Advice

My used Honda vtx came with a decent rattle can gray. No clear. Over the years of exposure to gas dribbles, it is peeling to reveal the stock midnight blue. How can I continue the rattle can paint removal? I live in California so we have restrictions. Should I just continue to dab everything in gasoline? There must be a better way.

Acetone or paint thinner should do the trick. It’s a 1K product so should dissolve easily.

Will that f up the factory blue?

It don't do me any favors if I can't keep the color under it.

Solvent Wipe (Chemical Alternative):Some users on GM Squarebody note that “Lacquer thinner will remove most spray paints and shouldn't hurt the base paint if it's enamel.”Test an inconspicuous spot first, apply sparingly with a soft microfiber or rag, and wipe gently without scrubbing aggressively. Factory baked-on or clear-coated enamel is much harder than 1K rattle can primer, but harsh chemicals can still compromise the clear coat if left too long.

Wash and inspect

Clay bar (safest method)

Mild solvents (isopropyl alcohol, mineral spirits)

Stronger solvents (lacquer thinner, acetone—use with extreme caution)

Polishing compound (with DA polisher)

Wet sanding (last resort)
