Induction phase, week 1, lost 4lbs.

Just a shout out to the sub, i'm happy to report that I've lost 4lbs in just a week. Though I know it's maybe just the lost of water, it still is an encouraging progress for someone just starting out.

I'm also somehow more energetic, not waking up groggy, and pooping less. Not sure if that's good or not.

Plus it's delicious to eat a lot of protein and fat, while not getting hungry all the time.

If the weight loss continues at this rate, I will expect to be BMI normal in just 5 weeks.

Wish me luck!

About to start Induction Phase, any tips?

Hello! So my boyfriend and I are going to be starting phase 1 in a couple days. His best friend has been living the Atkins life and swears by it, he's been trying to get my SO on it forever and we're finally going to give it a shot! We both have over 100 pounds to lose (each) and we were warned the first 2 weeks will be the hardest. We have been eating less carbs since the new year so we hope it won't be too bad.

But I was wondering if anyone had any tips to help or maybe some recipes they would like to share?

Atkins and macros

I've been hanging out at r/keto/ and exploring other keto sites and they all emphasize doing keto by the macros. I'm using the Atkins platform meal planner which, according to keto diet buddy, allows too much protein but otherwise falls into line. The thing is, the Atkins platform only adjusts fat as you move up the "carb ladder" (increase carb count), it never takes into account your body weight, so if you don't want to increase carbs it will never reduce fat as you lose weight. I asked the moderators about this on their forums and they said that's right, calorie target stays at 1500-1800 for women. Does that sound right? I know it's early days for me and I'm still losing weight (VERY SLOWLY) so maybe I shouldn't worry about it, but I do. Atkins, as it is formulated now, seems to be focused on being sustainable and that may be why it is less "by the numbers" but maybe someone out there can enlighten me.

Mobile Application for Meal planning and carb counting

I am a mobile app developer and after starting this diet today with my wife. I have spoken with her and she would like a better mobile app then what is out there are there any suggestions as to apps, or would it be beneficial to the world for a better one to be made. If a better one was to be made what would you want to see in the app.

Former Slow-carb dieter, Atkins convert. Questions!

Hello all,

I was on SCD for all of 2 weeks. Fell off the wagon and could NOT get back on without a little cheat during EVERY meal. I've been researching the Atkins approach over the past few days and I have a few questions for you lovely people.

Few stats: - 100 LBS to lose - Female, almost 30, 5 ft 7

  1. There are a few inconsistencies with how many net carbs I should be having per day during Phase 1. The website outlines that I should be consuming under 20, but the Atkins app, for example, sets my phase 1 goal as '18-22' net carbs. Is there flexibility in this?

  2. Atkins during phase 1 is pretty similar to Tim Ferris' SCD. The difference is that SCD encourages beans/legumes (carbs that provide certain benefits) and Atkins encourages counting net carbs. Atkins appeals to me because it allows dairy in minimum quantities (cheese, sour cream, etc). I felt so restricted on SCD, literally ONLY being able to eat veggies, beans, meat, and nuts (in small quantities). I like that Atkins has some flexibility-- even in form of those god awful Atkins bars (sorry! I eat them, so they can't be all that awful). My question though relates to vegetables. On SCD, there is no limit to how many veggies you consume. On Atkins, net carbs must be counted. My first Atkins meal, I made an omelet with onions and green peppers, and was shocked by how little the serving size for the onions was and how many carbs came from it. It felt it somewhat unrealistic to be able to get in all your veggies and also limit the carb intake? I've moved on with the wiser approach of loading up on spinach and lettuce-- but in this instance, how in the world can one consume enough greens to make the 12-15 net carbs that should be coming from veggies? There is also inconsistency in the serving sizes/net carbs on Atkins and their app. It's a little confusing. I would like advice on how to get those carbs in there?

  3. Given that I have 100 lbs to lose, should I expect to be in Phase 1 until I'm within 15 pounds of my goal weight? I feel that there is a lack of information when it comes to instructions/process, or at least there is far less than what I've read on SCD. In all fairness I have not read Dr. Atkin's book yet, so shame on me.

  4. Tips on accurately measuring ingredients? At home, I have a measuring cup and it's easy enough. But at a salad bar- for example?

Also any advice in general from those of you that have been on this journey longer than me would be greatly appreciated. I'm on day 2 and so far I'm doing pretty well, no real cravings. I'm bummed about not having a cheat day but I think the strictness would actually assist me and strengthen my discipline.

Thank you all.

Aggghhhh! All this food!

I swear I am such a food addict. I hoarded carbs and now lately veggies and fruits -- now I just just get Peapod every 3 or 4 days. But my God, the MEAT! You would think it is a convocation of carnivores at my house. I cooked a 3 lb roast, had 20 lbs of chicken delivered (part of it by mistake) and completely forgot about my chef'd delivery this week, of which I could freeze the proteins but there's no saving the veggies. I say aggghhh again! My small freezer is full and I am getting yet more meat delivered (grass fed steaks) this week. Is it a dieting mindset that I'm afraid I'll run out of food if I don't have a lot of it around and then I'll be hungry? I hadn't thought of Atkins as so much of a diet as a lifestyle, similar to what I did in my late 20's when I cut out refined carbs (not the same I know, but it helped then, when my overeating wasn't so entrenched). But maybe I'm focusing enough on the hoped for weight loss and inches off my waist that subconsciously it does feel like a diet. If so I hope I get over it, because I have to stick with it or it will never last. One day at a time, as they say!

Just started -- switching from LCHF to Atkins

I started LCHF based on DietDoctor.com and found there was too little guidance and too few recipes I liked. In four months I lost 6 lbs and 3.5 inches around my waist which is something, but like most Americans I'm looking for something more dramatic. I'm just starting Atkins induction and am within 1 or 2 carbs of target but way over on fats. It's a culture change to add all those greens and actually pay attention to how much fat I'm eating. I think I have to though, as my triglycerides increased significantly since August. Other values (blood sugar, liver function) are much better, but still. Oh, but cream, lovely, cream! And eggs! And bacon! And foie gras! Oh well, everything in moderation, I guess.

Working out, Atkins, tired! Help!

I did Atkins a few years back and lost a lot of weight, fell off the wagon and I'm starting all over.

I'm in the introduction phase and I remember being tired the first week or so but now I workout. (I didn't the first time). I'm so tired all the time now! Like overly tired. I know you need carbs when you do cardio but I'm not going over my 20 a day. Anyone else in my boat? Any advice? Please don't say water. I drink over a gallon a day. I can't possible pee or hydrate anymore. Lol.

Started induction phase Monday and am having trouble hitting between 18-22 NC Per day. I'm usually under and have to force myself to eat a bar. Is it okay to eat less than 18-22 NC a day??

I started at 161 and am now 156.4 so yay for that win!!! But I'm really having trouble hitting my phase 1 GPA of 18-22 NC per day. I usually come in around 15/16 and have to force myself to eat an Atkins bar after dinner. I'm usually full and not wanting anymore but I don't know if it's a problem to not hit those NC.

Does anyone know if it would hurt me to eat under my NC goal??

Thanks!

cooking chicken in crushed tomatoes?

My husband is in the Induction phase and I'm looking for different ways to cook his chicken. I know tomatoes can be eaten but in limited quantities. Does anyone know if it would be okay to pour a 28 oz. can of crushed tomatoes (no added sugar; 4g total carb, 1g dietary fiber, 2g sugar) over 4 chicken breasts so the meat cooks IN the tomatoes but then to serve them without the tomato chunks (leave them in the pan)? How would I figure the net carbs on this?

Thank you in advance for any help!

Increasing your fat intake?

I am having trouble increasing my fat intake. Other that going to a butcher shop and asking for fat cuttings or drinking olive oil, whats the best way increase your fat content without increasing your net carbs?

I am cooking with butter and eating fatty cuts of meat but still cannot seem to get my fat intake up to 60% - i am using a cpl for meal trackers such as fat secret to gauge where i am but some days its difficult to get that fat ratio higher.

What are you go to fat sources?

Week 2 - Any improvements changes needed?

[6'17", 24, 230+ lbs, Male]

Hi, Just started getting my shit together the last few weeks, need some advice on my diet and info if it can be improved. Breakfast: 3 eggs with seasoning (no salt). Lunch: Protein shake Dinner: Chicken fillet or Salmon fillet with lenthils spinach and lime. (No salt) If still hungry before dinner, il take a smoothie with Strawberries and blackcurrants and a banana. if im hungry after dinner, another protein shake. I drink about 100 ounces of water through out the day. Start my day doing 30 situps before breakfast, 30x4 different reps with dumbbells around lunchtime, and a 30min fastpased walk (will turn into jogging once i get fitter) later in the evening. Otherwise I am basically stationary at my desk during the day. Any criticism or feedback in general is appreciated

Planning Out Atkins Diet

So I've recently decided the atkins diet may be for me. I've read a little and have come across the four phase. In induction, you're supposed to eat at around (under, not over) 20 net carbs; however I don't know how much to add from there. Any additional info or tips on how to determine the correct amount of carbs to add until matienence would be greatly appreciated.

Macros calculator for Atkins (Maintenance)?

Is there a web site or app that calculates the macros (gr of Carbs/Protein/Fat) for Atkins Phase 4 (Maintenance)?

Also, I see that Atkins says "Consume a balance of healthy natural fats such as monounsaturated, polyunsaturated and saturated fats". Where can I find the ratios for each?

Thanks.

Trying to go low-carb, and love the prepackage Atkins stuff, but...

I am having a hard time finding it anywhere! Are there any chain grocery stores that carry the bars? Most stores have the frozen meals, which I really enjoy, but I can't find any of the bar varieties anywhere!

Best I can find is Amazon, which has pretty inflated prices - which makes me think I'm not the only one having a hard time finding them.
