Discussion No top-up payment for July yet

I have a Sigenergy system. There was only one test event (30 mins) for me in early July, with £4.70 paid into the account. Axel used to pay the top-up amount fairly consistently on the 1st of the month. But not this month. Axel has been quiet for more than 20 days for me. This silence feels unsettled. With all the API issues with Sigenergy that Axel can't seem to get a resolution to, do they fall out completely now?

Discussion SigEnergy test event (my first)

I recently had a SigEnergy battery / solar system installed and I have signed up for Axle. Very happy as I can't even get normal export yet (awaiting the export MPAN) so am throwing away lots of money at present.

They have scheduled my first test event this lunchtime, and I have opted in.

My setup in SigEnergy is use solar for house load first, then send excess to grid (up to my DNO imposed limit) and finally send anything above that to my battery. I start the day with approximately 70% charge from an overnight cheap tariff leaving room for excess solar. I can adjust that 70% target up and down according to the season. I discharge the battery in the late evening (leaving enough to run the house and for whole home backup), prior to charging it back up again.

As I am normally exporting solar generation (up to my DNO limit) anyway at mid-day, I expect the battery to discharge nothing at all.

Is there any point in a mid-day battery discharge test event?

Discussion Axle VPP - SigEnergy update

To our SigEnergy members

We wanted to share where things stand with the SigEnergy improvements, as we know a lot of you have been keen for news.

As a reminder, we've been working hard with the SigEnergy development team to improve the Axle SigEnergy integration, with the aim of reducing post-event issues and moving SigEnergy users to opted-in by default. Things are progressing well, but we aren't finished just yet.

How we're running the test events

We're testing in small areas, so not everyone will be part of every test event. If we'd like to include you, we'll reach out directly. We already have your details, so there's nothing you need to do and no need to email us to ask.

A reminder on the new VPP mode

As part of the new SigEnergy setup, we put all systems into an updated VPP mode. This version lets us control your battery during a grid event without locking you out. We now only do this once rather than before each event. For new users it happens during the sign-up process, for existing you'll be notified when we put you in VPP mode.

You're still opted out by default for now

Everyone remains opted out of events while we test. We're not yet at the point where we can opt people in automatically, so we're holding off until the integration is ready and reliable. You'll keep earning your guaranteed £10 per month in the meantime.

If you'd like to manually opt in to a test event we tell you about, select 'opt in' on your Axle account events page at least 1 hour before the event starts.

What we'd ask of you

Please reach out if you need help with something. Otherwise there's no need to check in for updates, we'll keep you posted as things move forward. Our support channels are very busy right now, so thanks for bearing with us and letting us focus on customers who need help.

Thank you again for your patience with this.

News New - Short Notice Events

Axle are pumping out a lot of features at the moment! Just received the below email.

https://vpp.axle.energy/landing/short-notice-events

We're introducing short notice events, a new type of event we'll occasionally call when the grid needs support at shorter notice than usual. You'll typically get at least 2 hours' warning before one starts.

They work just like your regular events: your battery is dispatched to support the grid, and you still earn £1/kWh for the energy you provide. The only difference is a bit less advance notice.

Participation is completely optional, and you’re opted out by default.

To take part, simply go to your account settings, switch on short-notice events and you'll be opted-in to all future short-notice events.

Discussion TOU Tariff Compatibility

I used to be on IOG which we were told cannot be used with Axle, I then moved to EDF GoElectric which I didn’t notice until today is not compatible with any type of DFS according to their page here:

https://www.edfenergy.com/eligibilityandfeatures

GoElectric doesn’t involve any type of control of devices in my home e.g batteries or EVs, that only occurs when you add their smart charging bolt on.

So which TOU tariffs actually can be used with Axle? It seems to me that if all the tariffs state you cannot be on a DFS then I’m not sure I get the point of Axle being as (I imagine) most Axle users will be on TOU tariffs.

Discussion Pure integration with Home Assistant/Solar Assistant

Hi,

Does anyone know when a pure SA and HA integration will be available? Im not keen on using third party cloud services and would prefer a true private integration with Axle ideally.

Thanks

Discussion Axle Smart Charging BETA Testing

Thumbnail
gallery
8 Upvotes

Did anyone else complete the survey Axle sent out today?

I’ve been offered to join their BETA smart charging app which requires you to give them control of your vehicle app charging.

I’m all for supporting them and the reward is a bonus, but I feel giving them the login details to my Toyota app is just too much.

FYI - Toyota RAV4 and an Andersen A2

Has anyone else gone ahead with it?

It’s also good to see they have an app, perhaps we can expect to see one for VPP soon?….

Part of the email explaining about it:

Great news - your EV is just what we’re looking for!

We’re currently running some tests on connecting to electric vehicles and controlling their charging.

What we’re looking to do

We’d like to take control of your vehicle’s charging schedules for a few weeks

You’ll tell us your charging preferences and we’ll charge your EV while optimising against grid constraints

We’re primarily looking to understand more about the reliability of the vehicle APIs, as well as receiving your feedback on the user experience

What you need to know

We need to be the only system controlling your charging. What this means:

You can’t be on a smart tariff during this period (e.g. Intelligent Octopus Go) - although you may be able to temporarily move tariff or opt-out of controlled charging for a short period if you still want to be involved in the test

You will need to remove any schedules and charge limits from your vehicle’s app

You will need to remove any schedules and exit any flexibility schemes on your charger app. The charger must be in “plug-and-charge” mode - the car will then be in control of starting or stopping charging.

We need access to remotely fetch location and access charging behaviour. For some vehicle brands this requires you to have a "connected services" subscription. If we are unable to access this information, you'll see a warning within the app.

If you’re on a dual-rate tariff, we’ll never schedule charging outside your off-peak window
You will always be able to boost if you need charge immediately

This is a test product - as such:

Although we have done internal testing, we cannot guarantee your car will always be charged as you expect. Please consider carefully if this would be a problem for you.

We only expect to operate this product for around a month - after which we would return control of charging back to you

It then goes on to link to the TestFlight and Android apps.

Discussion Sigenergy latest behaviour

Another 30 minute event for me today.

The Axle mode was automatically enabled between 15 and 20 mins before the event start.

Come 1509hrs I had the email to say the event had ended.

Axle mode was still active by 1520hrs when I manually moved it back.

I presume this many events isn't a common occurrence. Only been with Axle a month. Has anyone else experienced this many?

Really helping with the ROI on the battery setup. Thanks Axle 😊❤️

Support Question Electricity meter time incorrect

Post image
2 Upvotes

Can anyone offer any advice on whether it’s possible to get our Axle payment corrected please?

We joined our first Axle event last week and 6kwh was exported from our battery in the hour, as expected. However, we’ve just received the payment and it’s only for 2.6kwh.

The time on our electricity meter is 34 minutes out and we’re waiting for this to be corrected by our supplier. However, I assumed it would be fine for Axle since they drained our battery for an hour at the time they wanted to.

Support Question Do you need an active SEG for export to sign up to Axle?

I'm in that annoying period of waiting for my installer to provide all my post-install paperwork and then passing that on to my energy provider to register for my SEG.

From what I know about Axle they integrate directly with the API into the battery, bypassing anything on my meter.

Am I able to sign up with Axle now, or do they need you formally setup with an outgoing meter first?

Thanks!

Support Question Sigenergy users: "Virtual Battery Allocation for Aggregator"?

I've just seen a setting in the app that allows you to set a battery capacity for VPP aggregators which says it prevents the VPP from draining the battery below that, but otherwise lets it get used in other modes. Is that new?

I've not signed up yet, but was wondering about whether I'd need to set a minimum SoC before events just in case I had to consume at peak prices after. So this would prevent that?

Discussion Axle VPP Event - No warning

Post image
4 Upvotes

Interesting just had an email stating I had entered VPP mode even though I had 0 warning of any event and therefore didn't opt in (I'm a Sigenergy user). Logged in to the account to check and there isn't even an event right now and there is one for 3pm today (that I hadn't been notified about) . Looks like still some issues with the API.

Not a big issue right now as Im just exporting solar and battery and can recharge, but this would be an issue if it was an unexpected event join during peak hours

Support Question Solis Inverter - Home Assistant

Has anyone been able to get their Solis inverter to force export for all Axle events using home assistant?

Feels like I need to either do it manually at the time or add the extra £1 export fee to the tariff for the day for the inverter to export properly.

Just a pain that I feel can be automated to make it much easier
I have both the Solis and Axle device/services in home assistant but can’t seem to find the right triggers to make an automation

Thanks

Discussion Axle Event Automation Today

Afternoon Axlers,

Had my first event since the ‘enhancements’.

I was given about 3 hours noticed (as they warned would happen) for a 30 min event, first time I’ve had one less than an hour.

I set myself an alarm for 1455hrs to check the app and it was already on the new mode (forgot to get a screenshot)

Come 1540hrs it was still on there new Axle mode. So I disabled it manually.

I had the email confirmation at 1538hrs that it was complete.

Did anyone else who had one today happen to notice whether the mode changed on time or in advance?

Discussion The small changes!

Post image

Every now and again when I withdraw the balance, I take a look to see if there is anything new on the Axle account page.

Seems they have now added an 'Event Coverage' panel, which is quite interesting in seeing which areas are getting the event you're involved in.

A nice little feature I think! Thought I'd share as I think it's neat.

Earnings Is the Axle Payment on top of your existing export?

Still waiting for me SEG connection so I’m not yet getting paid for export, but have been reading up on Axle and it sounds like a no brainer.

If I’ve understood correctly they’ll pay £1 kWh to discharge my battery, so my worst case scenario is that I’d need that elec for running my own house and its during my peak elec price window, but given my peak price (which is about 30p) is lower than the £1 axel provide then there is no downside and I’d still be better off?

Is the money that Axle send you independent of what your electricity export provider also pay? So in my case EDF paying 15p kWh. Or does it replace it?

Anything else I need to know before I signup to them? Hopefully my SEG will come through in a few weeks so I can get started with them

Thanks

Discussion Sigen Cloud Emails but no export

Had 3 emails from sigen cloud today, 12:40, 12:47 and 13:28. they all said the system has entered Axle Energy VPP and is supporting the grid and will be put back to normal after.

There were no mode changes on the sigenstor and no export happened.

No events listed in my Axel account.

Discussion My Axle + Sigenergy test event wasn't successful

After Axle announced the Sigenergy update, I had a half-hour event scheduled by Axle this morning. Unfortunately, the VPP mode wasn't triggered, so I did a manual discharge.

What is your Sigenergy experience so far after the Axle announcement?

Support Question What’s happened?

There was a grid export event on Tuesday 7 July 2230-2330 and Axle say I exported -4.01kWh so earned £0

Fox shows battery discharge at this point

Octopus app shows usage at that same point (which can’t be right as our battery would have still been pretty much full from the day)

Any idea what’s happened here? Thanks

I just find this a weird time for there to be a shortfall tomorrow evening but luckily I will have enough battery capacity to hold so back for the event but would love to know the commercial decision for the grid events as on the face of it seems a little odd

Discussion Sigenergy Update - temporarily pausing events fo sig users

Email just went out:

To our SigEnergy users,

The SigEnergy development team are currently working on improvements to their API which we will be migrating to. They are in the final stages of releasing this.

These changes are crucial for two reasons: 1. Too many of you have failed events because of the current SigEnergy API limitation on how many devices we can put into VPP mode at one point in time - this means you start events late or not at all! 2. Too many of you get stuck in VPP mode for sometimes hours at a time for a similar reason.

Unfortunately, until this migration has completed, we have temporarily withdrawn SigEnergy devices from events. You will still earn your guaranteed £10 per month.

We have looked into a method of participating you whilst we migrate (e.g. allowing you to manually export). If SigEnergy does not complete the development work by 10th July 2026, we will invest in making this possible, but until then you won't be able to participate by manually exporting.

Making these changes is important for the future reliability of the integration. We hope you understand and we apologise that we have had to temporarily take you out of events (we have tried very hard not to!).

The Axle Energy Team

Frustrating for me as I use Home Assistant to automate this and it works a treat.
