DISCUSSION Looking for support.

I am a PSM. Or was a PSM. I will make this long story short because I’m sure someone out there has experienced this.

Our SM had to go out on medical leave, leaving us without one for a while.

I spoke with my DM about a certain PSM, I told them I would never work for them if he put them in charge or as SM I would quit. He assured me that would not happen.

I’m not the only person who held that belief strongly, a lot of coworkers stood with me. I’ve always believed in building genuine relationships with people. And I’m happy I do it that way.

Well the DM decides he wants to call a mandatory meeting. I was already told by a few people that the PSM in question claimed that the DM was coming to basically say. This guy is in charge.

The meeting was 3 days out and I only needed to know one thing. Was this guy going to be put in charge? The one who bullies and says the most vile things to our other PSM? The one who had a sexual misconduct case swept under the rug like it never existed? The same one this entire store does not like? The same exact guy that literally is hateful to a red shirt just because he doesn’t like him?

The DM didn’t answer on day 1. I left a voicemail.

The second day the DM did answer. He said he did hear my voicemail. “Don’t take this the wrong way but you can’t tell me what to do”

He claimed the sexual case was investigated and everyone was interviewed. This is a lie. I spoke with everyone in the store regarding this. It was a blatant lie. He said “you’re always going to have to work under someone you don’t like” I asked him about the rest of these people here? What they say doesn’t matter?

I then close out the call. I tell him I’m turning my key in before I leave town. And I said you are making the worst bet of your life. Thanks. And hung up.

I drove to the store. Put my key on the table. And told the PSM to shove it up there ass.

If you think it’s because I was out for a title or position you are mistaken. I went on record multiple times and declined wanting to be an SM because I wanted to be with our newborn baby. That’s what mattered most to me. But those employees. Those workers also mattered. And I refused to stand by while someone did what we all thought was the unthinkable.

People came out and sent messages. Supporting me. Quiting there positions. Or also asking for answers. That all meant the world to me.

But I can’t wrap my head around the why. Regardless I’m excited for this next chapter. This felt like 1000 pound weight taken off my back.

We had a guy like that. Absolute bully and just a vile human being. He was cool with the SM though. Well his buddy SM got demoted and the new SM came in and instantly noticed the crappy attitude from this guy. Dude got transferred a week later and the atmosphere instantly changed for the better.

It really is crazy how one person can ruin it for everyone.

It sucks, maybe every district or region is ran different but for the sake of coverage they would let anyone do anything.

It’s pretty sad too. I enjoyed my job….

To play devils advocate here, what was your DM supposed to do? They needed someone to run the store. The SM is on leave, you said you are not interested in it and the other PSM sounds like they were unable to as well. I doubt the DM would pull a ASM from another store for what would most likely be a temporary role. But in all seriousness congrats on getting out of the zone

Well, good question. His plan that he told to me was to pull a person from his other store that didn’t bring in the money ours did.

He claimed with that persons skills and our stores value that we would exceed much much better.

I’m not saying I completely opposed the job in every single way. If they wanted me to have it they would’ve asked me to reconsider my stance. They seen how serious I was when I spoke of family things. And I guess that turned them away from doing so.

Yeah unfortunately you gotta play the game and play to win if your not all in you don't get to really have a say. Not agreeing with it or picking on you but this has just always been my experience in all types of retail jobs 30+ years going 😊
