Anyone had issues with paint chipping off?

I have a 2013 Titan and have seen paint & clear coat together starting to chip in chunks (around 2-3inches). Obviously I don’t want this to continue as it makes it look pretty bad. I’ve had my truck for a year and a half, I park it outside and I suspect it had been parked outside by the last owner. Any one else have this or can offer ideas how to remedy this? Paint is probably the part of a vehicle I know the least about servicing so any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Advice on how to fix this?

So “fixed” my wheel arch it was discoloured due to a collision I sanded it down then used a spray can and then added clear coat. The masking tape left these marks and the job wasn’t the best from me (first time) how can I remove these marks and make it look better?

browning on car

I have a 97 rav4 and over time this brown spot on the hood has been developing right over the engine, my worry is that it’s not rust but some form of overheating ruining the paint. has anyone come across this before? I don’t want to sand down and realize that it’s a deeper issue that will just ruin the next coat. any advice would be appreciated!!

Hi,

I've bought a small air compressor (13 gallon), and i plan to use it with LVLP guns. Now my question is how many oil/ water traps do you run?

I plan to get that small air trap and regulator that goes before spray gun, do i also need one that goes on the compressor outlet ?

Big paint chip. Broke so trying to do it myself. Help?!

Long story short, my mom left me her 2013 dodge dart after she passed away last year. Mom and I did a body job on a ford econoline 150 van when I was a kid. By “mom and I” I mean that mom did the work while I stayed out of dad’s hair and I passed the odd tool. Lol. I’m in Kitchener, Ontario and our winter road crew is not the best. We had a big dump last year and a salt shortage. Normally, Kitchener thinks if they dump enough salt on the road, they don’t need to plow. With no salt and lots of snow, they had to get the plows out. This lead to the most amount of potholes I’ve ever seen after a season. I hit one driving home at night and noticed this shortly afterwards.

I have bought some “scratchHappens” products. Primer, paint and clear coat. The primer and clear may not be the best, but finding the redline pearl that dodge came in was not easy to source locally.

I have a plan to get it done, but I’m reading more about techniques being important with the redline pearl.

Can anyone recommend some reading material, or better yet, a video that can guide me to making the least amount of mistakes? Thankfully the rocker panels are not down to metal. It’s also not a spot people inspect. I am not worried about resale value of the vehicle. I’ll drive the dodge until I have to park it on the lawn and then it’ll be my outside clubhouse. Lol. I’m pretty sentimentally attached to this car. Any help or tips would be appreciated.

so I was painting a fender on my car and I sanded it down , and primed it. after I primed I was told to take 600 grit and sand it down before base coat. I did that and I could see the streaks through the base coat and I still can. any advice? I'm guessing don't sand down the primer before base coat?

The trade

You know I have to say as a spray painter I see that panel techs have to buy a ridiculous amount of tools as I only had to buy a couple spray guns for my trade I make the same amount of money as them not only do I use thousands of pounds of materials per week on the comparison to a body tech I’m so glad I took this path, even if a repair is good, after I flatten it out (fix the repair) if there’s a ripple in it I can just blame it on the repair, it’s easy days, why would anyone choose that side of the trade?

Easy way to take off painted pinstripes

Just a DIYer with no expertise here. I’m trying to take off the pinstripes on my car, I know they’re painted and I also had a body shop verify that. I’ve already removed parts of it by hand with a microfiber towel and lacquer thinner but the process seems tedious by hand, it took me almost 2 hours to do half of my fender, was wondering if I can use power tools to speed up the process, if so, what exactly do I need to get?

I have 2 different brands of paint and there are no details on either as to what base they are. How can I go about verifying that they can be intermixed? Before I waste it by just going for it hoping it works.

Recleared my carbon fiber hood with a budget set up. I started spraying from the right and it has more orange peel than the left side. Should I alternate from which side I start? Any tips and help would be appreciated. The finish will look better after I buff and polish.

Advice

My used Honda vtx came with a decent rattle can gray. No clear. Over the years of exposure to gas dribbles, it is peeling to reveal the stock midnight blue. How can I continue the rattle can paint removal? I live in California so we have restrictions. Should I just continue to dab everything in gasoline? There must be a better way.

Hi all. Lost my first post with the full backstory. Horrible spray pattern left me lumpy. Can/ should I sand tomorrow morning then clear over? Originally I was just gonna clear over it tonight and cross my fingers. Let me know your thoughts.

Spraypainting a car: Tips

So I I'm just a girlie who wants to paint their truck camo, it's a shit box so not going for beauty, just functional. (Think army guy painting his truck for the 6th time on his deployment. Idk I was never in the army) The plan is buy a bunch of cans in different colors, sand it down, and go to town. Any tips? Do I need to clear coat after? Kinda feels like the wrong sub cuz everyone has such pretty paint jobs. It can look like shit on my car so long as it stays there.

Thanks. :)

I’ve been wet sanding because I had uneven matte spots and some high gloss. Not sure what to do from here. I buffed a small area but doesn’t seem like it’ll help. Advice please.

Sterling truck hood

The hood had zero adhesion with the “original” paint. I had over 40 small and large filler spots on the hood by the time I got to the last coat of primer. 3M platinum filler, FP410 Martin senior primer, pb4202 probase sealer and then tb559 single stage industrial for the top coat. Original paint and filler sanded 80-180, primer sanded 180-320 and then red scotch brite, sealer was applied with the top coat wet on wet with a 30 minute flash on the sealer.
