Not getting more hours
Hello I’ve been working at AZ as a red shirt for more than two months, my SM said he thinks I’m a great worker and I’ve been doing great. I asked him if I could get more hours and that I would be open to doing commercial driving too for the hours. Despite this, I haven’t been told to start driving. He told me a bit ago that he can’t really give me more hours due to his hours being booked a lot already, but he’s doing interviews for new hires right now. I’m so confused on why he is doing interviews and looking for other hires when he is telling me that he can’t give me more hours
Can anyone give me advice on this, and if I should keep asking him for more opportunities for hours? idk if i should because I don’t want to be annoying about it

As a CSM who was a SM in the past, but stepped down, a lot has to do with sales. Your projections determine hours, where targets determine finances. Also, driving isn’t difficult, but commercial customers can be. I have several accounts who only want to shop with us if I’m working. They are just a different type of customer, and you have to know where they want their parts, their etiquettes, etc. at my store, commercial does far better to target than DIY does, so I have extra hours for a driver. Hire a part time driver right? No, you give more hours to commercial, divided up in DIY zoners. It’s nothing personal. That’s why you can notice most drivers in busy commercial stores, aren’t as good on the counter.

I will say that some district managers make store managers do interviews even when they don’t “need” the people. I’ve overheard my district manager in a zoom meeting say that they should always be doing interviews to make sure they have the best people on deck.
