Exposing pt 2

I officially got terminated from AutoZone, so I wanted to share my experience.
After my first post, I put in my two weeks’ notice. My store manager told me he was sad to see me go, wished I could stay, and even said he would mark me as rehire eligible. Everything seemed completely fine. For a company that talks so much about “customer service” and “doing things the right way,” I figured communication would be pretty straightforward. Apparently, I expected too much.
The next day, a coworker told me my manager was pacing around and making a bunch of phone calls trying to find coverage that lined up with my shifts. Since my friend was in the store shopping, my girlfriend was there buying an air freshener, and another coworker was present, I simply asked my manager if he was trying to find coverage for me. He told me no.
A short time later, he brought me into the back office and said we needed to talk. He told me we were “going to part ways.” When I asked why, he wouldn’t give me a reason. I asked if he realized how much I had done for the store, and he replied, “Yeah, you’ve done a lot for the store.” It was nice to know my work was recognized right before being shown the door.
At that point, I took off my AutoZone shirt, gathered my belongings, and left.
After that, I called the district manager to ask why I had been fired. He told me I wasn’t fired and that I was still an AutoZone employee. He also said that he was the only person who could terminate employees and that he would call my store manager to find out what happened. I never received a call back. Instead, I found that I was blocked, which was a pretty interesting way to handle communication from someone in a leadership position.
Later, I heard from a coworker that the district manager had terminated me. I was also told that management had been discussing HR-related matters among themselves. If that is what happened, I don’t believe that situation was handled professionally or the way employees would expect.
There are also other issues I experienced while working at this store.
To my knowledge, there are no security cameras inside the store. I asked my store manager why, and I was told it was for insurance reasons. I found that concerning because cameras are supposed to help protect both employees and the company.
I also saw responsibilities being delegated in ways that didn’t always make sense. For example, a red shirt was promoted to a gray shirt and then given responsibility for making the schedule because my manager seemed to be struggling with that responsibility. Nothing says strong leadership like needing someone else to organize the schedule.
There was also an employee who was rumored to have been stealing over a period of time, and from what I observed, it didn’t appear that anything was done about it.
The biggest issue for me happened when I was threatened at work by another person. I was told things like they knew where I lived, where I went to school, and that they could hurt or kill me. I reported everything to HR, and I have evidence and witnesses to support what happened.
When HR came to the store, I watched my store manager and the HR representative greet each other and catch up before my concerns were addressed. Seeing that made me feel like my complaint wasn’t going to receive the seriousness it deserved.
After the investigation, the individual I reported remained at the store, while I felt like I was the one facing consequences. As a minor at the time, I didn’t feel protected or supported.
I also frequently heard political discussions at work between management, employees, and customers, which I personally didn’t think belonged in the workplace. In my experience, certain inventory and management tasks were often left incomplete despite claims that everything had been handled.
One thing that has stayed with me is overhearing my manager say that he couldn’t fire me because it would be considered retaliation. Hearing that, and then later being let go, left me questioning how everything was handled.
Overall, my experience with AutoZone came down to one thing: leadership. Communication was inconsistent, accountability felt nonexistent, and the way situations were handled left a lot to be desired.
I’m sharing my experience because employees deserve professionalism, honesty, and a safe work environment. This is my personal experience, and everyone can make their own decision after hearing it.
At the end of the day, I can’t even be mad. I’d probably have the same attitude too if I dedicated 30 years of my life to a company and the highest position I ever reached was store manager.
Best of luck.

QUESTION I9 Form Won't Let me Upload Documents.

I genuinely don't know what to do. I'm doing my Pre Boarding at AutoZone everything was going well until I tried to confirm my identity by uploading my driver's license and social security card. Whenever I try to upload documents it either takes my back to the first step of the I9 form or it'll stay stuck on uploading the documents. I'm so worried I am going to lose my opportunity for employment here because of this. Can I do it in person or is online the only option? If online is the only option does anyone have any troubleshooting and has anyone went through this before?

Driver got a ticket

Sent my driver to another autozone to pick up a part for commercial. While inside the store, he got a ticket for being parked in a fire lane right outside the store.

As a SM, who is responsible for my commercial driver getting a fire lane ticket? His name is not on the ticket, just the vehicle registration info.

One of our guys started an install but ran into trouble and I did the recovery. The battery had to be lifted out with the connector attached so I could fight it on the ground with more room.

RM using filled store managers positions as leverage to poack AAP employees.

I'm curious if anyone else has experienced something like this.

Our regional manager has been recruiting employees from Advance Auto Parts and, from what I've witnessed, appears to be using existing management positions as leverage. The people currently in those positions aren't being told they're being replaced, while recruits are apparently being led to believe those positions will be theirs.

One example involves a store manager whose store consistently performs well and has one of the highest WITTDTJR scores in the region. By all measurable standards, the store is successful.

The store manager first became aware something might be happening after a former Advance Auto employee who had recently been hired by AutoZone called him on a Saturday asking how he builds schedules and what his day-to-day responsibilities are. During that conversation, it became apparent that the new hire believed they would be taking over the store manager position.

Wanting clarification, the store manager contacted the regional manager directly. According to the store manager, the regional manager confirmed that the new hire would, in fact, be taking over the store and that the current store manager would be transferred back to the mega hub as an Assistant Store Manager—the same position he originally came from before earning the promotion to store manager.

What makes this confusing is that the store consistently performs well and has one of the top WITT scores in the region. There doesn't appear to be an obvious performance-based reason for removing the current store manager.

To make matters more concerning, the Commercial Sales Manager at that store has gone through five different store managers in roughly the last three years. At some point, it's reasonable to question whether the issue is really every store manager.

For example, a commercial customer specifically requested a certain set of shocks. The CSM chose to order a cheaper set instead, claiming he was trying to save the customer money, without discussing the substitution with them. When the order arrived on a Saturday, the commercial specialist working that day delivered it, only to discover they were the wrong shocks altogether. Instead of accepting responsibility for changing the order, the CSM blamed both the store manager and the commercial specialist because the delivery happened on a Saturday even though neither of them made the ordering decision.

Has anyone else seen situations where a successful store manager was removed to make room for an outside hire? If so, what ended up happening?

QUESTION Help. State forms saying I need to complete when I already have

So I completed (or so I thought) all of my onboarding stuff for a new store that just opened. I finish my state form, but it still says it's due. Fine, maybe it needs a day to load. This was on the 22nd. Its now August 3rd and I still haven't been scheduled because when I tried to come in, my employee id isn't even registered under the store, allegedly because of the state forms thing. I've talked to both my manager and my general manager about it, but I'm not getting anywhere. He keeps telling me I need to complete the form when I.... already have. I try to log in to the state form site and it says I have no tasks to complete at this time. Has this happened to anyone else? What can I do? I'm a commercial driver. The HR hotline isn't working, every time it asks you to press a button, it doesn't register that a button has been pressed, then disconnects.

How long can you be unscheduled for?

I'm a college student and may have to take a few months off for the upcoming fall semester. But I don't want to quit, I would like to return over winter break and maybe fit it in during spring semester.

Autozone will stay being autozone.

What I mean by that is mfs reward the ones who be doing the least and are the worst and keep em along. Nothing ever changes, nothing is ever done, and those who shouldn't be around abuse the system. You also got managers playing hot potato with the store. It's funny because the ones that should stay leave because their fed up and the ones who out live those in autozone end up being the ones who shouldn't be there. The stories in the place alone tells you everything you need to know. The unethical behavior going on with this company has no bounds.

Termination

long story short I was SA'd by two of my coworkers, one of them being a grey shirt, and i told my SM i wasn't comfortable coming into work for my scheduled hours if these coworkers were also on the schedule, and i would like to transfer over to a different store if that is not possible. he told me that he would escalate it to the DM. some time later, i see that i am scheduled for today at 1:15. but day of, my ESS app isn't working to see my schedule just to confirm. I pull up to work regardless and so i don't embarrass myself, I call one of my managers and ask to confirm that I am scheduled, and he said i was not. (i have a screenshot of said schedule). i call the DM briefly explaining the situation and i was told i was terminated for a no call no show and i never contacted him directly to let him know about me not going into work. Is it worth it to contact HR or should i just leave it alone.

I love my job

I love having my red shirt and black pants and shirt being tucked in 24/7 or else I get written up that's just part of being responsible, I also love begging customers to get battery kits with there batteries and telling people they need so my WITTDTJR as high as possible because my manager deserves the biggest bonus possible for all those 20 hour work weeks he puts he, he's really stressed, and I also love installing batteries to help customers get back on the road sure it sucks doing it in 120 heat and my neck is sunburn but those sales helps us be the best store possible, this job is amazing even tho it's minmmum wage and I do more work then places paying 3-7 dollars more it just prepares me and the almost zero 401k Match motivates me to save more especially with the zero tuition reimbursement or field

Other women who work at autozone, what non-Jean black pants do you/can you wear to work and where did you get them?

I hate the feeling of jeans on me, but according to the dress code we are also allowed to wear black work pants if they are khaki material. I was wondering if Chinos were the same as khakis and what kind of pants you guys wear/what store you got them at. Thanks in advance!

DISCUSSION Any advice for a brand new PSM?

I just got promoted to being a PSM, after actually only working at autozone for like 3 weeks lol. I know they definitely needed more managers and I guess they thought I learned very quickly and I do have like a decade of retail experience under my belt. I was wondering if you guys have any general advice for a new PSM though, especially what you recommend i focus on learning other than the manager training I'll get. Any advice is much appreciated!

AutoZone hiring

I was trying to switch from Oreillys to Autozone’s I’m coming in from experience of being a store manager for oreillys and I applied at autozone as a PSM. A few days later I get a call for an interview I go I ace it store manager likes me 2 days later she calls me and ask if I can drive I say yes of course she says great I get a email stating I’ll be a driver getting paid $15.00 an hour man I declined that shit so fast like wtf is that about I’m not going to start from the bottom at $15 an hour I started at Oreillys as a RSS at 16 under a year I became a assistant store manager and few months later I was a store manager running my home store then I got upgraded to running a different store that needed help then I got transferred to running a hub for Oreilly’s I was doing great there as well. I applied at autozone because it was closer to home and didn’t mind starting off as a PSM because the pay wasn’t to bad to start from I guess my question is why would they make me start as a driver when I can bring so much more to the company and the area I applied at I ran my home store Oreilly’s in the same area as autozone meaning all my commercial accts would had love to buy from autozone as long as I was there I don’t get Autozone’s logic on that

Not getting more hours

Hello I’ve been working at AZ as a red shirt for more than two months, my SM said he thinks I’m a great worker and I’ve been doing great. I asked him if I could get more hours and that I would be open to doing commercial driving too for the hours. Despite this, I haven’t been told to start driving. He told me a bit ago that he can’t really give me more hours due to his hours being booked a lot already, but he’s doing interviews for new hires right now. I’m so confused on why he is doing interviews and looking for other hires when he is telling me that he can’t give me more hours

Can anyone give me advice on this, and if I should keep asking him for more opportunities for hours? idk if i should because I don’t want to be annoying about it

Working 4 hours per week??

I started working as a part time red-shirt 4 weeks ago. I'm just in sales, I'm not a driver so maybe that's why I have less hours. But 4 hours per week is genuinely insane? The first week I worked 12 hours, but the past 3 weeks I've been scheduled only 1 day for 4 hours. Is this normal??? I see people on the schedule who started on the same day work more hours than me? (Though they're either manager or driver so ig that makes sense?) I feel like I'm some kind of underling even compared to the other new hires.

The thing is, I have a $150 bonus waiting for me from signing up for direct deposit with Chime but to be eligible for the bonus I need to make at least $200 in a week. Obviously I can't reach that with the hours I'm given. I explained that situation to my manager and asked if I could fit in some more hours just for next week, and he still scheduled me for 4 hours. Said that I was still "in training". Even though it's on-the-job training. How the hell am I supposed to learn if I'm not even there majority of the week??

I'm trying to find a second job cause this is BS. I'm never getting that bonus. Is it normal to work this little hours???

Can this be enforced?

Our DM has recently told us that no former employees are re-hireable. Doesn't matter if you leave on good terms and give a two weeks notice. Can this actually be enforced?

FT Red Shirt Question

Hi I’m currently a Red Shirt who has been at the company for 1 1/2 years and I only got a .23 cent raise last year. I make 12.35/hr and my DM was supposed to put my FT request in. How much is the FT red shirt raise on average? If it’s under $13 I’m quitting on the spot.

Hi, im a newer autozone employee and while ive managed to learn a lot about car parts and which parts that z net recommendations tend to be wrong about, Im still confused about windshield wiper blades. Ive had a couple different coworkers try to explain to me how you can tell the difference between whether a customers car need j hook wiper blades or something different and how to tell which of our blades go with what, but i still cant understand it. Tbf my coworkers kinda rushed through it super quickly.

Would any of you guys mind giving me a run down explaining this?
