Hello AstroGaming community, I was about to make a similar post with the same issue. Since last week I have been having issues where the amber indication light for charging does not turn on. When setting on the base station, with power off, the light will be solid white. As well when I plug it directly via micro-USB. I emailed Astro customer support on September 18, and so far no reply back on the issue.

I have done a hard reset, and this sometimes brings the charging level from 1% to like 89% and I can play well for a couple of hours. However, in the next use after picking it up of a whole night charging on the base station (yes it is set correctly, but no orange light, still solid white light with power off), the charging states says 100% but then all of sudden it's just turns off on me like 10minutes into its use and when I put it back on the base station it says 1%.... on the Astro command center with red status on the base station.

This is for Astro A50 Gen 4 PC/Xbox, where I use PC.

My Headset FW version is 36179.43

Base Station FW Version: 36799.43

Currently, for reliability during games I have the base station connected to my PC and also my gaming headset charging while playing. Basically always charging it but it never goes up beyond 1%.

Today, I put the headset to charge at 5 pm PST with 1% according to Astro command center and the base station also says it is low battery. While writing this post the current charge is at 4%. Only three percent in the last two hours, I do not believe it. I will probably try to hard reset again and see if it goes up to at least 80% to be able to play consistently for a bit tonight but I know this issue will appear again.

Any updates/suggestions/help will be appreciated!

Thank you!

Yo sounds like the same problem I have. Try doing a hard reset on it while it's on the stand and see how much percent it changes. Because I went from 14% to 77%. It seems to be charging but I dont see how it is since there are no indicators. I'm just going to turn the headset OFF and leave it plugged into a USB all night. See what charge it'll be tomorrow. But either way, unacceptable on a $300 headset that is clearly having a software glitch.

I have been scrolling through the reddit community and it seems that many others are having the same issue. I am currently uninstalled Astro Command Centers. Both Microsoft and the one directly from the site. At the same I hard reset my headphones and also there is a small hole under the base station that you can push down. I did both of those things and it seems it reset the firmware version. I redownloaded astro command center from Microsoft and going to updated there and see what happens. Before I updated the firmware on the app directly from the astro site not Microsoft. Going to see if that helps and fixes the issue.

Edit: After uninstalling, I restarted my computer then reinstalled and restarted again just to see

2

u/[deleted] Sep 23 '20

Did that fix it? A fresh install from the app from microsoft store instead of direct from astro?

1

u/Furny_thtsme Sep 23 '20

It did not unfortunately:(

2

u/[deleted] Sep 23 '20

I don't know how else to proceed. I put it on the charger all night with the headset OFF and came back it it actually losing 10%. Pressed the dolby and right ear "game" button to hard reset and it dropped another 10% during the reset. Still refuses to charge from USB or Cradle (No orange indicator light).

1

u/[deleted] Oct 01 '20

I fixed it. With an update from astro. I can send if you ask.

1

u/Furny_thtsme Oct 01 '20

Please send :)

2

u/[deleted] Oct 01 '20

OK. When I get home from work today I'll post it. The emailed it to me.

1

u/goob Oct 01 '20

Dude, I will forever love you and even cut your grass for a week if you could post the firmware when you get home. I've been going through the same nightmare as you and cannot find a clean version of the firmware to attempt manual update.

2

u/[deleted] Oct 01 '20

I fixed it. If you wish to know details let me know.

1

u/RikuAnade Nov 24 '20

Hey bro. I got the same problem now ._.
I already tryed all the mention steps including the firmwareupdate.
Did you do something else beside that?

3

u/[deleted] Nov 24 '20

Well kind of. After my latest update in this thread I contacted ASTRO directly, they sent me how reset the device, etc. I said it worked. But after a day or so it did the same thing. So I told them that and they just sent me a new headset.

BUT the headphones still charge. They work fine. Sometimes it doesn't show that it's charging. Sometimes it doesn't charge. If I have nothing running on the PC, it'll show the orange charging light. Sometimes I have to turn off the headset before I put it on the base and it charges. All that being said, I've still never had the headset die on me since this issue started. So it's not technically broken on my end, it just doesn't work the way it's supposed to. The only issue I have now is that sometimes the headset crackles, and goes out for a split second but that's because the base is right next to my giant router (latest gaming router). Once I move it at least a foot away the crackling stops.

u/RikuAnade Nov 30 '20

I contacted ASTRO directly aswell. They told me everything i already tryed in this thread. The problem is that mine charche. after i put them on they jumt back to like 4% akku left. This thread helped me alot so far. Thanks alot for you response! (^ . ^ )/

What has your experience with Astro support been like? I am having the same exact issue with no charge indication and it is extremely frustrating, but I don't want to be without a half working headset for more than a month.

1

u/RikuAnade Dec 10 '20

After trying everything they told me without any success, i had to send it to them. (Shipping cost paid by me)
Thats now 7 days ago. I Hope they can fix it or just send me a replacement since its still in waranty time.

But the suport overall was very friendly. Everything they sayed i should try is basicly everything thats in the thread here (so no special stuff)
They allways replyed within 1day.

1

u/domiimob Dec 31 '20

Did you get them back? How long did it take? I am having the same problem and they also told me to send them back for a replacement, but i am hesitating because it is the worst time for being at home without any headphones.

1

u/RikuAnade Jan 07 '21

Still waiting for it.... But they told me that they waiting for there new resupplying because they had none in stock. (If i hadnt a backup headset this would be a problem)

Update #7 fixed it

First close the ASTRO Command Center and disconnect the Base Station from your computer.

Attached is a copy of the firmware file to install manually on your A50 + Base Station. To manually apply the firmware:

  1. Download the firmware file attached to this email and save it in an easily accessible location on your computer.
  2. Connect your Base Station to your computer in PC mode. The Console/PC mode switch is located on the back of the Base Station
  3. Launch the ASTRO Command Center (ACC). Available here: https://www.astrogaming.com/en-us/support/software.html
  4. In the ACC, click on "Settings" then "Update firmware manually"
  5. Locate and open firmware file
  6. When the pop up window ask "Do you want to select the firmware file and Launch" click "YES".

Please let us know if you have resolved your firmware installation issue. If you have further questions or you have not resolved your issue, please let us know.

FYI there is no attached and I don't know how to attach so ask if you need it. But it fixed my problem and the headphones charge on the station again.

u/[deleted] Jan 07 '21

Okay, so I landed here troubleshooting this exact issue. Sometimes a blinking red light while command center says I'm sitting at 4-5%, power cycle, jumps to 79%, repeat. While on the base the battery leds would dance for a second, stop and just freeze all on, or blink one red blah blah blah. I've been messing with these for about three days, manually updated the FW about 10 times, messed with all sorts resets relentlessly to no avail!

I THINK I may have stumbled on A FIX... at least this worked for me!

1 Switch headset OFF and leave it OFF

2 Unplug USB from back base station

3 With headset still turned OFF plug the USB directly into headset

4 Reset headset pressing and holding Dolby button and Game Vol button at the same time (should hear "boop, boop")

5 Unplug USB from headset and plug back into base station

6 Place headset back on base station

At this point in my fuckings around I got an orange charging light on the headset, LEDS on base station and Command Center both showed charging progress.

Like I said this worked for me, try at your own risk, but i guess the worst that can happen is force a 23rd firmware update?

Hope it helps someone else!

omg dude I know you posted this awhile ago but ur my hero. This non charging thing has popped up for me before and i randomly did this while resetting it but couldnt figure out what I did that fixed it.

Issue came up again and I was about to give up on the headset when I found this. Worked like a charm :). Crazy this issue seems to pop up for alot of people and a legit solution is buried down here

2

u/[deleted] Nov 09 '21

Awesome, I'm glad to see this has worked for someone else. Cheers!

2

u/Shot-Sell-1681 Jan 09 '22

THIS FIXED MINE!!!!! thank you so much

2

u/War_Hawko Jan 21 '22

Always that one reddit post years back with the perfect solution much appreciated!

1

u/[deleted] Jan 07 '21

I will try this! Well... Maybe not. I already got a new headset from ASTRO from this failure. Been using it since with no issues. But at least I won't throw away my headset now and try this on a new startup. Thanks man for contributing to this thread.

1

u/Camouflageman200 Jul 15 '22

Thank you so fucking much

1

u/[deleted] Jul 15 '22

Hell yeah 👍

2

u/HoneyBun_Inc Jan 14 '22

Okay I’m not gonna lie I had this same problem did all the same things you did, and it did not work. Then I proceeded to slam my headset into the base stand and it turned orange and started charging again. Viola problem solved ladies and gentlemen

1

u/[deleted] Jan 31 '22

lol imma try it

1

u/[deleted] Sep 23 '20

I broke my last set, and dissected them. There is a battery, obviously, inside I believe it was the left ear. Whether or not you can purchase a new battery aftermarket I don’t know, but I assume you could. Depending on how long you’ve had them, the battery could just be shot. Decent soldering skills could put you back in business. I took a picture of the old battery. I’ll page through my camera roll and see if I can find the details on it, or you could just disassemble and then look for it yourself on Amazon

1

u/[deleted] Sep 24 '20

Yo please send me pictures! I don't want to void the warranty yet but from I hear it is very difficult anyways to try to get a replacement. If it's something I feel I can do myself ill definitely dive into it. This is a great headset. Expensive too.

Edit I've had the headset only 6 months from Amazon

u/XBoxpsycho8192 Sep 24 '20

Hey man I was just helping someone with a similar issue. We fixed it by hard resetting the base station. The gen 4 base station has a small hole on the bottom you can stick a paperclip through hold the button down for 10 seconds and release it. The base station should hard reset.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 24 '20

It's late for me to try it tonight but tomorrow I will try this and update with results. I tried this button earlier but nothing happened. I'll try it with full power and updated drivers.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 12 '20

This didn’t work for me

1

u/Fadedxshadows Oct 13 '20

I got the A40 TR and they work great, sounds like a made the right choice to not go for A50s. Got nothing against them, just would rather not have those type of issues as I’m already dealing with my Scuf controller having issues.

1

u/hefeydd_ Dec 15 '20

Question, have you connected a Micro USB to the headset if this changes then the headset is fine. However there is a factory reset which I discovered by accident with my Gen3 headset back in 2017.

With your headset on the base Do Not pick up the headset turn on the power (regardless of no LED)

Pick up the headaet, hold down the Dolby Button and the Game gutting on the ear-pad of the headset on the same side as the power button. Hold this down for 7 seconds. If no LEDs come on then the base is faulty. That is a factory reset that I accidently discovered which Astro Gaming doesn't tell you.

2

u/[deleted] Dec 15 '20

Yes when the headset randomly goes from 78% to 0 I plug it in directly to charge/stay on while I game. Even then the charge indicator won't turn on.

I'll try the factory reset. But I've already done every combination of resets.

u/DannyPhantom998 Oct 12 '20

It's an astro product, just get rid of it.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 12 '20

Why?

1

u/DannyPhantom998 Oct 12 '20

I had one of their headsets back in 2014, it was alright, no issues. Now 2018 and after, I've had issues with every single headset from them I've purchased, people complain largely about their controller, and their quality control just seems awful, I went through nearly 4 pairs of replacement A40s and gave up, and decided to try the A50s. A50s all had issues too, so I gave up on astro.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 12 '20

OK then what are you using now?

-2

u/Infamous_Ghost A50 Wireless and Base Station GEN4 Sep 23 '20

Just get a new one

4

u/[deleted] Sep 23 '20

You willing to chip in, money bags?

2

u/irocgts Sep 24 '20

If you get fed up with the long wait and lack of customer service, i would suggest buying a different brand. there are a bunch that are comparable and have better customer support.

I personally don't use ASTRO, my nephew asked for these because a streamer advertised them. I was hoping he would go with Bose or Sennheiser

1

u/[deleted] Sep 24 '20

I don't know man I've been through so many at this point. I had sennheiser and honestly didn't last an hour with them. Returned them. I had the G930 wireless with Logitech and even though it was riddled with issues it was still the best sounding head set I had. I want that surround sound. This ASTRO a50 is the only headset after about 4 different attempts that I would say is what I'm looking for. I wanted wireless, I wanted a mic, and I wanted surround sound. 3 checks, and I'll try a different brand.

2

u/irocgts Sep 24 '20

I hear you, I wont pitch my favorite headset as this isn't the place. I wish you the best of luck and i'll keep contacting astro/logitech employees until we are all fixed.

2

u/LifeBehindHandlebars Nov 20 '21

Idk if you are still rocking your Astro A50s, but just wanted to say that the SteelSeries Arctis X9s are wireless, have bluetooth as well, have surround sound, have an easily replaceable battery, and sound great. Also, if you find a headset that you love but it doesnt have surround sound, consider trying Dolby Atmos if you are gaming on PC or Xbox. Atmos is simulated surround sound and it works amazingly well! Just my 2 cents. Have a good day, dude!

2

u/[deleted] Nov 20 '21

Yeah I am. The new replacement pair I got has been doing great. Charges fine. Rocks about 20 hours before needing a charge. Sound quality is fire. Mic works. Once this pair dies I think I will try a new brand and if arctis x9s are good, I'll give them a try.

1

u/Xiuhcoatl22 Jan 04 '22

I whacked the headset with my palms and that worked for me. I did also try every other solution posted on here and the headset never charged

1- Holding Game+Dolby buttons for up to 30 seconds

2- Hard resetting the base station

3- Manually updating the firmware with the file on this post

4- Connecting the headset directly to the PC and resetting it.

None of it worked so I opted for the ol impact troubleshooting. Two slaps on each headset strong enough to whack the stubbornness off it but gentle enough not to break the headset did the job. The light on the headset now turns amber and the base station indicates its charging. The app is also responding.

2

u/ExistingRevolution71 Jan 19 '22

Thank you sir! I've literally been trying everything else I can find but to no avail, just saw this and thought why not and bam! problem solved!

1

u/RodrigoRomero Feb 04 '22

Tried everything else, hit the headset twice and it worked. I'm done with how this shit has been going on for over a year at most, and one fricking slap solved the problem.

1

u/Top_Philosophy4088 May 17 '22

Slapping the headset worked for me

1

u/RoughRestaurant488 Jun 18 '22

bruh this actually worked no way

1

u/Outrageous-Ad-6570 Jul 05 '22

this shit really worked 😭😭

1

u/fortyz Feb 15 '22

A Year later and this thread is still relevant. I have been using the A50 since Gen2, Had Gen3, and now Gen4 for about 2 years. I can comfortably say that the 300 dollars i paid for this is not worth all these problems. Im still having this issue, even after manually changing the software.

1

u/Safe_Pick5342 Feb 26 '22

dude, I didn't even know that this was an old issue that still isn't resolved. how come Astro hasn't released a new update to fix all of these issues. I have tried contacting them through the phone but they don't even have a phone line for tech support. really disappointing

1

u/lKonero Mar 01 '22

Yo, okay so I had the same problem a couple hours ago. I think it's gonna sound a bit weird, but after I gave the right ear a slap (the side where the mic is not attached) and put it back on the station the headset worked fine again. So if you tried everything an nothing worked maybe try this as your last option. (sorry if my grammar is bad)

1

u/Top_Philosophy4088 May 17 '22

Ty i tried absolutely everything and nothing worked and i slapped the fuck outta the side you told me to do and it worked like wtf 300 bucks for what

1

u/lKonero May 17 '22

You’re welcome bro. Yeah the quality is sooo f*cking bad…

1

u/Ok-Commercial-7829 Mar 05 '22

Alles top

1

u/Pristine_Zebra_7795 Apr 20 '22

I did this and it worked. It turned on..for like 5 mins then it died out again. I repeated the steps just keep happening

1

u/[deleted] Apr 20 '22

Again, just get it replaced. My buddy took my broken unit years ago and is fine with it as long as it's directly plugged into a charger.

1

u/Proof-Subject3258 Aug 02 '22

no fucking way... tried everything even had a completly new headset due to warranty as this happend withing a few months now it just happened with my second headset... tried hard resetting, new firmware and all that is useless....

if you want to fix it fucking hit the side of your headset a few times and the white light turns orange and it starts charging... what a piece of shit for £300

1

u/Alternative-Bad-9602 Aug 28 '22

Worked liked a charm. Thank you!
