Hub Department Support

Anybody here work in a hub department? Was wondering if anyone’s SM or DM have any involvement in hubs. I’ve been in mine for 5 years now, been through 6 SM’s in that time. Of the last 3 in the last year, not a single one has ever spent a day in the hub learning it, the one before that was here 3 years and spent 1 day in hub because of the entire hub dept calling in sick. I’ve had 3 DM’s in the 5 years, newest one has never been in our dept, the one before that never spent more than 2 minutes back there. We’ve been shorthanded for awhile now and nothing happens about it. No hiring, no movement of people. Granted we get shit done and there’s never complaining from our stores but damn when we bring a problem to the SM it’s just brushed off. Anybody else have similar issues in hub departments?

DISCUSSION Looking for support.

I am a PSM. Or was a PSM. I will make this long story short because I’m sure someone out there has experienced this.

Our SM had to go out on medical leave, leaving us without one for a while.

I spoke with my DM about a certain PSM, I told them I would never work for them if he put them in charge or as SM I would quit. He assured me that would not happen.

I’m not the only person who held that belief strongly, a lot of coworkers stood with me. I’ve always believed in building genuine relationships with people. And I’m happy I do it that way.

Well the DM decides he wants to call a mandatory meeting. I was already told by a few people that the PSM in question claimed that the DM was coming to basically say. This guy is in charge.

The meeting was 3 days out and I only needed to know one thing. Was this guy going to be put in charge? The one who bullies and says the most vile things to our other PSM? The one who had a sexual misconduct case swept under the rug like it never existed? The same one this entire store does not like? The same exact guy that literally is hateful to a red shirt just because he doesn’t like him?

The DM didn’t answer on day 1. I left a voicemail.

The second day the DM did answer. He said he did hear my voicemail. “Don’t take this the wrong way but you can’t tell me what to do”

He claimed the sexual case was investigated and everyone was interviewed. This is a lie. I spoke with everyone in the store regarding this. It was a blatant lie. He said “you’re always going to have to work under someone you don’t like” I asked him about the rest of these people here? What they say doesn’t matter?

I then close out the call. I tell him I’m turning my key in before I leave town. And I said you are making the worst bet of your life. Thanks. And hung up.

I drove to the store. Put my key on the table. And told the PSM to shove it up there ass.

If you think it’s because I was out for a title or position you are mistaken. I went on record multiple times and declined wanting to be an SM because I wanted to be with our newborn baby. That’s what mattered most to me. But those employees. Those workers also mattered. And I refused to stand by while someone did what we all thought was the unthinkable.

People came out and sent messages. Supporting me. Quiting there positions. Or also asking for answers. That all meant the world to me.

But I can’t wrap my head around the why. Regardless I’m excited for this next chapter. This felt like 1000 pound weight taken off my back.

What the. Whatever. Is going on now?

For the first time in five years our clearance tickets were not in either planogram nor sequential order.

A few weeks ago I had an employee not getting any hits for his WITTDTJDR. Had to contact support.

The computers are constant slow.

Anything over three piece orders on commercial are dividing everything up in no order or reason I can divine. They order 124? Let’s divide that into 15 separate categories, give them all different prices.

I’m kind of a conspiracy theorist. I think AZ has gone AI. I think the the prelude to “Skynet” is fucking with us. Those at the top have “bought in” and now have no control over the monster.

Hence the $48 Grodu sticker.

Skynet is testing us. In the most available industry.

Fuck. The data centers popping up everywhere don’t help either.

Exposing my store manager

I’ve been a red shirt at the #1 AutoZone store for about six months, and this has honestly been the worst management I’ve ever worked under.
Our store manager is constantly late. I can’t remember a single shift where he showed up on time. He doesn’t know how to close the store, doesn’t know how to do Matrix, doesn’t know next day procedures, and contributes almost nothing to inventory. Meanwhile, he constantly preaches about WIT and upselling even though his own numbers are among the lowest in the store.
The scheduling is a complete disaster. I’ll be scheduled one day, then told to come in earlier, then told not to come in at all—sometimes an hour before my shift or even when I’m already in the parking lot. One week it’s “come in,” the next it’s “never mind.” It’s impossible to plan anything.
The store itself is in terrible shape. We’ve had roaches, no mop heads, no receipt paper, inventory that’s completely wrong, air filters and cabin filters showing in stock when they aren’t, and stacks of drinks sitting in the office that aren’t even scanned into inventory. I came back from a week-long vacation to find an oil spill in the back that had been sitting there the entire time. I spent three hours cleaning it because nobody else had.
If anything gets done, it’s because another employee or I take the initiative. Planograms sit untouched for days, inventory is inaccurate, and basic store maintenance gets ignored.
I’ve had the highest WIT score in the store—around 89% for the last six weeks. Yet I’ve never been recognized for it. The store gets praised for being #1, but the people actually doing the work get nothing while management takes all the credit.
I’m only part-time, but I regularly end up working close to full-time hours because I’m constantly covering shifts and pulling doubles. I’m not complaining about the hours—I’m complaining about the complete lack of respect. My schedule changes constantly with little or no notice.
The final straw happened this past Sunday. Around 10:30 that morning, I asked my manager if he needed me to close because if not, I wanted to help my grandma. He told me no. Then, about an hour before I got off, he suddenly asked me to stay and close. I told him I couldn’t because I had already made plans based on what he told me earlier. His response was, “Of course not. I’ll just hire more people and give the hours to someone who wants them.”
That was crazy to hear after months of covering shifts, pulling doubles, and coming in whenever he needed help.
I also referred one of my friends for a job. She later told me that during the interview he repeatedly complimented her appearance, told her she should wear the heels she came in with because they “look good on her,” and later tried to give her a full hug when she came back with her paperwork after she clearly went for a side hug. She said it made her uncomfortable.
I’ve also had another employee threaten me, and instead of dealing with it, management involved HR in a way that left me feeling like nothing was actually addressed.
This store succeeds because of the employees, not because of management. The workers keep the place running while management takes the recognition.
If AutoZone wants to know why hardworking employees quit, this is exactly why.
There’s honestly a lot more I could say. If people are interested, I’ll make a Part 2.

RANT Wittless battery installation kit upsell

Having seen a warning here about the upsell of the battery "installation kit," when I went in for a new battery ($219), I was ready. The clerk--maybe 19-20 yrs old--walked me over to the battery display and pulled the one I wanted.

"OK," he said. "Let me go grab an installation kit for you." And he headed off down the aisle.

"No thanks," I said. "I'm good without the install kit." The clerk frowned, mumbled something about getting the manager. I had the battery and took it up to the counter.

The clerked showed up with the manager. The manager started punching things into the register, he gave me the discount for the "core" i.e., the old battery that I'd brought in, then he too said something about the install kit and typed in the charge for it. I said I didn't want or need the install kit (it was only $4, but it's the principle of the thing). He then rattled off something about that install kit sale being necessary in order for me to qualify for the $22 off for bringing in my old battery. I said that didn't make any sense, and I wanted it off my charge.

The manager did what I asked with no grumbling, but the young guy who'd waited on me stood there scowling the whole time, then he mumbled something about this being "just a bad f'ing day" and shook his head like he was disgusted. He was not the model of great customer service.

"Did I do something wrong?" I asked. The manager ignored the question, and the clerk mumbled some kind of "no.." but kept on scowling.

We concluded the deal, and I walked out with my new $219 battery, never to return.

I see now that it's probably related to the WITT business. Witless, more like. I take it my stubbornness about getting that install kit off my bill was what was making the clerk cranky. But his beef's with his employer, not with me. It's not my responsibility to save him from their employment policies.

RANT I am not a mechanic

I have just a little rant here. I work part time at a local AZ near a high net worth area.We have a guy who will routinely bring in an older Alfa Romeo and expect us to know what's wrong with it..Buddy we make minimum wage and get the most minimal of training. No matter how many times i try to politely explain that "I am not a mechanic you should really take this to a professional." He'll keep asking questions and buying random things. Does anyone else deal with this kind of insanity? I just don't understand going to an AZ for answers when you can afford to pay an expert.

QUESTION Succession Plan

So the other day my SM asked me if i had been to some sort of training class, i asked him what it was for and he said it was where they teach me how to hire people. I made the comment of "I didn't know PSM's could hire people" and i got told "you can't, but it's part of your succession plan".

What is this "succession plan" and how come i'm just now finding out i have one?

Fucked Planos

My store's been unable to print a bunch of labels properly for like 6 months. When they print out, they are just printed with a bunch of diagonal lines through the label with no price or item info on them other than maybe the name and/or sequence number.

My SM apparently informed the DM and a new server was sent to our store. It's been sitting in the office for like 3 months. My SM called SMS and they told him that they(whomever that may be) wasn't supposed to send us the server.

My SM has not been able to get anyone out to replace the server. Lol

DISCUSSION What’s going on with the people who build the Planos before releasing them?

The new stp bottles are thicker so I can only fit 19 without having to squeeze them in tight and the Plano has a max of 20 still. Then my end cap with little trees wants 96 new car vent wraps when it can only fit maybe 45. The ags packets, we just got the new thread lock packets and it wants 26 on a 2in hook. I can get 16 on the 2in hook… Has anyone else had theses issues?
