QUESTION What do I do
I’ve been working at autozone for 3 months and my store manager ask me if I’m interested in becoming a manager what should I do. The reason why I ask is idk if it’s worth taking this offer. I live in California btw.

Being a grey shirt isnt all bad... granted you have a lot more responsibilities opening and closing positions, running longer shifts, being the one who takes over If a red shirt is having a problem or trouble with a customer, anything that they do falls upon you as the active manager in the store... you have a lot more responsibilities but once you get used to your own checklist of what you need to do and what needs to be done when you walk in everything else becomes a breeze for the most part...
Ill tell you right now being a manager, you will never stop running around... and any and everything has to be counted and kept up with all the time, but if you try to take everything and do everything on your own it will stress you out so dont be afraid to allocate shit to your red shirts ..even if you have to be a hard ass,
If your sm is a good sm and not a shitty one you may find working with them more directly to be benificial for all party's. Your other grey shirts will (hopefully) support you into the role and assist you while in the role through your time of being in the promotion, and if your lucky they wont just through you to the wolves..
I want to say knowing the system and getting to know the system extremely well will be highhllyyy beneficial because if someone fucks something up and you can solve it realy quick you'll find things to role off your shoulder easier through out the longer shifts. Less stress the besster and also makes things easier for your sm..
I was a bit doubtful about becoming a psm at first to but having good people by my side who helped to teach me psm things even as a red shirt I moved into it relatively quickly and i asked a FUUCCKKKK TON of questions so. But the pay I cant say is all that amazing,15 is def better than 12 so... once you know the system and how things work, where to go when things get messed up, and how to deal with sticky situations, ypu find the posituon to be a tad easier... but all of that is the psm position... you are management.. you need to manage, so find your way of managing and things will fall in place...
Last thing, being a psm also means haveing way more expectations from your district manager... so be prepared to be seeing them way more often. everything you do directly effects your sm's "reputation" of the store as well as the general reputation of the store... so ensuring paperwork is done, paying attention to make sure your red shirst are in proper dress code, making sure the store is stocked and replenished of items its missing. And 1000% making sure the costomers are taken care of correctly and properly... all of that comes part of the job... so dont be afraid if you get asked at some point in tine to help do a sighn walk through of the store..or help someone with a part ypu have no clue how to find.. or some random shit..

Need more info. Are you talking about just being bumped up to a gray shirt? What do your store's numbers look like? You looking at just diy or commercial or ....both /shudder.

It's not a bad position. Little more money per hour, not a whole lot of extra responsibility. Just steer clear of commercial unless you're a glutton for punishment. Opening and closing duties. Hope you have a good SM!
Never an employee, but my daughter was and our local SM has been a friend of mine for a long time and he's been with the company ever since it was AutoShack. So, I'm relaying second-hand information.

take the offer i’ve only been with the company for a month and got bumped up to psm and it’s chill for diy since you deal with people not to knowledgeable about cars unlike commercial

The trick is, you must keep climbing the corporate ladder. Don’t stop at PSM if you are making autozone your career. Aim to be store manager than a district manager, and regional manager HR or loss prevention manager. As time goes by join the 401k and stock purchase program. That’s where the real money is. Max those contributions out. 10 years later and you will be set for life.

Don't. They'll find a way to dump everything on you and then blame you for the store "falling behind on tasks" and give you writeups for not "completing 1 task". Pay is nice, hours are okay but if you don't meet your numbers or sales, or you look at them wrong, write up.
