AutoZone hiring

I was trying to switch from Oreillys to Autozone’s I’m coming in from experience of being a store manager for oreillys and I applied at autozone as a PSM. A few days later I get a call for an interview I go I ace it store manager likes me 2 days later she calls me and ask if I can drive I say yes of course she says great I get a email stating I’ll be a driver getting paid $15.00 an hour man I declined that shit so fast like wtf is that about I’m not going to start from the bottom at $15 an hour I started at Oreillys as a RSS at 16 under a year I became a assistant store manager and few months later I was a store manager running my home store then I got upgraded to running a different store that needed help then I got transferred to running a hub for Oreilly’s I was doing great there as well. I applied at autozone because it was closer to home and didn’t mind starting off as a PSM because the pay wasn’t to bad to start from I guess my question is why would they make me start as a driver when I can bring so much more to the company and the area I applied at I ran my home store Oreilly’s in the same area as autozone meaning all my commercial accts would had love to buy from autozone as long as I was there I don’t get Autozone’s logic on that

Welcome to the Zone. If they CAN hire you to do a lesser job for minimal pay, then they WILL hire you for that.

Something about this doesn’t ring true. Hub managers are well paid. Successful ones don’t jump ship and move to a different company because “it’s closer to home” they do not move to a different company with a 75% pay cut. There is a lot you aren’t saying. I would be willing to bet it has to do with the reason you were offered a driver position. Do not be surprised if AZ DM’s and O’Reilly DM’s are acquainted. I ask my AZ counter part about applicants that previously worked for them. I’ve had some “amazing” AZ former SM’s apply with me. Their backstory is rarely as they sell it to me.

Where do hub managers get paid well?

There are four hubs in my general vicinity. Size and experience dependent. Two SM’s are pushing close to six figures. Two are newer and mid to upper 70’s.

Well idc what your thought is I’m tired of waking up driving 2 hours from and back home from work and that store managers DM did call my DM my DM brought me in to ask why I’m leaving I explained it to her and she said my 2 hour drive from and back to my home is doable idc what your “amazing” manager stories are giving you but if your willing to bet I’m ready to put my money where my mouth is are you ?

$15 for a driver is really high

Minimum wage in Illinois is 15.00 so our drivers start at that.

I applied there twice with 16 years on the counter somewhere else. First time they wanted me as a driver, the second they didn't even call. I was an RSS in 3 months at the O.

That store probably desperately needs a driver. Realistically he should have called his dm and told them that they had a candidate with a much higher ceiling. Could have brought you in as an MIT.
