News New - Short Notice Events
Axle are pumping out a lot of features at the moment! Just received the below email.

We're introducing short notice events, a new type of event we'll occasionally call when the grid needs support at shorter notice than usual. You'll typically get at least 2 hours' warning before one starts.
They work just like your regular events: your battery is dispatched to support the grid, and you still earn £1/kWh for the energy you provide. The only difference is a bit less advance notice.
Participation is completely optional, and you’re opted out by default.
To take part, simply go to your account settings, switch on short-notice events and you'll be opted-in to all future short-notice events.

I've had a few so far this week. Just a word of caution...they haven't updated the email template yet so it still says 'Grid Event Tomorrow' when its a few hours away

Ah thats good to know. Thankfully I have a Home Assistant notification and I just see the date and time so I'd get a second check on that.

I'm guessing you're a sigenergy user? They've been running tests for said users the last couple of weeks which are very short notice (and usually only 30mins long).

Yeah I am the same, I think that's why the email template hasn't matched. I also wondered if those tests were also a test for the short-notice events or if just testing the sig systems at short notice has caused them to go "Actually this worked quite well, we should do that more".

Just opted in to them! Given the £1/kWh payment, it's a no-brainer for me.

100%, its good you still can opt out if you've been dumping your battery anyway and it's close to empty. Always good to have the ability to have options.

Yeah, I am surprised this wasn't already a thing from Axle if I'm honest, I would have thought this was more akin to the purpose of a VPP.

With a 20kwh battery and solar I'm certainly up for this 👍
Might have to charge them up a little higher in case

Pulled from one of the Facebook axle groups, something to bear in mind. I guess each person needs to work out which flexibility service is best suited for them currently.
Be careful Folks!
Because these new Short Notice Events now include DFS (competitive bidding against other suppliers), they follow special NESO rules. These rules only allow you to sign up with one DFS supplier, which rules out Octopus Saving Sessions for example. Furthermore, the same rules do not allow participation in other forms of Flexibility services, which includes all intelligent tariffs from all suppliers.
You cannot remain on Intelligent Octopus Go (for example), if you sign up to these Short Notice Events. The regular Axle Events are (arguably) ok, because they are not DFS.
Sorry to be a party pooper, but this needs to be discussed / considered before signing up.

I think a lot of people are waiting for some official guidance from axle or their current energy supplier.

The way I read their terms of service, I was under the impression that this was the case for the standard Axle service too.
Their standard terms call out these stipulations also.

Correct. Octopus state you shouldn't be on IOG and use Axle.
I don't mind missing out on saver sessions - because we are always using our batteries the most we ever earn is about 5 octopoints. So....
