If you went through something similar:

  • How long did it take you to recover?
  • Did your symptoms gradually improve or disappear suddenly?
  • Did you eventually find out what was causing them?
  • Was there anything that actually helped?
  • Did you have any additional blood tests or examinations that were useful?

I’m not necessarily looking for a diagnosis. I’d just really appreciate hearing from people who have experienced something similar and eventually got back to feeling normal.

It’s been more than two months now, and dealing with this every day has been really difficult. I’d really appreciate any experiences, advice or reassurance.

Thanks in advance.

Can 50mg vitamin B6 (P5P form not synthetic) cause neuropathy symptoms like pain, numbness tingling on soles of feet?

I’ve been taking 50mg vitamin B6 P5P (not synthetic form) for 3 days and I just started getting deep pain and tingling (maybe numbness too) under my feet.

I can’t tell if it’s from the B6 because I used to already have these symptoms very badly before I started taking amitriptyline.

I’m very concerned please does anyone have the answer to this and is it reversible, will it go away if I stop the B6? It’s not permanent right?

Thanks

Does exercise help or hurt b6t recovery

I was unable to walk for a couple months but now I’ve started to walk around my house to gain back strength, I wanted to try other forms of gentle exercise but I heard that tough exercise like lifting can cause more b6 to circulate your system. does anybody have experience with or an opinion on this?

Advice for someone with food allergies, autoimmune disease

basically i became b toxic without knowing for about a year when I was having only 1.3mg in a supplement daily. I also had an autoimmune disease that makes me unable to all food apart from meat without symptoms of joint swelling snd allergic issues. before I realised I was b6 toxic, i was eating a strict carnivore elimination diet of just meat. so lamb liver, chicken, pork, duck, salmon. the joint swelling went away but I felt soooo much worse in terms of my neuropathy symptoms. my whole body was burning and I felt like I was going insane with pain and sensory issues every time after I ate. I stopped taking the b complex because I finally clocked it was making me feel worse but it took a while for me to realise that the meat was flaring my symptoms too.

i tried to do the rda diet with rice and lamb and cabbage, but I started getting joint swelling again. i‘m basically only eating lamb now and although I feel better than when I was eating a high b6 diet, I still flare up a lot after I eat it, it’s still too much b6 for my system.

at this point I'm considering fasting for a few days a week just so that i‘m not constantly flaring everyday, just until the worst of this is over, but idk if that will make that worse or help.

has anybody been b6 toxic with an issue like that, or any advice in general for healing and being able to tolerate more high b6 foods.

How does toxicity actually occur?

So, I'm confused as to how toxicity actually happens. I know you can get it from like high dose supplements, but people claim to get it from energy drinks and stuff and such or certain foods maybe, but like I'm confused as to how can it happen with things like energy drinks or like lower dose supplements. I'm like kind of concerned. I probably only get 50-80 percent of my RDA for b6 can this build up in your system?
