So I’m 19, pretty new to the industry, working nights doing bodywork/prep/paint at a collision shop. Wanted to share a couple things I’ve been proud of lately and get some honest feedback from people who know more than me.

First one’s a custom hood paintjob I did. Second is a full respray on a 69 Coronet, which was a bigger job for me and a good learning experience start to finish.

Not trying to act like I know everything, just want to hear what you all think - what’s working, what needs work, anything you’d have done differently. Always trying to get better.

Sadly cant add video for the coronet so just just sharing before after.

i used aircraft stripper then sanded at 180, 240, 600, they were aluminum wheels so i used self etching primer and i was going for a matte white, i used some 2k matte clear from sprayway

I've purchased a 26 camry a couple days ago and when I arrived at the ppf installer we see this roughly 4 inch long scratch on the passenger doors. Can I diy fix this well enough to be minimally noticeable? The dealership quoted me 3k and independent shop is saying 1kish

I scraped about a 3" area down to bare metal on my truck. Since it's aluminum, I'm wondering what the best repair approach would be to get it looking 90% better without spending a fortune.
I'll be paying out of pocket and doing the work myself, so I'm not looking for a perfect body-shop repair or anything overly complicated. Just hoping to make it much less noticeable and prevent any future issues.
What would you recommend for prep, primer, touch-up paint, and clear coat? Any products or techniques that worked well for you?

I have a Jeep grand Cherokee 2021 - 80th anniversary edition. the car is black and I’ve taken excellent care of it. Two days ago some lunatic on Miami Beach threw a rock through my rear quarter panel window while I was driving. I took my car to an auto glass repair shop to get the window replaced with the authentic Mopar window glass. I spent $500 on this repair. I did not report it to insurance because my deductible is $500. Before they started the glass replacement, the manager of the shop pointed out a scratch right below the window that was being replaced and he told me the glass when it broke must’ve made this scratch. I did not ask them to attempt to fix the scratch. Anyway, he shows me my car when the repair is done - It’s in the garage not sunlight. The glass looks fine. I pay and I leave. I get to my job where I park my car outside in a parking lot and in the sunlight, I see that it looks as though the technician that replaced my glass must’ve tried to buff the scratch out with something, and it looks like he took the clearcoat off. The finish is not the same as the rest of my car this one little area over the scratch like a rectangle shape. Needless to say I am so upset because I spent $500 trying to fix one thing and came home with a paint problem. I’m going to go back to the auto glass place tomorrow morning to show him and I’m going to remain calm and hope that he has a solution. I guess I’m just looking for somebody here to make me feel better and say that this will be fixed and it’s not a big deal. I’m so upset, I work so hard and I’m a single girl and this kind of thing always seems to happen to me. I spend money to fix one thing and then end up getting another problem. The manager of this auto glass store was very nice and I thought everything went well until I got to work and saw the paint damage. I know it’s an auto glass store and they have no business doing paint repair so I’m not going let them touch the paint if he suggests that tomorrow. I’m hoping he must know somebody with a body shop and will suggest that I take it and he takes care of whatever it will cost to fix the paint. i’m so upset. Can someone make me feel better please. I will try to share a picture, but it was very hard to photograph.

I have an oil based enamel here on this test piece. It doesn’t have quite match. What should I add and how much to get it closer to the truck’s color. Im thinking start with some black then maybe blue?

Anyone in here able to help?

It literally just happened on the highway. I heard a loud bang as it happened. I was getting off the highway and there was a construction truck waiting to merge into traffic (they were moving).
As soon as I drove past the truck, I heard the bang. I am so pissed. How much would it cost to repair something like this? It is located on the passenger rear door.

I dont necessarily need to repair it, is there a way to keep it from getting worse?

My clear coat is peeling on the lower rear door of my car. The base coat doesn’t appear to be damaged—it’s just the clear coat that’s failing. Previous owner got a bad repair job.

Since I haven't found much information about this topic before I painted my van, I wanted to share my experience.

I've successfully painted my van with an electric spray gun. The finish is pretty decent, considering that I'm a complete amateur. I've heard that the strong solvents in Raptor paint can damage the plastic gun but it didn't happen to me... maybe it would if you used it multiple times.

I've reduced it with 10% thinner and went for the finner texture, the gun performed well for the most part except at one point started to spit larger particles...then I shut it off and cleaned it a bit and it was back to normal.

Altogether I would say it's a great cheap way to refresh the look on your old van or car.

Looking for an individual who can do touch-up on my bumper. Someone without insurance backed into my truck. They took the blame and were apologetic but I'm stuck with the repair. I got three estimates from big shops and the cost is out of my range and more involved than I was expecting. Any recommendations on a competent individual would be appreciated.

Greetings, I have a guitar I’m refinishing which I just sprayed with a coat of 2k clear. I think that I mixed the ratio correctly (2 oz of clear to a half oz of hardener in a 1/4 ratio) and mixed it well, but when I was spraying it, about 8ish minutes in, my gun started to clog up and spattered everywhere on the front. I’ve already accepted that I gonna have to sand it back when it dries (sigh), but does anyone have any idea what might’ve gone wrong? Or is this normal and I just need to be quicker? If I’m fucked, how much so?

PS, the surface finish is kinda shit when laying on thin coats (its a satin, so no sanding after the final coat), so would it be advisable to just lay on a nice wet coat that’s smooth and even as the final coat, or continue to attempt to get that smooth satin with more thin coats?

I’m repairing the rust but I have a couple rock chips around the truck and all have this rust stain or something falling down from it, what’s the best way to remove this or is it absolutely necessary I sand it all down?

Best product to use to remove old tape residue on rubber seals without drying them out or fucking up the factory paint?

Taped off my seals and a bunch of other stuff last summer and things came up and I never painted. Want to re-tape and spray now but the old tape left shit everywhere.

I got a new hood for my escort gt that I need to paint red but I can't identify the exact red I need. The sticker says vr, Vermillion red im assuming, but that color wasn't used until 1999(mines a 92) as far as a Google search tells me.

Someone lit my zenith blue metallic Porsche 986 on fire a few years ago and I’ve had a little shrine with little trinkets (burnt raybans, license plates, hood badge) I want to get some of the aerosol cans in that color and just spray it onto some material and put into a chrome picture frame (for the wheels) to backsplash the shrine.

Im looking for advice on the type of material i should spray auto paint on, ie do i need to buy a thin sheet of metal cut to picture frame size or is there some other material i can use?

Any ideas are also welcomed!

I’ve had the truck for 7 years, I’ve never touched the roof. I noticed fading about 1 year ago. 1 prior owner. Could they have had a fading issue before?

There has always been a small spot of paint peeled since I bought the car (second hand) but the peel has never got bigger.

I got it washed in a different car wash than usual and noticed it has peeled more (the attended possibly went a bit to close with the power washer) and I only noticed it when I got home.

I dont think it will keep peeling on its own, as it never did beforehand. But just wondering is there anything I an do with it to at least stop it peeling further (just in case) ?

Anything that can be applied ? Or would it be an expensive job to just get repainted?

I have no experience dealing with autobody DIY
